Scene 3
Natasha walks through a large ballroom, the soft strains of classical music floating around the room (I was playing Arsonists Lullaby for this purely for the idea that there could be these badass walk in shots). Natasha is on the top floor looking down onto the room. She walks down a long set of elegant stairs (a bit like Loki did in the Avengers) and assesses the room sharply, her eyes landing on a figure speaking with two much more important-looking men. It's David Lieberman, more widely known as Microchip, Natasha's target.
She sticks to the walls, making her way over towards Lieberman inconspicuously. She removes a device from her gloved wrist and flings it towards the men where it catches and settles itself in. A notification appears on her phone and she listens to the message which is being replayed through. She imitates as if she was on the phone and the conversation comes through.
Businessman 1: You're being idiotic if you think running will help you, especially after the stunt you pulled.
Lieberman[coming upon the realisation]: You're Kingpin's men, he sent you here.
Businessmen 2: You'll be coming back with us.
Lieberman: What if I don't want too?
Businessman 2 [Laughing]: You know the boss treats defiance, plus, we wouldn't want to create a scene.
Lieberman: You're wrong, Kingpin loves scenes.
Businessman 1: I guess then, he won't mind when we make one.
There's the clear click of a safety being taken off, Natasha tenses and spares a glance. Her eyes scan the crowd and lock on a man. He raises a glass towards her, everything else melting away, we see Natasha in a moment of pure conflict and horror. This is a significant moment from her past that's been pulled from the grave.
A shrill scream breaks the eye contact and Natasha looks back to Lieberman and the others, realising that he's currently at gunpoint and shout to be taken away. Regretting her decision, Natasha runs towards the men, kicking out the gun from the guy's hands and using her heel to bitch slap the guy, he falls to the floor with a grunt.
There's three other men, guns raised and ready to shoot at Natasha and now Lieberman whose now cowering behind Natasha comically. Natasha, caught in a moment of weakness, feigns surrender.
There's a tense moment before Natasha pushes Lieberman for cover behind one of the tables and pulling out her guns. The spot where she was a second a go is shredded with bullet holes.
Natasha [Laughs]: Sloppy, pretending to be weak.
Natasha frowns as she tries to remember where the words came from. Lieberman's words pierce her thoughts.
Lieberman [Stammering]: Y-You're her, the Black Widow.
Natasha smiles a little, a bullet almost grazes her shoulder, making a nice peek a boo hole.
Natasha: Nice to know some people know who I am.
She quickly peaks through the hole before popping upwards and nailing all three guys in the legs. She yanks up Lieberman and rushes out, he looks over his shoulder, alarmed.
Lieberman[Chocking out the words]: You actually shot them?
Natasha[Humorously]: Be grateful I didn't aim a little higher.
Natasha and Lieberman run through the hall, tables overturned, chairs knocked to the side. The other guests have thankfully, cleared out.
Lieberman[Wheezing]: Slow down! I can't run for long!
Natasha: Why were you here?
Lieberman[Wheezing]: Why were you here?
Natasha: I asked first.
Lieberman: T-There was a man, he wanted files, seriously encrypted stuff.
Natasha: They were from Washington. SHIELD files. Weren't they?
Lieberman: They were files.
Natasha [stronger]: Weren't they? Where are they now?
Lieberman: H-He's already got them, files on, you, on the Avengers, projects, locations, all of it, but mostly you.
Natasha steps away, breathing heavily. Lieberman stands.
Lieberman: He got them.
Natasha: Who?
Lieberman: He-
The rapid sound of gunfire echoes throughout, Lieberman drops to the floor, his suit staining with blood. Natasha tries to keep her distress under control as she realises this could be another mark on her ledger. Natasha conceals that as she checks where Lieberman's been shot.
Natasha: It's fine, it's just a flesh wound.
She makes up a makeshift bandage for him out of a handkerchief.
Lieberman[Groaning in pain]: A flesh wound huh?
Lieberman laughs dryly and Natasha looks to the men approaching then down to whatever's she's writing.
Natasha: I'm gonna lead them away, okay? Wait a few minutes then go and get medical help, check in with this number by twelve tonight, got it?
Lieberman nods, his forehead sweaty and cheeks red. He's trying to conceal his pain and Natasha gives him credit for it. She gives him the number and stands, getting a considerable distance away before firing at the approaching men.
A woman comes from around the corner, Natasha sweeps her off her feet but the other woman stays on her feet. A few punches and kicks are exchanged, Natasha realises that this opponent is possibly stronger than her and they go onto another series of kicks and punches.
Natasha sends the other woman flying back quite a few paces. A spotlight from a helicopter lands on her, police flood the area, Natasha turns to the woman but she's gone. Roughly, she's forced into a police cruiser, for a moment she turns back to see a man standing on top of the roof, a shard of light hits his face and Natasha realises it's the same man from before.
Personally, I think the chapter could've been a bit more dialogue-based, but I really feel that for all her little quips around her friends, Natasha's generally a more sullen and silent person alone. So right now, I'm trying to find the equilibrium.
Character; David Lieberman, formally known as the Microchip. From the comics he's known as always overweight and that's something he hates about himself (fun fact: he once signed himself up for a fat camp, hence the flesh wound joke). Lieberman was introduced in the Punisher series, and has been known to have dealings with Kingpin in the past (even had an almost invisible cameo in Daredevil). I'm still thinking of casting for Microchip (think Larry from Parks and Rec but a bit more disgruntled and slightly younger)
Natasha isn't going to stay in the government's care for long (this is a NON- American government right now, but perhaps any ideas on what it should be?) she just needs a little whiff of how much trouble she's really in and perhaps identify the villain of the script.
IMPORTANT: What makes a good villain for you personally? Is it their failed hero attempt? Their good looks and sexy accent? They're powers and abilities? Or their villain monologue?
Dedicated to @BigSister12345 for her kind words <3
I'll see you guys next Scene, perhaps a bit of T'Challa too ;)
