Love Hurts

Clutching her beloved teddy bear tightly in her arms young Chloe glanced up at the many adults that towered above her as they casually conversed with one another laughing and occasionally cracking crude and perverted jokes among themselves quite oblivious to the tiny body that silently observed them.

Stealing a glance at her parents a sudden wave of abandonment washed over her tiny body as a symbolic distance grew wider and wider between her and her parents. Being the child of two wealthy and very busy business tycoons did come with it's downsides. Such as the many nights spent alone with no one to comfort her while the storms raged or with no one to read her a bed time story or give her a gentle kiss and a warm hug goodnight. Affection was not a term closely associated with Chloe's upbringing and it was that very term she so desperately craved. The loving warmth of a mother and the tender protection of a father.

The only constant that Chloe knew came in the form of a crudely made stuffed teddy bear whom she affectionately referred to as Mr. Bear. Mr. Bear had been a gift bestowed to her by a family friend in honor of her introduction into the world and ever since the two's union they've never been split apart. Not even for a second. Wherever young Chloe ventured Mr. Bear was towed right along.

To Chloe, Mr. Bear was the only constant she'd ever known. A constant protector, a constant friend, a constant presence. One Chloe was sure would never depart from her side.

Slowly making her way toward her parents, Mr. Bear firmly in her hands, the little girl shyly pulled at the sleeve of her father who frowned as he looked around in question before settling his sharp grey eyes on his little daughter.

"Chloe dear what is it? Daddy is very busy and it's not proper for a young lady to interrupt adults when they're talking," Her father said sternly yet gently enough to let the child know he held no ill feelings toward her slight blunder.

"I'm sorry daddy, it's just...I'm sleepy. Will we be here for much longer?" Young Chloe asked forcing a yawn.

"Tired pumpkin?" Her mother pacified. "It is pretty late for a nine year old to still be out at this hour," Her mother said to her father. A small pulse of hope overcame young Chloe. Perhaps maybe she'd be able to coax her parents into retiring from the party early and head home together.

"I agree, I'll call Martha to come and get her," Her father said. Just like that all of little Chloe's hopes were shattered.

"But papa, mama. I don't want to go with Martha I want to go with you," Little Chloe whined as tears stung her eyes. Should she have to resort to an embarrassing tantrum so be it.

"Sweety we're very busy at the moment but Martha will keep you company tonight ok? Have her to read you one of your favorite stories or something," Her mother said before bending level with the young child and giving her a small kiss. "Now be a good girl and get lots of rest," Her mother instructed.

"But mommy," Chloe began to whine.

"Chloe you mind your mother," Her father said placing his phone back inside his pocket. Chloe's bottom lip began to tremble but she silenced her futile protests altogether.

"I just...wanted us to be together," Chloe whispered but her faint voice went unheard as a boisterous voice drowned out hers as a brightly colored, rather ecentric man came sauntering over quickly placing her father in a lighthearted headlock.

"Rodger you old coot, where have you been stowing away to?" Her father asked laughing along now with the brightly clad man.

"Oh you know, running from the law and my ex wife, the usual," The man joked.

All three adults quickly forgot about the small presence behind them as they began chatting away leaving the small girl to look on in misery and abandonment. But a small spark of determination stirred within the girl as she made a move to touch her mothers hand to gather her attention when a firm hand clasped onto her shoulder haulting her. Startled the little girl whirled around looking up to see just who the person was who had surprised her. It was Martha.

"Ready to go dear?" Martha asked smiling down at the young girl. Chloe clutched Mr. Bear firmly to her chest as Martha ushered her away toward the door. Chloe spared one final glance at her parents who hadn't even noticed that she was about to depart the party. A part of little Chloe even wondered if they'd even cared.

"Girl I'm telling you, I been working here for eight months now and this crib is dope as hell," Martha chirped into the phone.

"Ahah I know, I kid you not rich people are so ditzy. All I did was told them my name was Martha and they hired me on the spot." Chloe could hear as a muffled voice was responding on the other line. "Nope, not even a drug test. I'm like how dumb are you not to even do a background check on a woman who's going to be babysitting your kid dude," Martha spat in disdain.

