Chapter Two: Aftermath
Jughead's POV
"Betty...Betty...Betty!" I yelled as we pulled into the hospital parking lot. She had fallen unconscious from the pain. I rushed through the doors of the emergency room, holding onto the love of my life for with my life. The patient waiting line was around the block, I didn't have time to wait. Betty, by the looks of how much blood she already had lost, didn't have much time at all. I pushed through everyone to get to the front and once the nurses saw her, she was taken in immediately.
Hours...hours passed by. All the Serpents showed up to support me. That's when I realized I hadn't called Archie or Veronica yet to tell them the news. I called them and they flew over. I stared down at my bloody hands. Her blood...my Betty's blood was all over them. While Archie went on a rant interrogating me about what happened to his best friend, almost in a way trying to pin this on me. I won't lie I agreed with him. This was my fault. That was all I could focus on as I tuned him out. Even though I knew Betty wouldn't see it that way. This was all my fault...I was late and Betty was home alone. What kind of boyfriend does that? That was one sentence I actually agreed with Archie about. Around 11 pm after Betty's mom had shown up, she demanded I'd go see her first. She explained that even though Betty wasn't awake yet, she knew I'd be the first person her daughter would want to see when she opened her eyes.
"You saved my daughter's life Jughead, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank all the Serpents for me as well." She said as she walked over to the nurse's station to go fill out paperwork.
Coming from Mrs. Cooper that was the ultimate compliment and all I needed and wanted to hear at that exact moment. My girl was going to be okay. That was enough for me not to care about myself right now. It was all about her for now on. I sprinted through the double doors to her room. I walked in and saw her lying there, looking so helpless and broken. It killed me to see her in this condition. I pulled a chair up next to her bed and sat there next to her for hours till she woke up.
"Jug" Betty whispered as she blinked her eyes open for the first time.
"Juliet we have to stop meeting like this. One of these times I might actually drink the poison." I said trying to make her laugh. It made her smile but she was in too much pain to laugh.
"Jug you saved me. " Betty said as she I squeezed her hand.
"Betty you saved yourself you crawled through the South Side, by yourself nearly bleeding out. You are most definitely a Serpent. But I bet you left that part out when you told your mom how I found you." I said to her as I held her hand.
"I..I just knew if I could get to you, you'd be able to save me. That's all she needed to know." Betty said back to me.
"Betty Cooper you amaze me." I said as I kissed her. She smiled at me and motioned for me to get in bed with her.
"Jug, I love you." She said before she fell asleep on my chest.
"I love you too Betty, I'll never stop loving you. Which is why I'm never leaving you alone again. Clearly, even your own home isn't safe right now. We have to get to the bottom of this. Why the hell are you the next sinner?" I asked her but she had already fallen asleep. I mean after the night she just had, she deserved it. The questions could wait until morning. All that mattered right now was that Betty Cooper was going to live to see tomorrow, which was the only reason I would let myself live to see it too.
