[000] the confrontation
[000] the confrontation
Eun-jung Hong had been hopelessly in love with Guinevere Beck.
From the first moment they had met at one of Peach Salinger's stupid parties, Eun-jung knew she had found the one for her. Not only was Beck beautiful, but she was also sweet and flirty - a mischievous spark about her that Eun-jung wanted to learn more about. The two quickly became friends, much to Peach's chagrin. No matter how hard Peach tried, she couldn't pry the two of them apart.
But Eun-jung wanted far more than friendship. She wanted to be everything to Beck, she wanted Beck to love her the same.
Beck had shitty taste in men, that was no secret. Half of the time, she didn't even make much of an effort and she'd just attract the absolute worst. But Beck fell for them all, crying on Eun-jung's shoulders when it all fell apart. Just as Eun-jung knew it would. If Eun-jung couldn't have Beck the way she wanted to, she tried to settle for protecting her. She'd follow Beck around when the other girl was unaware of it, watching her from a distance and making sure that she was safe.
At least, it started out that way.
Eventually, Eun-jung's obsession with Beck grew the more she watched her. She'd often stay outside her house and watch her through the window, monitoring her best friend's routine. Beck usually stuck to the same thing. She wasn't ashamed to admit that she stuck around even when one of Beck's boyfriends came around, things quickly escalating between them. Eun-jung watched, wishing that it was her instead. And although Eun-jung knew that it could never be, the love remained.
And then Joe Goldberg came around, ruining every-fucking-thing.
Beck had fallen for the bookstore owner, even though he apparently couldn't last long in bed. Something Peach loved to take shots at him for. Peach didn't like Joe, but that was just because she too desired Beck and wanted to keep her all to herself. But Eun-jung wasn't like that. Sure, she was also in love with Beck, but she knew she'd be much better for Beck than Peach could ever be. Eun-jung also knew that there was something fishy about Joe.
But she had no clue. Maybe if she had, she could've saved Beck.
Eun-jung had tried to warn Beck, even with all of the mysterious deaths happening around them. But Beck didn't listen. She thought that Eun-jung was just being jealous. For a while, the two of them had actually split up and Eun-jung was hopeful they'd stay like that. But Eun-jung never got what she wished for, and it wouldn't be long before they'd find their way back to each other, Joe snaking his way back in like he always did. The last night Eun-jung had seen Beck alive, the two of them had fought because of it.
"If you're not jealous, why do you not want me to go back to Joe? Give me one good reason," Beck frowns, glaring at Eun-jung.
The two of them were inside of Eun-jung's apartment, since Eun-jung had called the blonde over to talk. Hearing the devastating news that they were back together; she wanted to try and make Beck see reason. And... to finally confess her true feelings in hope that Beck would leave Joe for her instead.
"Because... because I love you," Eun-jung declared.
"What?" Beck faltered. Those words were the very last things Beck expected to hear from Eun-jung.
Eun-jung grabs a hold of Beck's hands, her grip tightening out of desperation as she searched Beck's eyes for any sign that Beck felt the same. "I'm in love with you. I've been in love with you from the first moment we met. I probably should've told you sooner but - but now's the perfect time, don't you think? It's not too late for us. If you leave Joe now, we could just leave and go far away."
"Eun-jung," Beck shakes her head, trying to pull away from her friend.
"I have the money. I could get us any place you want. And we'll be far away from this fucking city. Maybe we should get a nice cottage in the middle of nowhere, no one to bother us. You can keep working on your book without all of the stupid distractions and -," Eun-jung continued rambling, up until Beck finally stopped her.
"Eun-jung!" Beck exclaimed.
She blinks, looking over at Beck in confusion. "What happened?"
"I love you too," Beck starts.
"You do?" Eun-jung smiled. This was all she had wanted to hear from the very beginning. If she knew that it'd be this easy, she would've done this a lot sooner.
"But as a friend. I love you as a friend," Beck remarked.
"What?" Eun-jung questioned.
"I'm sorry but -," Beck began, but she's instantly silenced by Eun-jung scoffing as she moves away from her.
"No, you're not. If you were really sorry, you'd leave Joe right now. He's no good for you. None of your exes were. But you just love picking losers instead of having something good in your life for once. It's honestly getting pathetic seeing you fall for them and getting abandoned after. Don't you want better?" Eun-jung snapped.
She had never spoken to Beck this way before but Eun-jung was exhausted and heartbroken, seeing nothing but red. And so, it was easy for her to take her anger out on the woman who had broken her heart.
"Excuse me?" Beck frowned.
"I have tried to stand by you and support you, even if it meant suffocating my own feelings. But I am sick and tired of it. I'm sick and tired of you dating assholes and then crying to me about it. Joe's going to hurt you, I know he is. He's just going to use you and throw you away! And when he does, I'll be there to say I told you so," Eun-jung continued.
"I'll save you the satisfaction. If that's how you really feel, then I'll stop being such a fucking burden for you," Beck replied, looking crushed as she began storming towards the door.
"Beck, wait!" Eun-jung began chasing after her, grabbing her arm to keep her in place.
"Let go of me," Beck snaps, taking a deep breath as she turns to look at Eun-jung. "You know, I really do hope you find someone that's able to love you. But that just isn't me. I'm sorry."
Eun-jung just watched as Beck walked out of her apartment. If she had any clue it'd be the last time she'd ever see her best friend alive, Eun-jung would have kept her inside for as long as she could and kill Joe herself.
But just like that, Beck vanishes. She'd end up murdered, the culprit being her own therapist. Or at least, that's what it seemed like. The time Beck's book comes out, everyone was convinced he had done it. But it just didn't make sense. Eun-jung knew Joe had something to do with it. He was the only one with an actual motive. Maybe Beck had tried to leave him again or maybe she found something she shouldn't have, but Eun-jung knew Beck had been killed by Joe.