While Martha busied herself in her usual gossip on the phone Chloe shyly held Mr. Bear in one arm and a childrens book in the other as Martha pranced back in forth in front of her bed seemingly immersed in her conversation on the phone.

"Excuse me miss Laquoia?" Chloe asked timidly. Martha's eyes cut to Chloe before she glances at the phone.

"Hold on girl. What?" Martha responded sharply.

"I was wondering if you'd like to read this book to me?" Chloe offered shyly. With a huff Martha rolled her eyes.

"No I would NOT like to read no damn kiddy book to you. Read it your damn self since you're so bloody smart. And what did I tell you about using my real name child. You refer to me as Miss Martha or don't address me at all," Martha snapped.

"B-but my mommy said that...she said that you wouldn't mind," Chloe said.

"Well you know what? You can take that book and shove it up your mommies ass because I don't give a damn about you, that book or your fucking mommy ok?" Martha barked causing Chloe to flinch. With the roll of her eyes Martha resumed her telephone conversation.

"Girl I'm telling you these rich folks will work your last nerve. They got this damn girl over here spoiled as hell. Bad enough I got to wipe her parents ass but I got to cater to the brat too? Nah, they don't pay me enough for that," Martha said into the phone.

The voice on the other end was loudly saying something.

"Girl them folks don't give a damn bout that girl. They'll throw her on me in a heartbeat and I'm like look I ain't have the brat. She ain't come out of my vagina so why do I have to watch her like she's mine. I'm the maid not the nanny. I cook and clean boo boo nothing else," Martha said.

Chloe held Mr. Bear close as tears fell down her cheeks. Martha's words stung like salt in a wound. Chloe had thought she'd grown accustomed to miss Martha's verbal abuse but tonight the pain of her words cut her on a deeper level than she had thought possible. To hear that her parents didn't care about her hurt her more than anything. Even though deep down she was always aware of this.

Once Martha had departed from her room Chloe broke down in tears. Not the tears she had cried every night, no these tears bore bitterness and sorrow a nine year old child should have never felt. These were the tears of a young girl who's spirits died along with her will.

"Please...P-please..." Chloe begged between her heartbreaking sobs.

"Yes?" Came a foreign voice. Startled terribly Chloe's head whipped up and around as she desperately sought the owner of such a voice.

Leaning against her dresser was a beautiful woman, with bright gold eyes and long black hair. Oddly enough her skin was the same shade of brown as Martha's only much more smoother and softer looking. Adorned in a knee high black ruffled dress, the mysterious beauty seemed to almost glow in the moonlight.

"W-who are you?" Chloe asked a bit fearful of the woman who just up and mysteriously appeared in her bedroom. The woman simply spared the young girl a kind smile as she slowly approached her.

"Fear not young one, I mean you no harm. However it is the song of your tears that has summoned me," The woman said as she gently wiped away a streaming tear from Chloe's cheek. Unsure of herself or the woman Chloe remained silent.

"You are but a young soul, such a pity. Your spirit is slowly crumbling away when it should be flourishing. Tell me, what is it that you plead?" The woman asked.

"I..." Chloe trailed off suddenly feeling extremely self conscious before the woman. But the woman only gazed at her patiently awaiting her reply.

"I just want attention...from my mommy and daddy. N-no I want more than that...I want...love," Chloe finally admitted.

"Love?" The woman asked for assurance.

"I just want someone who will love me, be by my side. Someone to play with and talk to and read stories with," Chloe explained.

"Then shall I grant you your most desired wish?" The woman asked. Chloes entire body perked up upon hearing the woman's words.

"You can grant me my wish, like a genie?" Chloe asked in utter amazement. The woman slowly nodded.

"Yes. But with this wish comes a great cost," The woman warned.

"My mommy and daddy have loads of money. Just name your price and they'll pay it," Chloe chirped somewhat prideful of this small fact. The woman chuckled.

"Man's currency will do you no good here I'm afraid. The cost is not something money can cover. No, for you see the cost comes not at the expense of money but rather at the wishers expense. Tell me, just what is it that you're willing to lose in order to gain your wish little Chloe?" The woman asked addressing the young girl directly.

