Chapter Twenty-Six: "That's Not Your Decision to Make."

Jughead's POV

The second I walked up to Betty's house I knew something was wrong. The front door was cracked open. Before I could investigate the scene further my father called. He told me that the Sheriff had just left our trailer. He came to warn my father that Betty's father had escaped from his cell, found his way back to the Cooper house and took Betty's mom. Of course, he showed up at the very moment Alice was returning from Greendale. He was really only interested in Betty but took Alice to bait her into coming to him. As if that story didn't shake me to my core, running upstairs and finding my girlfriend and Archie alone in a dark room together really pushed me over the edge. When Betty and I arrived back at my trailer, the Serpents were already there surrounding it. Luckily after the Ghoulies burned our trailer town to the ground, we got new ones to replace them. It was like the fire never even happened.

"Where's my father?" I asked as I helped Betty off my bike.

"Right here Jug." He said as he motioned for Betty and me to join the circle. "Alright now that your leader is here. Jughead proceed." He said as he stepped back.

"Betty is a serpent now..." I stuttered. "We protect our own, no matter the cost. Hal won't get in if we don't let him. I suggest we take shifts standing guard over Sunny Side. I want to know everyone who comes in and out of this place." I said.

"Jug..this isn't necessary." Betty started to talk over me.

"Yes, Betty it is. Hal isn't coming here to talk to you, Betty. You have the scar on your side to prove that don't you? He's coming to finish what he started that night." I said in a harsh tone. She stepped back a little as she looked at me.

"Look all of you are important to me, I couldn't live with myself if anything happened to you. You should all go to Thornhill till this is over. Please, I can't have any more blood on my hands." Betty sighed.

"Don't listen to her, I'm your leader and what I say goes." I said looking back at her.

"Oh yeah Jug, well you aren't mine. This relationship is supposed to be equal and you aren't treating me that way anymore. I can take care of myself just fine." Betty yelled back at me in front of the entire group.

"We better go, this is about to get ugly. " Toni whispered to Cheryl a little too loud. All of the Serpents started to disperse at once as Betty and I's fight began to get worse.

"Look what you did! You made them all leave! How am I going to protect you now Betty! Sometimes I swear you don't think! You wanna know what you don't think about Betty! Death and what comes after that! Death doesn't happen to you, Betty! It happens to the thousands of people standing around at your funeral questioning how the hell they are going to go on and live their lives without you in it. How the fuck I'm supposed to go on or Veronica, Kevin, Cheryl, Toni, your mother, Polly and yes Betty even fucking Archie. If something were to happen to you...if I couldn't protect you...if you got hurt...which if you go after him, you probably will. " I stuttered.

"Well, Juggie...that's not your decision to make. " Betty said with tears in her eyes.

"Actually, yeah it is. Go home, Betty. Do whatever you want to do. I'm done chasing you." I said as I walked back into the trailer and slammed the door behind me. What I did that night was basically push her right into Archie's arms and out of mine. Something I will spend the rest of my life apologizing for.
