Chapter 6
Temah Coleman's POV.
"Jayla it's been 10 minutes" I chuckle.
She glares at me.
"Bitch you're lucky I'm only a little bit hungry!" She pouts at me.
"I know you're just in a bad mood, 'cause you miss Luis and his di- -" I start, but Jayla talks over me, calling for a waitress.
She slowly gets redder and I know that I'm right.
We grab our orders, paying and leaving the cafe and she changes the subject swiftly to Marisa, walking and talking.
The woman who crashed in on Me and Douglas' wedding.
Jayla hands me a file and I open it.
It's a list of medical results, issued and simplified by a: Doctor Violet. K. Ankamah (Miller).
Pregnancy: Nil
Alcohol: 0.10g (per decilitre)
Marijuana intake: Low/ Medium.
Cocain intake: Nil
Opium intake: Medium/ High
Other: N/A
I read the file over and over again and then I look at Jayla, who's face is grim.
"I don't even want to ask, but how is she doing?" I ask.
Opium is a serious drug!
It has so many messed up side affects that I can't help but ask.
Jayla shrugs, eating without a care in the world.
"If she hadn't crashed my best friends wedding I'd care. I've left her with Tatiyana and Violet to get cleaned up. She's none of my concern anymore." She says, opening a cigarette box and plucking it out, lighting it.
I take it out her fingers and I drop it, stepping on it.
"What did I tell you?!" I ask.
She pouts like a kid.
"No smoking. It's bad for my lungs and it has bad chemical reactions" she sighs, repeating what me and our friend, Lydia must have said a thousand times before.
"Plus Luis would kill us both" I say, holding my head.
She chuckles nodding.
"After looking at the results, I'm going to assume that she was hallucinating heavy" I sigh.
Jayla nods and finishes her coffee.
"Almost the whole ride home, she was muttering about having something stolen from her. Looking for her keys or some shit like that" Jayla scoffs.
"Keys?" I ask skeptically.
I'll have to ask Douglas.
"Need a ride?" Jayla asks, as we stop at her car.
Just as she does, I see a familiar Mercedes pull up.
The window rolls down to reveal Douglas, who looks surprised, but happy to see me.
"Nah I'm good" I tell Jayla with a grin.
We hug quickly and I make my way to my husband.
I sit in the car and we share a kiss before he starts to drive.
"I thought you were gonna be out with Jayla for the day, so I was gonna get some food" Douglas says, putting his hand on my thigh, squeezing.
"We finished earlier than expected. She filled me in on Marisa" I tell him, tapping the Manila-buff file.
He rubs my thigh comfortingly.
"What did we find?" He asks gently.
I sigh.
"She was cross faded and hallucinating heavy." I explain.
Douglas scowls.
"You're silent" I say, stating the obvious.
"I don't call women out of their names." He says with a strained grin.
I rub his jaw gently and he takes my hand, kissing it.
We get home and I explain it to him some more.
I get ready to shower, like I always do, and he follows me so we can talk.
He sits at the end of the bath tub, while I undress to get into the shower, opposite him.
"Do you know anything about a key?" I ask him.
His brow furrows as he thinks back.
"Nothing specific... apart from when we were going to move in she mentioned wanting a spare key" Douglas says to me.
I look at him as I turn on the shower.
"Y-you didn't give her one did you?" I ask.
He shakes his head confidently.
"No, I didn't. But after our wedding, I figured that she was unstable, so I changed the locks anyway. Your new key is in our bedroom" he says proudly.
"Thank you baby" I say softly.
He looks me in the eye.
"Are you gonna sit there all night, or are you going to join me?" I ask.
He grabs his shirt from the back, pulling it over his head, before unbuckling his pants.
"I'll be gentle. I promise" he lies.
***
"Mrs Coleman. The new report as written by the Economy and Business column." Eni says to me.
"I thought it appropriate to compile a list of your weekly articles, meetings and events. Here is your coffee. Please drink it so that you're wide awake for the next meeting" Sung-Ho says, putting down the coffee and getting ready to read.
I thank him for the coffee and Eni stands behind him as he reads.
As she walks past him, his eyes trail down her figure and she smirks at him.
I try to hide a smile as I sip my coffee.
"Focus, Mr Choi. Miss Theodore" I say softly.
Sung-Ho turns slightly red and Eni grins at me softly.
He continues reading and I'm listening, but my mind goes back to the night I took them out for drinks.
They were almost like embarrassed teenagers!
^^^
Sung-Ho Choi's POV.
"Do you fancy Miss Theodore?" My new boss, Mrs Coleman asks, looking straight into my eyes.
I nearly choke on my food as she fires the blunt question.
I've looked up to Temah Coleman for a long time.
Since she was Temah Amoah in fact.
Everyone who is anyone knows that she's worked hard for anything she owns in this life.
My parents were pushing me to shadow her for a long time, but I only got the guts to do it now.
When she got married to Mr D. Coleman, one of the richest men in New York, my mother was almost heartbroken, which made me laugh.
She wanted at least one of her sons to marry her, even though between me and my older brother, I wasn't too interested in marrying a woman older than me and my brother thought my mom was joking.
But if there is one thing I've learnt in the past half an hour of knowing her, it's clear that she's extremely blunt.
Eni, my new colleague, has excused herself to the women's room, and Mrs Coleman has used this as the gateway for questions.
"I- She's very attractive, Mrs Coleman. She's beautiful." I admit, making her smile.
"Excuse my forwardness, but I just wanted to see what exactly I'm working with. Furthermore when we're not in the work place, Temah is just fine." She states warmly.
I nod in agreement.
"Are you going to nip it in the bud?" I ask curiously.
She shakes her head no.
"As you will know, this company is how I met my husband of 5 months. I won't stop you if there is an attraction" she says.
I breath out.
Am I relieved?
"However" she starts.
She has my attention.
"I'm not paying you to gallivant. I'm paying you to assist me. So if my work isn't up to standard, because you and Miss Theodore's feelings have gone left or because you're too immersed in each other, I'll replace you both. Without question." She says.
I nod in agreement.
"Understood" I respond.
"And just because you're a man, doesn't mean you can't ask me for help. I'm aware that most men are conditioned to take care of things in a 'masculine' way. But your mental health is important. Talk to me. I'm here" she says.
My jaw almost drops.
I've never met a boss that...
Cares.
"Thank you... Temah" I say to her.
She nods.
"I'll have a similar talk with Miss Theodore, so some time after she's come back, please excuse yourself for about 10 minutes" she says with a grin.
I smile back sheepishly, and just as I do, Eni comes back, sitting next to me.
Temah gives me a subtle glance.
I look at Eni.
"Miss Theodore. I'm getting some more drinks from the bar. Would you like anything?" I ask softly and politely.
She leans in a little bit to hear me better.
So I speak into her ear, repeating the question.
I can almost feel her pulse as she tries to stay calm.
"Yeah. Please. The same as before" she says, tapping her glass.
I nod, pulling away first.
She looks away first, blushing.
This is gonna be interesting.