Chloe swallowed hard as she gazed up at the mysterious woman. A part of young Chloe's mind could not comprehend just what the woman wanted from her but the other part of Chloe knew that whatever words came out of her mouth next would be the most important decision of her life.

"I'm willing to give up everything in exchange for my wish," Chloe declared with finality. A slow smirk creeped across the woman's lips.

"Very well. Never forget the words you have uttered this day, upon this very hour. So let it be," The woman said as her eyes began to glow. Just as quickly as they lit up her eyes had died down back to it's normal shade.

"What did you do?" Chloe asked looking around her room bewildered. Just as soon as she uttered the question something within her grasp began to squirm. In absolute shock Chloe recoiled as Mr. Bear came to life right before her eyes right in her very arms.

"I..I..I don't believe this. Mr. Bear is moving!" Chloe exclaimed as she watched it squirm with wide eyes filled with fascination and amazement.

Responding to Chloe's voice Mr. Bear glanced up abruptly. His plastic beady eyes settled on Chloe's face.

"Chlo...e," The bear muttered in it's broken english.

"He said Chloe!" Chloe exclaimed in teary happiness as she hugged Mr. Bear tightly.

"I..Love...Chlo..e," Mr. Bear spoke. Chloe squealed in delight upon hearing this.

"I love Mr. Bear too," Chloe was all too happy to return the gesture.

"Mr. Bear will fulfill the wish you've come to desire most. Mr. Bear will love you unconditionally, he will follow you and protect you without fail, and he will never betray or abandon you," The woman explained. All that the woman spoke was highly appealing to Chloe's young ears.

"However..." The woman said in a much more ominous tone gathering Chloe's attention. "In exchange you must without fail return this gesture with equal or greater love. You must love Mr. Bear always and never neglect him. Do this, and maybe, just maybe you shall find your happy ending," The woman said. With that, the woman turned and began to leave.

"Wait...please wait!" Chloe shouted after her. Without turning the woman ceased movement awaiting Chloe's reply. "You never told me your name. Please, may I know it?" Chloe asked.

A faint smile dusted the woman's lips.

"Many names I have but a name I have not. What would you like to call me young lady?" The woman asked. Chloe's excitement rose to a new height.

"Me? I can really...oh wow this is incredible. Okay lets see...hm. Well, you're very nice, and beautiful. And you grant wishes...like a genie! I think I'll call you Genie Lady," Chloe piped seemingly proud of her naming skills. The woman spared a quiet chuckle.

"Then let it be so," The woman said before vanishing. Chloe stared after the woman who now was no longer anywhere to be seen.

"Thank you Genie Lady," Chloe whispered as she continued to hug Mr. Bear tightly.

The next few weeks come as a blur as Chloe slowly began teaching Mr. Bear how to read and how to speak and prounounce words correctly. Over the course of Mr. Bears newfound existence Chloe quickly learned what Mr. Bear liked and disliked. His tastes depended solely on Chloe herself. Whatever Chloe liked Mr. Bear liked and whatever Chloe disapproved of Mr. Bear did also.

Chloe and Mr. Bear were currently in Chloe's room immersed in a small conversation before Chloe's parents entered the room.

"Hey honey. Who were you talking to?" Her mother asked.

"Just Mr. Bear," Chloe said.

"Oh how lovely. Hi Mr. Bear," Her mother pacfied not expecting a response from the stuffed childrens toy. "Well sweety pie your father has already left and I'm going to follow suit shortly. Martha is already here so you won't be lonely. I know with Martha around you'll be in good hands," Her mother smiled before giving her a kiss on the head and leaving.

Chloe had wished she could tell her parents the truth about Martha but being the timid nine year old that she was she found herself afraid to tell on Martha. So she kept silent.

"Oh," Chloe grunted when her stomach began growling. "Guess it is time for breakfast," Chloe said as she along with Mr. Bear ventured out of her room and down towards the kitchen. A thick smoke could be seen coming from the kitchen as Chloe entered.

"Oh no," Chloe bemoaned praying Martha wasn't in the kitchen cooking. It was no secret that Martha was a terrible cook.

