Chapter 9 (Epilogue)

The doors to the great Hall opened and everyone stared, in awe, of the woman who stood there. She wore a flowing red dress and had hair as black as midnight. Without missing a beat, she walked to the second oldest prince, who was watching her with as much interest (if not more) than the other party attendants.

"It's rude to stare  Jay," Blair said with a grin.

"If it's rude to stare you should be talking to everyone in the hall, not just me," He replied.

Blair turned her head and saw Princess Barbara.

"Jay, Barbara is here, that means Pixie is here too."

When Barbara married Richard amd became a princess, she chose Pixie as one of her ladies in waiting.

Blair looked around the ballroom and saw her best friend standing with the young prince of Gotham.

"I see how it is, you become a lady in waiting, get to live in a castle, and you forget about to say hi to your best friend."

"Blair!" Pixie forced Blair into a customary, bone crushing hug.

"How is being a lady-knight?"

"It's wonderful. Just yesterday I was fighting the Joker's queen who has align herself with other noblewoman. They were planning on attacking Gotham."

"Oh.......fun?"

"Yes, yes it is."

"Pixie," Barbra called out, gesturing for the young girl to come to her.

"Well, I am needed elsewhere. We can talk more later." Pixie smiled at her friend before curtsying towards the Prince and joining Barbara's side.

Blair didn't miss the way Damian stared as Pixie walked away..

"It would really be a shame if Pixie was introduced to Prince Jonathan....he is looking for a girl exactly like her to court." Blair said.

"You wouldn't dare," Damian hissed back.

"We both know I would. This is your wake up call, go be a perfect, Prince Charming and sweep Pixie off her feet."

Damian gave Blair a 'I wished you were killed' glare and walked away, cursing her, under his breath.

"Why do you feel the need to set them up?" Jason asked Blair.

Blair's expression became more serious, "Because they make each other's lives better. That's what love is."

"I make your life better, don't I?"

"No. We are not talking about this here."

"Yes, we are. Blair, I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you-"

"Jason, stop it. I am not marrying you."

"Just tell me why! We've fought together now for over a year, almost two! I want to spend the rest of my life with you."

"Jason, I love you too," Jason's face lit up," but, I also love being a knight. You're right, it's been two years, but there has been so little change. Woman might now be able to join the army, but they don't want to. They still think it's Barbaric and wrong. I'm not going to get married to you and became a pretty, little princess until I know my name won't be remembered as the only woman to join Gotham's army. As much as I love you, I can't give up everything I working for to marry you and become a princess."

Jason's stare became very intense and he left Blair at almost a running speed.

Blair felt guilt form in the bottom of her stomach. She did love Jason and if were any other circumstance she would marry him. She sighed and made her way to the bar, blocking out flirts of men she passed.

Blair sat alone and refused to drink anything bought for her. She just wanted to feel numb instead of feeling pain and heart break.

"Attention everyone!" Music and talking stopped immediately for Prince Jason who was standing in front of the Orchestra. "I have an important announcement, I am in love with Blair Blake!" Jason pointed to Blair and every head turned towards her.

"Oh dear Lord," Blair mumered under her breath.

"I asked Blair to marry me and she said no!" Many of the woman gasped as if someone said Blair burned down an orphanage of puppies. "At first I was hurt, but I realized she was right. Blair has worked unbelievably hard to try and make Gotham's army a place of equality. If Blair married me she would have to give that up to be a princess. Gotham dosn't need another princess, there is enough royalty as it is. What Gotham needs is an ass-kicking knight, who just so happens to be a woman. Because of that I, Jason Peter Todd, renounce my role as Prince of Gotham." Jason lifted his crown off hus head and threw it on the floor. All the party attendants were frozen in pure shock. "And now that you won't have to be a 'pretty little princess,' Blair Blake, will you marry me?"

Blair stood up and walked towards Jason.

"You are one of the most annoying, rude, and careless, men I have ever met, but I'm one of the most blunt, aggravating, and apathetic woman in the world. So yes, I will marry you, you, perfectly insufferable bastard."

Blair grabbed Jason's collar and kissed him passionately.

Everyone in the room who wasn't a bitter noblewoman started cheering for the newly engaged couple.

"Don't worry, you'll always be a Princess to me." Jason said to Blair as they broke apart from their kiss.

"I'm going to hear that until the end of time, arn't I?"

"Yes, yes you are."

Lady Blair rolled her eyes. "Just shut up and kiss me again."

Blair, the first female knight, and Jason, the ex-prince, lived as happily as two people with their tempers and professions could. (Which is a lot better than you might think.)
