The music is so loud that it fills the entire floor with an obnoxious booming noise.
"Come on, I want you to meet my boyfriend!" Aria shouts over the sound.
I follow her closely through the packed room of people, and I occasionally cough from the smoke that fills the air.
She leads me to a white door just around the corner of the room. She gestures that I enter first, so I walk in hesitantly.
I immediately take a deep breath, inhaling the clean air that hasn't been polluted by whatever the others are smoking.
"Alex!" Aria shouts, closing the door behind her. She runs up to him as he sits on the bed, each of them embracing one another. "Oh," She says, motioning to me. "This is my roommate, Victoria."
"Nice to meet you." I reach out my hand for him to shake it.
"Victoria Wolfe? As in your father owns this place?" He reaches out and shakes my hand.
"Yeah, everyone seems to know about that besides me." I laugh.
He was about to respond but someone came stumbling into the room, interrupting our conversation.
"Brendan, what the hell?" Aria runs over to make sure he's alright.
"Sorry, I just tripped over some people." He brushes off his jeans before raising his head up to look at me.
He locks his beautiful, green eyes with my mine and I feel as if I'm in a trance.
Neither of us can't seem to look away, until Alex interrupts us.
"Hey Gally, I got a better idea than staring at the poor girl... talk to her!"
He whips out of the trance we put each other in. "Sorry, I'm Brendan." I shake his outreached hand.
"Victoria." I smile as he continues to look at me with his gorgeous eyes.
I haven't felt like this since high school. Sure, it's a small crush, but still...
"Brendan is actually on the hockey team with me." Alex explains. "Of course, he's not as good as I am, but he can dream." He teases Brendan.
"I think I'm a bit better than you, Chucky."
"Not even close!" Alex responds. Aria and I both laugh.
"When do your games start?" I ask.
"October." Brendan says.
"You should come, Victoria! They're so much fun." Aria smiles while hugging Alex from behind.
"Oh, no, that's alright. I was just asking." I refuse.
"Why not?" Alex asks.
"I don't know..." I try to think of an excuse quickly. "I don't really know anything about hockey." I lie.
I can't like Brendan. I just can't.
It'll prove my father right that I'm incapable of focusing on my school work without getting distracted, and trust me, Brendan is the perfect distraction.
It's really strange that I'm feeling such strong feelings this quick. I'm not one to move into a relationship right away, I mean, I've only had one other boyfriend in my life who turned out to be a total jerk.
"I'll teach you." Brendan offers. "I'll have you speaking with hockey terminology in no time." He smiles.
"No, it's fine... You have to get ready for the season with training and all, so I wouldn't want to bother you."
"It's not a bother at all, come on...
Have a little fun." He winks at me. "Why don't I take you down on the real ice and teach you there instead?"
"No, no. It's-"
"Alright, great." He pauses. "Meet me at the rink tomorrow at 10." He slowly walks out of the room, nodding a goodbye to Alex and Aria before giving me one last glance before he disappears into the crowd of people.
"He totally likes you!" Aria gushes as soon as the door shuts.
"No, he doesn't." I flush a deep red color.
"And you like him back, don't you?" She asks me excitedly.
"I don't know..." I answer uncomfortably.
If I tell her the truth, Alex will definitely tell Brendan and that will just ruin everything. I need to stay focused.
Of course I'll spend time with Brendan, as long as he wants to spend time with me, and it won't go any farther than that. Just a simple, friendly relationship.
A little time after, I decide to leave the party and walk back to my dorm room. I get ready for bed and slowly fall asleep.
"Alex, stop!" I hear Aria giggle as the light turns on, illuminating the entire room.
I sit up and squint my eyes at them.
"What the hell?" I yell.
I glance at the clock and it's nearly three a.m.
"Sorry, Victoria!" Aria yells, both of them clearly wasted.
They turn off the light and both lay down on her bed, still giggling.
I sigh and close my eyes, hoping to fall back asleep. Their whispers are nothing but quiet, so I decide to take a walk around the campus.
I put on a jacket and flip-flops and walk down the stairs into the outdoor campus area.
I walk towards the fountain in the middle of the square and sit down on a bench.
"Long time, no see." I hear someone say.
I turn my head and see Brendan sitting on a bench just a few feet away.
"Oh, hey." I look at him. "What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing." I smile and stand up, going to sit down next to him.
"Well, I fell asleep but was rudely awakened by Alex and Aria stumbling into my room. I doubt that I'll get any more sleep tonight."
He laughs, "Yeah, he always stays in her dorm with her. Always expect it from them." He explains.
"Your turn." I smirk.
"You can't laugh at me, alright?" He begins, giggling softly.
"Okay..."
"Okay, so... I can't sleep when someone else isn't in the room with me."
I laugh, but then cover my mouth with my hand. "Aw," I think to myself how sweet he is. "I'm sorry." I pause. "How do you sleep in the summer, then?"
"I have an apartment, so I can sleep there fine, but only because it's home." He explains. "But since Alex is staying with Aria, I can't sleep."
"I'm sorry." I say.
"It's alright, I'm used to it." My heart breaks for him. His eyes light up, "I have an idea. Since you can't sleep with them in your room, why don't you just crash at mine? You can use Alex's bed, so this way we can both get some sleep."
"Are we allowed to do that?" I say, referencing to the different floors for men and women.
"I won't tell if you won't." He smiles.
I hesitate at first, but then nod my head and agree to a full night of sleep. He takes my hand and leads me back into the building, up to his dorm.