"Ah shit," Martha cursed accidentally burning her finger on the skillet.

"Good morning Miss Martha," Chloe said politely. Still nursing her stinging thumb Martha motioned for the little girl to take a seat. Doing so Chloe placed Mr. Bear in a seat right next to her. Martha harshly slams a plate full of charred pancakes in front of her.

"Bon appetite," Martha said before throwing the rest of the dishes in the sink to be washed. Chloe couldn't hide her disgust at the overly cooked food. Agitation arose in Martha once she saw that Chloe was shooting the food she had prepared a look full of disdain.

"Eat it," Martha barked.

"Um..." Chloe mumbled looking dejectedly at the plate. Becoming angry Martha storms over to the other side of the counter and glares directly in Chloe's eyes.

"Lil girl did you not hear what I just said?" Martha asked.

"Yes ma'am I did it's just...." Chloe trailed off suddenly feeling afraid.

"Just nothing you're going to eat this shit. There are children starving in Africa who would love to have what your spoiled rotten ass is throwing away," Martha hissed.

"I'm sorry," Chloe apologized.

"Stop talking and just eat it," Martha ordered. Martha watched as Chloe eyed her stuffed toy for a brief minute before Chloe abruptly pushed the plate away. Martha's eyes went wide with disbelief at the blatant act of disrespect.

"I beg you're pardon?" Martha asked looking from the plate to Chloe.

"Mr. Bear says he wouldn't feed this garbage to a dog. He also said that if you want it eaten so badly you should eat it," Chloe repeated.

"What the fuck did you just say to me?" Martha bellowed causing Chloe to flinch.

"I didn't say it honest. Mr. Bear did," Chloe pointed down at the motionless bear. Martha's furious gaze cut to the bear before she snatched the stuffed toy up by the head. Chloe gasped as she hopped down from her chair and tried to rescue her toy.

"Please Martha you're hurting him," Young Chloe cried.

"Well it serves the little smart mouthed bastard right, wouldn't you say?" Martha teased as she held the toy out of Chloe's reach.

"Please don't hurt Mr. Bear Martha," Chloe pleaded.

"No can do. Smart mouthed bears deserve to be punished," Martha crowed as she fetched a pair of scissors from the drawer and held it near the toys neck.

"Martha please," Chloe screamed once she saw what Martha was about to do.

"Oops," Martha smiled as she cut off Mr. Bears centerpiece red ribbon. Chloe desperately clung onto Martha's apron as she pleaded all her worth to save Mr. Bears life.

"Please Martha, no more," Chloe cried as tears ran down her face.

"Get off me," Martha said pushing the young girl away from her person. "Know what though? I'm feeling kind of generous so I tell you what little girl. You admit that you were the one who said all that shit, apologize and I'll give you your shitty toy back. Don't admit to your mistake and I'm going to give Mr. Bear here surgery," Martha threatened.

"O-ok, it was me. I said all of those horrible things and I'm very sorry," Chloe hurried out. Martha smirked in satisfaction.

"Good. Now get the hell out of my sight," Martha said before callously dumping Mr. Bear on the floor. Chloe waste no time in scooping up her friend and retreating back to her room.

Locked inside her room Chloe wept while still cradling Mr. Bear tightly in her arms. Fresh tears dripped and dissolved on his fur. Chloe could feel as his furry hands gently pawed at her cheeks in comfort.

"There, there Chloe no more tears. Everything is going to be just fine. Mr. Bear will take care of everything. Mr. Bear will make it all better," Mr. Bear cooed. A peculiar glint shined in Mr. Bears eye.

"Ok so tell me the rules again Mr. Bear?" Chloe asked as she crouched down inside her wardrobe.

"Chloe is to hide here and not utter a single peep. And no matter what you hear you can't come out. The only way you can come out is if I say "Little rabbit come on out a peekin on me" understand?" Mr. Bear explained. Chloe thought the game was highly unusual but it sounded like fun.

"Ok got it," Chloe chirped.

"Good, good," Mr. Bear said as he slowly closed the doors to the wardrobe. Chloe waited in silence as she listened as Mr. Bear closed the door to her bedroom.

