It begins to pour on the streets of Manhattan as I watch the cars drive down the street. The smell of coffee beans fill my nose as well as the sound of small talk filling my ears.

I sit in the local coffee shop gathering my thoughts. Tomorrow is my first day at NYU, so I'm pretty nervous.

Today is the assigned day to receive our dorm room information and to officially move in for the year. I'll meet my roommate and everyone else on the floor as soon as I gain the courage to hop in my car and drive there.

I had really hoped to be attending orientation at Harvard or Yale or someplace else, but my father insisted that I attend NYU. I'm not sure why, but he's making me go.

I know that I'm old enough to make my own decisions, but it would just be plain wrong to go against my father's choices for my college life.

Ever since my mother died, he has been so lonely. I would feel terrible if I went against his wishes. I'm the only family he has left.

It's hard to feel like he loves me sometimes cause all he seems to care about is his company. After my mother passed away, that's all he pays attention to.

Once the rain stops, I finally muster up the courage to move into my dorm. I make a quick stop at home to pick up my packed things and drive over to campus.

As I walk through the courtyards and down the hallways, I begin to worry about my roommate.

What if she's completely insane? A total freak? An insomniac?

I check in at the front desk and receive my room key and dorm room number.

When I reach the door, I take a deep breath and place my hand on the door knob. I open the door slowly to see half the room covered in posters, most of them punk bands in which I've never heard of before.

I stand in amazement, looking over the posters that practically paint the wall black. My eyes drag from one picture to the next until they reach a young girl, almost a spitting image of the women band-members on the posters.

"You must be..." I look at the paper that the receptionist handed me when I checked in. "Aria?" I look up to see her smirk at me.

"Yeah, that's me." She looks me up and down. "You must be Victoria."

I nod my head and place my suitcase on my bed, starting to unpack my things.

"So..." She sits down on her bed, directly across from mine. "Do you get like free tuition or something now?"

"What?" I ask, turning my head to look at her. "Why would I get free tuition? I'm not that smart, you know." I laugh a little at her assumption.

"You're Victoria Wolfe, right?"

"Yes..." I tell her.

"Yeah, your father just bought NYU. Don't you get to go to school free, then?"

"My father did what?"

Of course my father bought the college that I'm attending! This was his plan all along.

"You didn't know?" She asks, pure shock on her face.

"No, I actually didn't." I sigh and shake my head in disbelief. "I'm actually going to call him right now." I grab my cell phone and walk towards the door.

"Hey, ask if he can pay my tuition too!" Aria shouts.

I step outside, closing the door behind me. The phone begins to ring as I wait for my father to answer the phone.

"Hello?" He answers.

"Would you like to fill me in on your most recent purchase?" I ask sarcastically.

"I knew this is what your call would be about." He sighs and I hear shuffling in the background.

"So... What? Did it not cross your mind to inform me that you purchased the college I'm attending?" I scream into the phone.

"I only bought NYU to make sure if you made a mistake with your studies then it wouldn't be that big of a deal to overturn." He explains.

"Made a mistake? Seriously?" I sigh. "Dad, you can't just purchase every building that I step into, you know."

"I know, but I also know that you seem to become distracted with things that lead you away from your schoolwork."

"Distracted? By what?" I ask.

"Boys."

I roll my eyes. "Boys? Dad, I haven't even had a boyfriend since the middle of High School. It sure won't happen now." I assure him.

"Whatever you say." He says, unconvinced. I mumble a goodbye and hang up the phone.

I walk back into my room to see Aria still seated on her bed, wide-eyed.

"Some father you got yourself there."

"Yeah, he's a real piece of work sometimes." I lay down on my bed and stare up at the ceiling.

"So anyways, my boyfriend, Alex, is throwing this huge party tonight."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah, you should come." She stands and walks into the bathroom. "It's a great way to meet new people... and maybe even a cute guy." She looks at me. "Yeah, I heard about your love life situation." She smirks.

"I don't know..." I pause. "I think I'll just stay in for tonight."

"Wow..." She steps out of the bathroom with an entire new outfit. "Your dad controls you in ways that you don't even realize." I sit up from her words.

My father does not control me.

"On second thought, count me in."
