Chapter Thirty-Eight: " Making My Bones "
Betty's POV
"Huh...what.." I woke up abruptly as I stared up at the white ceiling. My head was pounding, my body was covered in cuts and bruises. I looked down at my leg in a brace. "Fuck..." I winced as I sat up. I probably scared Jughead half to death. It hurt to bend every finger but I was determined to stop Hiram and stop Jughead before he got himself killed. After the nurse's left to inform Jug I was finally awake, I decided to take off. Hiram probably thought I was dead at this point. He should know I'm much stronger than that. I managed to get my tank top over my head and slip my skirt over my legs. This brace was going to be a problem, I decided to snap it to free my leg. At this point, I was all adrenaline so I could barely feel the pain. I got up grabbed my Seperent jacket. Slipped it over my shoulders, fixed my lipstick and padded my stitches on my side. The second I heard someone coming I made a break for the window. Thank god we were on the first floor.
"Where the hell is she?" I could hear Jughead scream as I hid behind a bush.
"I have no idea?" The nurse said confused as Jug looked out the window. He looked down at the frame.
"Fuck" I heard him say as he walked out of the room. I looked down at myself confused.
"Oh no, I'm bleeding. " I said realizing blood had soaked through the gauze pad I had on my side. I decided to make a run for it, but with my leg, it was going to be harder than I thought. I had to work through the pain if I was going to make it to Hiram before Jughead and the rest of the Serpents did. I took off towards the front of the hospital, where Jughead's motorcycle was parked. I jumped on gripped the handlebars and with no helmet, I took off. My leg vibrated with pain as I sped down the road towards the Penbrook. I snuck in through the servant's entrance, the door V usually left open for Archie.
"Veronica....Hermonie...I can't find Veronica!" Hiram yelled as I heard him walk through the front door.
"V's at the hospital waiting to see me, Mr. Lodge." I laughed as he walked into his office. I was playing with a knife on his desk.
"Betty...how...I thought you were..." I cut him off.
"Me too." I sighed as I looked at him. "Mr. Lodge...you underestimate me. " I said as I got up from the chair. "I'm going to give you a warning...the serpents are going to make sure you burn for what you did to me. Your daughter knows too...so much for your perfect family man image. Be careful Mr. Lodge...we're watching. And just like Archie has to make his bones with you to date V....I'm making my bones with this conversation. I'm not scared of you. I'll pacify you...and I won't stop till you leave Riverdale for good. Trust me...I've got the time." I said as I took the glass of scotch his sat down on his desk and took a sip of it.
"Betty you're definitely stronger than I thought. " Hiram said back to me. I laughed as I looked at him.
"You're definitely worse than I ever imagined Mr. Lodge. Stay away from my Serpents and my boyfriend. Riverdale belongs to us...it always has and always will." I said as I looked at him.
"Anything else?" He said as I stuck the knife in his desk.
"Watch you're back....this was your final warning Hiram...back down or else you'll get exactly whats coming. And I promise it's worse than you imaged." I smirked at him as I limped out of his office.
"Betty." He said forcing me to turn around. "Take care of yourself." He said almost as if he meant it like a threat.
"You too. " I said as I walked out of the office to the front door. As I approached the exit of the Penbrook I realized this was far from over. But at least now Hiram knew we were on even playing field and that he didn't have the upper hand on us. I limped out to my boyfriend and the rest of the Serpents ready to storm the apartment in the pouring rain. Jughead looked at me in shock.
"Betty?" He said in disbelief.
"I officially made my bones. " I said back to him as he put his jacket around my shiver shoulders.
"We have to get you off that leg." He said as he bent down so I could put one arm around his neck for support.
"I kind of like the pain...reminds me I've made it this far. " I said as thunder crashed through the sky, the Serpents gave me praise as Jughead looked at me awe. We had a long road ahead of us, but at least Hiram knew we weren't going to surrender anytime soon.