"And that's not even the worst part girl. Everytime I come here this place is even more nastier than when I left. I tell you what if this pay wasn't good I would have long left this dump," Martha said into the phone.

"I...whoa," Martha squeaked when she turned around and saw Mr. Bear sitting on top of the counter seemingly leering at her. "Ugh, very funny lil girl. You must really want me to shred this thing to ribbons," Martha threatened as she picked up Mr. Bear by the arm and examined it.

"Ugly thing," Martha sneered as she tossed it on top of the shelf where all of the larger pots and dishes were. "Since you wanna play games lets see you get your bear from all the way up there," Martha yelled hoping in vain that Chloe heard her.

"Yeah girl I'm back. Remember that little brat I was telling you about? Yeah that's the one. Yeah apparently she want me to fuck this bear of hers up," Martha laughed into the phone.

Before Martha could say another word a pot came crashing down on top of her head knocking her to the floor.

Martha lay moaning in pain as her friend called out to her in worry.

"Let...Ah let me call you back. Oh my God," Martha moaned in pain as she hung up on her friend. "Fucking cunt," Martha cussed at the pot that lay scattered on the floor. Glancing up to see how the pot had fallen she notes that the bear is nowhere to be seen.

"How the hell...ah," Martha grimaced feeling the back of her head. Drawing her fingers back she sees that the hit was severe enough to draw blood. "Fuck," Martha cussed. She quickly looks around for the bear wondering how in the hell it could've just up and disappeared. Then sudden realization dawned on her: Chloe.

"Chloe, you little bitch you are so dead," Martha roared as she stormed into the living room. Chloe was nowhere in sight. "You think pulling shit like this is funny you little shit? What would you have done if I was knocked unconscious huh?" Martha fussed as she checked each room for Chloe only to turn up empty.

Growing more angrier by the second at being seemingly played by a nine year old Martha stormed up the steps in a rage as she charged Chloe's room.

"Chloe!" Martha bellowed. Chloe, who was still within the wardrobe stiffened considerably. She could hear as Martha stomped around her room breathing hard muttering curse word after curse word. Fear began to settle in. What had she done? Why was Martha so upset and why was she looking for her?

"When I find you I swear to God I'm going to beat the shit out of you," Martha hissed causing Chloe to gasp silently.

'Mr. Bear said that no matter what I heard I wasn't to come out' Chloe silently reminded herself. And so she opted to close her eyes tightly and cover both her ears to block out Martha's vicious profanity.

Having destroyed Chloe's room all that was left to search now was the wardrobe. Martha quickly stalked toward it before a loud crash coming from downstairs caught her attention.

"Chloe!" Martha yelled as she quickly ran out of the room leaving the wardrobe untouched.

Barging into the kitchen Martha looks around wildly until she spots the source of the noise. Laying shattered on the floor was a simple drinking cup. Chloe was definitely here.

"Hehe," Martha heard a silent giggle. Martha listened for it again.

"Martha will never find me here," It was Chloe's voice and it was coming from within the pantry. A cruel smile played over Martha's lips.

"Game over you little shit," Martha said as she walked over and turned the knob to the pantry. Springing it open in hopes of scaring what she thought to be Chloe Martha was taken by surprise when a painful amount of salt was thrown into her eyes.

Giving out a shrill squeak Martha recoiled violently crashing into the counter and falling to the floor.

"Oh my God, my eyes," Martha sobbed as she tried in vain to rub them. They stung torturously and left her blind to her surroundings. She squirmed violently as she cried on the floor rubbing profusely at her eyes. Her cries stifled when she heard the sound of very soft feet.

"Chloe...Chloe is that you?" Martha asked, her eyes glued shut. She gently began to feel around the area in front of her. She heard the very same giggle from earlier.

"Chloe...please answer me," Martha screamed in panic.

"Chloe is not here at the moment," Came an unfamilar voice.

"W-who are you?" Chloe asked panic striken.

"Why I'm Bear...Mr. Bear," The voice said in a rather chipper tone.

