3. Highschool

Bea Messina

I groan to myself for my stupidity and walk into the school, despite the girls seemingly glaring holes through my skull.

After looking around curiously, I find the office with a nice lady behind the counter. She handed me my schedule and locker number.

She seemed surprised at my politeness when I waved my goodbye and wished her a good day, guess people around here are assholes.

Looking down at my schedule, my 7 block day read:

1. Home room- Mr. Williamson (room 307)
2. AP Math- Mr. Hamilton(room 704)
3.AP Science- Mr. Richardson (room 406)
4.Gym- Mrs. Princely (gym and fitness centre)
5. Lunch
6.AP English- Mr. Dickson (room 309)
7. Band- Mrs. Potter (Band room)

That's right, I'm smart, I get all the AP classes. I have to keep up the nerd facade to keep the extras away, and it works, mostly.

Sighing to myself, I head to my locker, number 302. I find it quickly and put in the combination, opening it quickly, getting the odd glance from people still trying to figure out who I am.

I chuckle to myself and grab out the book I'll need. I slide them into my galaxy print backpack and close the locker, locking it again.

I take a venture down the halls, in search of room 307 for homeroom.

When I finally find it, the bell rings and students start to buzz and go to their lockers for their things. I step curiously into the class to see a middle aged man sitting behind a desk in the corner. "Ah, you must be our new student, Bea Messina?" He asks pointing his green eyes at me, causing the few people in the class to watch the exchange.

I awkwardly nod and he looks down at his papers again, "Sit anywhere you'd like, we have no seating plan." He says without looking up again. I nod to my self and sit in a vacant desk in the back corner.

As I put my bag around the chair, a girl who is sitting in front of me turns around with a worried expression, "I know your new here, but you can't sit there."

"Why not?" I ask, getting aggravated already with this stupid day.

"That seat belongs to the quarter back. Him and his friends always sit back there, no one dares sit there, there's even rumours their all in a gang together." She answers in a hushed tone.

My face softens and I softly smile, "I'll be fine but thank you for your concern. What's your name?"

"I'm Nicky, and your Bea right? The girl who rides a motorcycle." She says with a small smile.

"Yes I am, I guess word travels fast." She giggles and nods, turning back to the front of the room as more students pour in.

Not paying attention, I look down to my notebook and start scribbling down things I'll need for the house. Noticing the list getting longer and longer, I sigh and think how long it'll take to get it all.

When the second bell rings, I hear people walk in, but I still do not look up but it seems to get significantly quieter. I smirk to myself, knowing what that meant, the quarterback sees I'm sitting in his spot.

Keeping my eyes still pointed down, I can hear his echoed footsteps get closer and closer to me. Everyone in the room is holding their breath in anticipation, even Mr. Williamson.

"You're sitting in my seat little girl." The familiar voice says.

I giggle and look up to Ace, his face seems to hold shock, "Oh Hello Ace, by the way, I'm not that little." I say giggling at his shocked expression. "And before you ask, no you cannot sit here, I am, and I would gladly sit next to you if you take the one next to me." I say, holding back the laughter that threatens to burst out.

I see him smile and shake his head, he sighs and with the small smile dancing across his face, sits in the seat next to me. Behind him stands a smirking Raphael, Weston and Richie, and a emotionless Isaac.

They chuckle and sit down next to him. I smirk and turn my direction to the staring eyes of the other people. "Turn around people, this is school, not a movie theatre." I call out, everyone instantly turns to the front to watch what Mr.Williamson has to say.

Of course, I don't pay attention, I look down at my list and my mind begins to wander, maybe I should get a dog.

I'm brought out of my thoughts about my new pet by a slight nudging in my side by an elbow. Looking to the culprit, I see Ace looking at the sheet where I wrote 'dog? Cat?'.

"What's up?" I whisper making his gaze break off the paper.

"You doing anything for lunch?" He asks at the same volume as me, while the students around us are oblivious that there is a conversation even happening.