And so, Eun-jung decides to confront Joe.
With just one phone call, they decide to meet by the park late at night. Eun-jung was more than happy too. After all, she couldn't kill Joe if there were a bunch of witnesses around, could she? Eun-jung had Joe right where she wanted him and once she got him to confess, she planned on killing him once and for all. A life for a life, it was only fair.
"Why'd you bring me out here?" Joe questioned.
"Are you in a hurry, Joe?" Eun-jung replied, her hands behind her back. In her back pocket was a knife, the same one she planned on using for Joe once he gave her the answers she needed.
He goes silent for a moment, thinking about his response before he finally speaks. "No."
"Good, because I was hoping to get straight to the point," Eun-jung admits.
"Is this about Beck?"
"Of course it's about Beck. I just want to know what happened to her."
Joe chuckles. "I think we all know what happened to her. She was unfortunately murdered by her crazy therapist."
"The same one she was cheating on you with. Weren't you angry about that?"
Joe's eyes narrow in suspicion. "I mean, sure. But not angry enough to kill, if that's what you're implying."
"Forgive me if I think that the whole psycho therapist bullshit is a little hard for me to swallow. The only thing he's guilty of is screwing Beck behind your back and we both know that. Do you know what I think, Joe?"
"Enlighten me."
"I think you killed Beck. No, I know you did. I just need you to tell me why. I promise I won't call the cops or tell them. I'll let the man you framed for your crime remain locked behind bars. I don't care about him. I just want to know why," Eun-jung explained.
"I didn't kill Beck," Joe denied, as expected.
"Bullshit! You killed Beck! It was you!" Eun-jung exclaimed, quickly losing her temper. Along with her patience.
"I know you're upset over Beck dying. I am too. But you have to move on, Eun-jung. You can't keep being obsessed with her even in death," Joe shakes his head, sighing in what sounded like disappointment.
"What?" Eun-jung scoffed.
"Do you really think I didn't know? Peach was one thing but you... you're utterly obsessed with Beck. In your mind, it was like the two of you were already married. But Beck never saw things that way. She never loved you that way. And you couldn't stand it. So you have to convince yourself that I'm the bad guy to make yourself feel better," Joe continued.
"Shut up!" Eun-jung shouted. Joe's words had successfully gotten underneath her skin.
"I'm not mad at you, Eun-jung. In fact, I'm willing to forgive you for this if we just leave now and forget this even happened," Joe reasoned.
Eun-jung scoffed. "There's no fucking way I'm letting you get away with what you did. You killed Beck, so now I have to kill you."
"Eun-jung," Joe scoffs, wondering if she was serious or not.
She pulls out the knife, gripping onto it with a grin. "Prison's too good for a maniac like you. You deserve to die. If you're lucky, I might just slice your throat and let you bleed out. How does that sound, hm?"
Eun-jung charges towards Joe, holding up the knife as she prepared to stab him with it. Joe decided to try his luck and grab a hold of her, hoping to wrestle the knife out of her hand. The two of them struggled for a bit before Eun-jung kneed him in the balls as hard as she could, making him fall to the ground. As he squirmed in pain, Eun-jung walked towards him and held onto the knife, preparing to bend down and stab him.
But Joe grabs her legs and successfully makes her trip, falling to the ground. The knife leaves her grasp and Eun-jung crawls towards it. Just as Eun-jung was close to grabbing it, Joe grabbed her feet and pulled her back. He began crawling on top of her and Eun-jung resorted to slapping and scratching his face, doing whatever she could to distract him long enough so she could grab the knife for herself.
"I knew you were crazy. But this is shocking, even for me," Joe stated.
"Takes one to know one, asshole," Eun-jung retorted.
"She didn't give me a choice, just like you aren't right now. I didn't want to kill her and I don't want to kill you. But you leave me no other choice," Joe admitted. Finally, he had confessed and proven all of Eun-jung's suspicions to be correct.
Eun-jung spits in his face. "Fuck you!"
Joe wipes the spit off before he reaches over for the knife, stabbing Eun-jung in the upper part of her chest by her shoulder. Eun-jung cries out in pain, feeling it radiate throughout her entire body. He takes a deep breath before he climbs off of her, watching as Eun-jung struggled. Blood began to pool up from the wound, staining her shirt with crimson.
"I didn't want it to end like this. But you gave me no other choice. At least... you and Beck can be together now," Joe remarked.
Eun-jung gasps as he rips the knife out, making her bleed out even more.
"Don't go anywhere. I'll be right back," Joe replied.
Joe drives off, going back to the store so he could grab everything needed to dispose of Eun-jung's body. You see, he had made the mistake of thinking she was dead. But Eun-jung was very much alive - barely, of course, but alive nonetheless. Eun-jung gets up with the little bit of strength she has, going towards her car and beginning to drive off before Joe could come back and finish what he had started.
The blood loss was only getting worse but thankfully, Eun-jung manages to drive far enough to alert for help. An elderly couple finds the woman bleeding out and clutching onto her shoulder, immediately taking her to the hospital where she'd be taken care of. Of course, they all asked what had happened to her after she was taken care of. And Eun-jung spun an adventure packed tale about being robbed by a mad man who tried to kill her once she didn't easily give up her belongings.
Eun-jung was believed, of course.
She was hoping Joe would realize his mistake and come to find her so they could properly finish things. But Joe vanished after that. Maybe he assumed that Eun-jung would tell. She didn't, of course. She still believed that prison was too good for him, and he belonged in a casket six feet under the dirt. Although she failed the first time, she didn't plan on making the same mistake twice.
Eun-jung was determined to find Joe Goldberg and when she did, she was going to murder him once and for all.