"Wha- Is this some kind of joke," Martha asked incredulously. She refused to believe that the thing talking to her was the very same stuffed bear she not too long ago stashed on top of the shelf. Struggling against the burning protest of her eyes Martha strained her eyes to see just who it was that was speaking to her.

Through her blurred vision she could finally make out the face of the one whom the voice belonged to and what she saw made her gasp. Standing right in front of her was none other than Mr. Bear, and clutched firmly in his grasp was the same pair of scissors she not too long ago had used to cut off his ribbon.

"Please no," Martha pleaded her eyes watery and burning. She tried in vain to crawl away. To Martha's horror a wide and terrifying smile spread on Mr. Bears face as two rows of teeth were visibly seen.

"No can do. Smart mouthed girls deserve to die," Mr. Bear said in a distorted voice.

Inside the wardrobe Chloe had become very bored. All curiosity about earlier gone. Now all she wanted to do was get out of that stuffy old wardrobe.

She instantly tensed up when she heard her bedroom door open and close.

"Little rabbit come on out a peekin on me" Came Mr. Bears voice. Relief flooded Chloe as she eagerly opened the doors to the wardrobe greeted by a smiling Mr. Bear.

"It's about time Mr. Bear I was beginning to think I'd suffocate in there," Chloe joked causing Mr. Bear to chuckle.

"My apologies sweet Chloe. Say, would you like to play another game?" Mr. Bear asked. Chloe looked at Mr. Bear in wonder.

"I don't understand...how?" Was all Chloe could say as she watched as Mr. Bear cut up bits and pieces of Martha's body and stuffed the bloody parts into zip lock bags. By now half of the entirety of his fur was covered in blood.

"It's quite simple really my dear Chloe. Martha was a bad person and bad people need to be punished. Do you know why I had to punish Martha Chloe?" Mr. Bear asked not once stopping in his task at hand of cutting up parts of Martha and stuffing it in a different ziplock bag.

"W-why?" Chloe asked feeling suddenly fearful around her old friend.

"Because she hurt Chloe and hurting Chloe is bad. Mr. Bear promises to punish anyone who hurts Chloe. Mr. Bear promises you this because Mr. Bear loves you," Mr. Bear said as he abruptly dropped what was in his hand and hugged Chloe, slightly staining her clothes with the blood. Chloe hesitantly returned the gesture.

"I-I love you to Mr. Bear," Chloe muttered.

"I'm glad to hear it. We both love each other. And did you know that two people who love each other keep each others secrets also?" Mr. Bear asked.

"No Mr. Bear I didn't know that," Chloe answered honestly.

"Oh yes, we always keep each others secrets. Why, it would be very bad if Chloe told Mr. Bears secret. Mr. Bear would be taken away and wouldn't be able to protect Chloe. Is that what Chloe wants...for Mr. Bear to be taken away?" Mr. Bear asked. At hearing that Chloe hugged Mr. Bear tightly.

"No never, I'll never ever tell. Not even momma and daddy I swear. So please don't go. I love you," Chloe confessed. A smile creeped along Mr. Bears lips.

"And Mr. Bear loves Chloe...forever and always."

That night Chloe's parents had returned to find their daughter sitting in her room that had been thrashed. WIth a wink from Mr. Bear Chloe had recited the exact same story she and Mr. Bear had rehearsed together word for word. Angrily her parents each took turns leaving a nasty voicemail on Martha's phone stating that she'd be hearing from their lawyers and other law enforcements.

It bewildered how Mr. Bear was able to clean up all of Martha's blood both off the floor and off his fur. But astonishingly enough, he did it. But where he stashed the zip lock bags stuffed with Martha's flesh and bones Chloe hadn't a clue.

For a few days after that her parents took great care to try and make up for the incident, buying Chloe all kinds of new toys. And for awhile Chloe enjoyed the lavish attention she received from her parents. But as with anything, it had to end eventually.

It wasn't long before the reality and pressures her parents faced whisked them away once again.

"Listen sweety I know you're a bit apprehensive at the thought of another babysitter but your father and I took great care into doing a thorough background investigation of your new babysitter and from what we found this woman is a jewel," Chloe's mother said. Chloe shook her head stubbornly.

"I don't wanna new babysitter I want you and papa," Chloe cried.