I shrug and shake my head. "Sit with us at lunch, I want you to meet some of the guys." I nod and go back to thinking about my pet decisions. "And get a dog, they are more productive and will be a better companion to someone who lives alone." He adds looking back to Mr. Williamson who is telling the class that this year is crucial for our success.

"Well, do you want to come with me after school to go to the pet store and pick one out?" I ask pointing my gaze forwards as well.

"Maybe you should take Weston, he loves puppies, I am not their biggest fan." He whispers while chuckling a bit.

"Alright give me your phone." I whisper in an exasperated tone. He chuckles and unlocks the phone and handing to me.

Adding my number to his contacts, I go into his messages and create a group chat with Weston, Richie, Raphael, Isaac, Ace and myself.

Me: Yo, it's Bea. I need someone to come with me after school to pick out a puppy.
Weston: Oh please take me! I love puppies!
Ace: Told you.
Isaac: Will you guys shut up.
Raphael: Isaac, don't be an asshole.
Isaac: Does anyone learn at school anymore?
Richie: Why would we do that?

I giggle and put my phone down, looking to a smirking Ace. I nudge his side with my elbow and look back to the front, trying to pay attention but the guys kept aggravating Isaac in the group chat. He left at one point, Raphael of course added him again.

***

After a long math and science class with Isaac, Weston and Ace, it was finally time for gym.

I haven't worked out in a couple of days and I haven't found an arena in the area yet. I was hoping for a fight tonight but I guess I'll go out searching for the arena first.

Walking into the girls change room. Many of the girls scowl and I can see one in particular, her eyes and figure make me believe she's queen bee.

"Hey Bitch!" She screeches, stalking her way towards me. Guess I was right. I turn to her and smile politely, waiting for her to continue. "Stay away from Ace. He's mine!" She hisses.

"Don't worry honey, wasn't planning on taking him." I say with a bit of a giggle and opening my gym locker. She stomps away and I shake my head at her brattiness.

Quickly getting changed, I put on a pair of grey sweatpants and a black nike sport bra. All my other schools allowed me to do gym like this, why not this one.

Walking out into the gym, I see a hoard of students crowded around a young man, probably about 5 years older, presumably our teacher. "Today we are going out to the football field. Just passing and running small plays today, and guys only play with guys. We don't need you breaking some girls leg again." He says with a sigh.

"I said I was sorry!" One of the guys in the back yells, everyone chuckles and the teacher shakes his head, leading us out to the field.

"You must be Miss. Messina." The teacher says, falling back behind the group of students to speak to me.

"Yes, I'm Bea." I say shaking his hand.

He nods and continues walking beside me, "Just so you know, we don't play co-ed, just for the reason the guys play too rough." He adds with a bit of a chuckle.

"Actually, if it's alright with you, I'd like to play with them. I'm used to playing with only guys so I might actually hurt one of the girls." I say, trying to persuade him to let me play real football.

At most of my other schools, I was on the team. Every time, although they wanted me as starting quarterback, I always took the position of understudy so I actually wouldn't play that much.

"I don't see why not, just don't get hurt." He says with a pleading tone. I nod and run up to the hoard of guys. I quickly realize Ace and the others talking to a few guys.

Smirking I walk next to them and listen to the game plan, "Wait what are you doing here?" He asks, noticing me listening in. Many of the other guys smirk and send a wink my way.

"Girls are over there." He says pointing to where the girls are passing a ball.

"Ok, one thing to know about me, I don't take instructions well. Also, I've played football at every school I've been at. I'll even prove it, you be on one team and I'll be the quarterback of the other and we'll see who wins." He smirks and nods.

"I'll even let you pick first." I add smirking looking over the burly men ready to play football.

"Raphael." He says quickly.

"Isaac." I say smiling.

"Weston."

"Richie."

"Luke." A tall, very built, blonde boy winks and walks over to Ace.

I listen to Isaac as he whispers the next name I should say. "Noah." I say questionably, moments later, a brunette boy with fiery eyes walks to our hoard.

"Malcom."

"Xander."

It went on like this till we both had our teams built with 11 people each. As we all get in huddle, they all lean in closely, waiting to hear what I have to say. "Alright guys, this is what we're gonna do."
