Chapter Twenty-Five: "Friends Don't"
Betty's POV
After quite an eventful weekend up at Shadow Lake, we headed back to the inferno that was now Riverdale. Archie dropped off Jug and Veronica first at this places. Then he and I headed home. Most of the ride was quiet, Archie looked deep in thought. I knew exactly what he was thinking. It wasn't just a kiss, that was something we had to put behind us though. I didn't feel that way about him anymore. There was no Archie and Betty anymore, too much had happened.
"Betty." Archie finally spoke as he pulled down our block.
"Archie." I smiled at him.
"Can I come over?" He asked.
"Yeah, of course, Arch, no one's home anyway. I wonder where the hell my mom is." I sighed as we got out of his car. I walked up to the front door, with Archie following behind me.
"Wow, it's so quiet." He laughed as we walked upstairs to my room.
"I know it's been weird without my mom yelling." I laughed as I collapsed on my bed. "For as relaxing as that weekend was supposed to be, it definitely wasn't." I sighed as I scrolled through my phone. My mom hadn't called to check on me once, that was starting to worry me.
"Yeah tell me about it...I'm still not over the Vughead kiss..that was a lot. " Archie said as he sat down next to me on the bed.
"I know but we can't blame them, I mean we kissed Archie. And we tried to keep it from them. Well I mean I told Jughead after a while. But you probably would've never told V if it didn't come out." I said to him.
"Yeah it's not exactly something easy to tell your girlfriend, I didn't just kiss a girl...I kissed your best friend. And I think I'm in love with her." Archie blurted out. I was speechless as I stared at him. I had wanted to hear him say that for so long, now...he chose to tell me now. When we were both supposed to be happy with Jug and V. This wasn't right..it wasn't fair to me.
"Archie, I've waited for what seems like forever to have you openly say that to me. " I said as I cupped his face with my hands. We looked into each other's eyes for a moment and I almost lost my train of thought.
"Betty! Betty! Your dad! He broke out of jail! He's got your mom! We have to get you out of here!" Jughead's screaming pulling me out of my trance. He was running up my stairs. Archie jumped up off the bed as my hands started to shake. "Betty!" Jug screamed as he opened my bedroom door. Archie was standing there awkwardly as I sat on my bed.
"He was helping me carry my bags up Jug, what happened to my mom?" I asked again trying to distract from the almost horrific scene my boyfriend could've walked into.
"Uh..your dad broke out of jail...or someone let him out. It happened days ago...the Sheriff's office was covering it up! This has Hiram Lodge's name all over it!" Jug yelled.
"He has my mom?" I asked frantically.
"Yes, he came back to your house looking for you. But we were up at the lake. This was a setup. Archie why don't you ask your girlfriend what fuck her father is doing!" Jug yelled as she wrapped his arms around me. "We have to get you out of here." Jug said grabbing my arm. Archie followed behind us.
"I'll give you a ride to the South Side." Archie said as he unlocked his car.
"I've got the bike, go find Veronica." Jug said as I sighed and got on the back of his motorcycle.
"I'll call as soon as I know whats going on. Stay safe Betty." Archie said as he pulled away. Jug turned to look at me confused. But he shook it off, he realized that right now was not the time for his jealousy to show.