"Aw baby, I'm sorry. But always know that me and your father love you dearly. Everything that we've worked for, all that we have done was because we want to provide you with the best life possible," Her mother said.

"Well if having the best life takes you away from me I don't want it," Chloe declared. Her mother gave her a sad smile.

"One day when you're older and have children of your own you'll understand," Her mother said.

"I don't wanna understand!" Chloe yelled before running off to her room. Inside Mr. Bear sat on top of her bed peering down at her as she slumped against the door.

"It's alright Chloe. I'm here," Mr. Bear reassured. Chloe's angry gaze cut to Mr. Bear before her cerulean eyes softened.

"Yes, I know Mr. Bear. Thank you," Chloe smiled.

"Do you love Mr. Bear?" Mr. Bear asked.

"Always," Chloe answered automatically. That seemed to satisfy him.

Chloe couldn't help but be aware of Mr. Bear's rapid change in behavior. At first Chloe was touched by his devotion but soon it began to extend to new unprecedented heights. For example Mr. Bear began to persistently insist that Chloe verbally proclaimed her love for him at any point in the day or night. He became increasingly jealous whenever she paid, what he deemed too much attention to her other toys.

Chloe once walked in on Mr. Bearj only to discover that he had beheaded every last one of her barbie dolls. His nonchalant response was: "You don't need them when you have me. I am enough." Through it all however Chloe never reprimanded or scolded Mr. Bear but instead soothed his temper and whispered sweet nothings to him much to his pleasure. Unbeknownst to her she was merely a raven feeding a lion.

Later that night her parents gave her the shock of a lifetime. They announced that they planned to cut down on their business hours so that they could spend more time with her. That made Chloe's little heart glad. And seeing Chloe happy made Mr. Bear happy...however things quickly changed for Mr. Bear.

Before Mr. Bear had no problem being the center of Chloe's world. Why if he so much as spoke it Chloe would shower him in endless love and hail him over all others. Mr. Bear was her world...or so he had been.

Now that the parents had begun to take an active interest in Chloe she began drifting further and further away from him. From movie nights, to beach parties with friends little Chloe stayed busy, far too busy for Mr. Bears liking. He watched as she slowly began to change. She no longer confided in him, or interacted with him as she once did. Whenever she was around him she was either asleep or too busy to take any notice of him.

But what ached the most was that Chloe no longer felt inclined to tell him that she loved him. He had become starved. Starved for her attention, her affection and above all else, her love.

Mr. Bear could do no more than watch as little Chloe slowly drifted away from him. He could do no more than watch as she was ripped from him...no stolen from him. He could do no more than watch as Chloe found happiness...with something other than himself.

Gradually Mr. Bear grew tired of watching...Mr. Bear grew wrathful. Mr. Bear would see to it that the matter was fixed. Immediately!

"Chloe?" Mr. Bear had called her one day.

"Yes Mr. Bear?" Chloe asked not once looking away from the mirror as she tried fixing up her ponytail. Chloe had already turned 10 years old by this time and was experimenting with a more mature look seeing as her newfound friends both acted and looked mature.

"Do you love me?" Mr. Bear asked in a hushed whisper. Chloe looked back at the rather ragged looking bear. She shrugged.

"Sure Mr. Bear," Something died within Mr. Bear at hearing those words said so callously. He didn't feel it. He hadn't felt it in a long time actually. Chloe's love.

"Where are you going?" Mr. Bear had asked her. She noticed that his blank gaze followed her wherever her busy body went around the room.

"Just out with some friends," Chloe had answered.

"Why?" Mr. Bear asked.

"Because...I want to get out of the house for a bit," Chloe answered.

"Am I not enough?" Mr. Bear asked. His voice below a whisper.

"Yes but...ok look. I love you Mr. Bear I really do but lately you've been so...needy and clingy. I just really would like some space. Please?" Chloe said. What little bit of sanity Mr. Bear had left shattered that day. Mr. Bear felt enough time had passed. Now was the time to reclaim what belonged to him.

It was late that night that the family was preparing themselves for bed. Chloe once dressed in her PJ's climbed into bed alongside Mr. Bear who had sat there motionlessly. Chloe briefly glanced at the still bear.

