Chapter 7
Douglas Coleman's POV.
"Babe, I'm going on a walk. Are you coming with me?" I ask my wife, crossing paths with her.
She shakes her head, rubbing her hip.
"After what we did last night? No walking. Only sitting. Movies. Junk food and vibes" she tells me.
I laugh at her.
"Gimme a kiss before you go." She says, walking up to me and looking up.
I lean down and kiss her gently.
She gives me a little bite and I pull away, surprised.
She looks at my lips. Then my entire body.
From head to toe.
Slowly.
Relax, Douglas.
You're not ready for no children just yet.
She smiles, then puts her hands in my pockets.
"Can I order some takeout? I'm hungry. Get me some snacks too please?" She asks politely.
"More?" I ask, holding her close to me.
"Mhm. I'm really hungry again." She says with a shrug, before pulling away.
"Alright baby. I can do that. Also, you don't need to ask. We can eat what you like. My card is in the office. You can use it" I say, putting on my shoes.
"M'kay. Thank you" she says.
I leave the house and I start to silently panic as I walk.
Is my wife pregnant?!
If she is, are we ready?
Does she even want to keep them?
We've spoken about the concept before, and she says that giving up a child is an 'absolute no'.
But she may change her mind, once she sees the reality.
Me?
I would be ecstatic!
But it's not just about me.
I ditch my walking route and I immediately start to trek to the corner store.
I buy the most expensive pregnancy test that has the most instructions on it and I load the basket with snacks.
We're gonna need them.
I approach the counter.
The man standing there looks up as I approach.
"Good evening, sir, can I help you?" He asks smoothly.
I smile politely.
"Yeah, I'd like to check these items out, I say, starting to offload the snacks.
Just as I put down the first item, his hand purposely brushes mine.
I jolt away, and I look up to make direct eye contact with him.
I'm several inches taller than him.
And a lot bigger than him.
He gives me a flirty smile that makes my heart drop to my ass, replicating a heavy shit.
Or the feeling you get when your mother catches you lacking in public.
"Er... I- -"
How do I handle this?
How does Temah handle this?
I raise my left hand and tap my banded ring finger.
That is not what your wife does, you pleb!
But to be fair, your wife flirts back, knowing you'll kill her...
You're not ya wife!
He puts his hand over mine, leaning in.
"So?" He asks.
I snatch it away.
"Ah I don't think you're getting it it" I say.
I pick up the pregnancy test and drop it on the table.
"I'm married. To a woman." I say.
His eyes widen a little bit.
Then he shrugs, checking and packing away my items.
He tells me the price and I pay without hesitation.
"See you around" the cashier says.
I look away, with a short 'thank you', and then I leave.

"You should have given him my number! We could have gone shopping!" Temah chastised, eating her food.
"Baby, I'm not as confident as you, with other people." I tell her.
She pouts and wipes some of the sauce on my lip.
"I bought you a pregnancy test" I tell her.
She stares at me.
"What, am I getting fat?" She asks.
I laugh at her.
"No, but even if you were, I'd like it." I respond.
She shrugs and motions for me to help her get off the couch.
I pick her up and I carry her to one of our bathrooms.
"You don't have to do that, just yet you know. We don't know if we're pregnant yet" she says.
I shrug.
"Practice" I insist.
She holds my neck and chuckles, snuggling into my neck.
I set her down and give her the test.
"I'll wait outside. Tell me and I'll come right back in. Okay?" I ask.
She nods.
I give her some privacy to pee and I wait.
I'm nervous.
^^^
Temah Coleman's POV.
"What are we going to do?" I ask my husband.
He takes the third test out of my hands and reads it again.
"Well we're gonna be fantastic parents, that's what?" Douglas says.
We are currently sat on the bathroom floor, next to each other with a bunch of pee sticks next to us.
"Cor" he says under his breath.
I smile at him.
"We are so not ready for this" I chuckle, tears forming in my eyes.
He looks at me and smiles back, his eyes already shining.
"Name one person that was ready to be a parent" he says, pulling me into his lap.
"You're gonna be a dad" I sob.
"The best I can be" he responds, his tears falling onto my cheeks.
"What about work?" I ask, panicking a little bit.
"I'm your husband. Leave that to me. Okay?" He says.
I nod.
He chuckles.
"If my first child doesn't look like me, I'm suing" he jokes.
"Get a lawyer then." I respond and he hugs me tighter, laughing.
He's right.
We're not ready.
But who ever is ready?