"Goodnight Mr. Bear," Chloe whispered to him. She was meant with dead silence. A little threw off by his silence Chloe studied him for a few minutes before shrugging it off and snuggling under the covers.

Abruptly Mr. Bears eyes cut to her sleeping form.

XXXXX

Chloe was unsure what had awoken her but on hindsight she was glad it had. Noticing that Mr. Bear was no longer by her side it took her a moment before she actually crawled out of bed.

"Mr. Bear?" Chloe called out, yawning. She called out to him again after not getting a response.

"Where is he?" she asked herself. Venturing out of her room she began to wander along down the hallway. To her surprise her parents door was opened and...a light was on.

Thinking it odd Chloe made her way toward their room.

"Mom...dad?" Chloe asked rubbing her eyes as she walked in. Chloe stopped cold. All became silent.

Situated on top of their beds inbetween the two of her parents was none other than Mr. Bear. And he was covered from head to toe in blood...her parents blood. They both lay before him mutilated, their faces skinned, their necks slashed and their chests cut open.

Chloe nearly fainted accidentally stumbling into the door drawing Mr. Bears attention. He slowly looked up at her, eyes black as pits as they cried tears of blood. A malicious smile spread across Mr. Bears face.

"Is it better now Chloe? Do you love me now? I love you so much. You are everything to me, you are all I have Chloe. You are my world. Do you love me now? Do you?" Mr. Bears voice rose with evey word spoken. Chloe could do no more than stare in utter horror at the unbelievable scene before her.

"Chloe...Do...You...Love...Me?" Mr. Bear asked again stepping closer to her with each word.

Chloe slowly slid to her knees and cried.

"Don't cry Chloe, Mr. Bear is here to make it all better," Mr. Bear said in a sickeningly sweet voice.

"I...I...I," Chloe choked on her words as she sobbed in uncontrollable grief. Mr. Bear smiled cruelly at Chloe.

"Do you love me?" Mr. Bear asked once more tilting Chloe's face up towards his with the point of the knife. Blue eyes stared into bloody black beads in horror.

"I d-do...I do," She stuttered out.

"I'm sorry sweet Chloe, but Mr. Bear can no longer trust in your words. After all, it was you who stopped loving Mr. Bear," He grinned wickedly baring all of his razor sharp teeth.

"I'm sorry...please I'm so sorry," Chloe pleaded.

"Chloe has been bad and bad people need to be punished," He singed.

"No!" Chloe screamed.

"No need to worry sweet Chloe, I only do this because I love you!" Mr. Bear said. Chloe let off an earsplitting scream.

Three days later and the Wilson manor had been swarmed by the police. Forensic specialist and investigators alike had all come together to piece together the bizarre mystery surrounding the murders of Mr. and Mrs. Wison and their young daughter.

"So what do we got so far?" The detective had asked.

"Well sir, the only bodies we were able to recover intact were those of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson. Upon further investigation into the manor however we discovered the remains of some unknown person buried deep in a freezer stored in ziplock bags," The man explained. The detective visibly cringed.

"You say only two bodies were recovered? What about the little girl? The daughter?" He asked.

"No sign of her anywhere. We've checked every corner of the mansion and even in the surrounding woods but we only came up empty handed. But it gets even stranger," The man said.

"I doubt that," The detective grunted.

"Apparently when the neighbors came to check in on the family the day after the murders took place they made a startling discovery," The man said. The detective perked up at that.

"Oh yeah, and what was that?" He asked.

"They said they saw a strange colored teddy bear sitting in the middle of the daughters bed inside her room and sitting in it's lap was a heart that appeared to have still been beating.

"Poor unfortunate soul," The mysterious woman said as she gently stroked her feline companion Twilight.

"If only she had heeded my warning. Her love was never to depart from him. She was never to deprive him of her love. Otherwise the price to pay would be her own heart. But because of her disobedience, in the end her request for love ended up in her very own heart being stolen from her. And now, she will be loved for all eternity...in hell."

"Meow," Twilight's eyes twinkled in the moonlight as they both watched another white feather wither away.
