Chapter 10

Third person POV

The avengers were completely shattered and no one was there to pick up the pieces, Natasha wanted to get out and do missions but was denied because of her mental state, so she took off and the others would try to occupy themselves but nothing lasted long.

Tony would create all these new weapons and gadgets but were never used but still he continued his work. Bruce would try to relax and stay calm, but the hulk tried to escape it's cages but Bruce was dealing with it more like struggling.

Steve would be in the gym or running or working with his new team in upstate New York by himself while Natasha was on leave god knows where. Thor went back to Asgard to grieve and that is how they copped, Fury could see the dramatic toll it took on them and he had to think of something before everything went into meltdown.

It was the day of Clint's funeral everyone gathered in a small cathedral, the Avengers new and old excluding Natasha who couldn't be reached, sat at the front and Laura and the kids sat on the other side. Agents and other people sat down around them.

Laura struggled to not cry while hugging her kids tightly. None of them knew Natasha was there, she sat at the back out of sight and watched her fellow teammates and Laura mourn over Clint. The service soon ended and it was time to bury him.

Steve, Tony, Bruce and Thor picked up the casket and walked out of the cathedral, they passed Natasha who concealed her face from, they placed the casket in the car and silently everyone joined walking behind the car as it slowly drove to the cemetery.
Once it reached there the Avengers picked it up and walked it over to where Clint would be layed to rest, Natasha stood behind a tree. The avengers stood around the hole with Laura holding the kids closely to her.

Once the funeral ended the Avengers went up to the Laura giving her their sympathies.

Natasha waited until they were out of sight before walking over to the grave. The tombstone had his name engraved on it, she knelt down and her eyes became teary. "I swear to you, I will find who ever did this and they shall pay. I promise you, I still owe you a debt and I shall repay you by doing whatever means necessary to avenge you" she said with anger, she stood up and stared at the tomb stone. She turned around to start to walk when she saw someone familiar.

"Natasha" he said almost sympathetically, "Nick" I said. "We need you to come back in" he said to her. "Get someone else, because I'm out" I said as I walked past him, "Do you think Clint would want you to go rogue on us?"

He said with no sympathy, Natasha was infuriated how dare he use her dead best friend against her, she marched up to him and looked him in the one eye, "don't you dare even go there Fury, I don't need this shit from you Fury, got it and I quit shield, the Avengers. I quit" she said right in his face and angrily with still a couple of tears running down her face.

Fury looked at her sympathetically and worried for what had happened to the cold hearted assassin who did not have emotions and feelings. "Natasha we just want you to come in for a day please" he asked calmly.

"Maybe" and with that Natasha walked away from Fury towards her run down excuse for accommodation, a small apartment that was as old as Abraham Lincoln himself. She sat down in the hard couch. She needed her things from the Avengers tower so she decided to text Fury that she was coming in tomorrow.

She decided to sleep which was no use, nightmares flooded her dreams as usual, she barely slept and with a terrible excuse for a bed, she layed in bed and when she could see the light, she got up and made her way to the Avengers Tower.

As she walked in, everyone sitting around a table looking miserable, excluding Thor who went back to Asgard after the funeral. They straightened up and looked at Natasha in surprise, she sat down away from anyone before any questions could be asked. Fury walked in, he nodded at Natasha while she just rolled her eyes.

"The reason why I have called you here is because of recent events including Clint's passing, we have decided since you all won't talk about it we would bring someone in to help with the process of grief" Fury said, everyone's face was one of the same annoyed and shocked that Fury would make this decision.

"Yeah...no I didn't come back for a psych assessment, so I'll be leaving now" she said with attitude, she got up out of her seat and walked away, "it wasn't up for discussion, it was an order" Fury sternly said while trying to stay calm, "I quit remember so you can't tell me what to do" Natasha said.
"Alright then I'll just export you back to Russia, I can get them online and tell them, your choice"he said, he was
Playing fire with fire and it worked, Natasha sat back down grumpily.

"Right, please make Dr. Hyde welcome, she will be staying here for a while until she is happy to leave, she will be here tomorrow." Fury said. It was obvious everyone didn't agree with it, but Fury had control over them like his own personal puppets.

Fury walked out and went back to the Hellicarrier. The Avengers sat there silently until Tony spoke up, "right well we have less than a day before Dr. Hyde comes, so I will be doing in my lab." He said as he got up and walked to his lab alone.

"I'm just going to go to my room" Bruce said awkwardly leaving Natasha and Steve sitting silently. "So what have you been doing?" asked Steve trying to break the silence.

"Stuff" she replied with. She knew, they would find out sooner than later but she just needed time to get as much information as she could. Steve nodded, Natasha wanted to get out of the awkwardness, "I am going to the training room."

"I'll come" he said, Natasha wanted to be alone but how could she refuse, she nodded and walked to her room to get changed. She didn't take much with her when she left, she grabbed her training outfit and walked out to meet with Steve.

They walked silently towards the training room, she headed straight for the punching bags and beat the hell out of it, Steve watched in worry as his friend was not the same as she once was.

Steve decided to do weights not that he needed to maintain his muscle because (a) he had the super serum and (b) he already had big muscles and a good body (not that I noticed....well maybe).

They trained for almost two hours and they both decided to have lunch it was only Bruce, Steve and Natasha excluding Tony who was glued to whatever project he was doing.

They sat miserably either looking at their food or something else, no one had anything to say that could make things better. It was soon night and Natasha decided to go to her bedroom, she didn't eat which was normal, she didn't feel like sitting there in an awkward silence.

She took a shower and went to bed, but it wasn't a pleasant sleep, she tossed and turned, another nightmare about the Red Room had entered her mind, nothing could switch them off.

She woke to hands holding her shoulders down "Clint?" She said hopefully but then realized it was Steve. She rushed out of hr bed and into the bathroom to wash her face, she looked at herself in the mirror with water treakling down her face and she saw Steve standing at the bathroom door looking concerned.

"How long has it been going on?" He asked, keep knew she had them before Clint's death, but it didn't happen that badly. Natasha couldn't be bothered lying to him, "a couple of weeks, haven't had a decent sleep since never" she said trying to wipe away the water.

Steve was worried for his friend, but knew she wouldn't answer anymore questions, "you gonna be okay?" He asked and Natasha looked at him in the mirror, "aren't I always" she said trying to smile, but it wasn't a real one, then all of a sudden her phone rang, she raced to her phone and answered in Russian.

Steve was confused, "what" she said in a frustrated tone, "we have a job for you" the man on the end of the line said. "I'm busy" she said, "you get a eight thousand dollars if you complete it."

Natasha thought about it for a moment, she needed the money so she could pay people for information, even though she had Tony and all the sources available to her. She had already done her findings legally, now she had to find information somewhere else.

"Fine, send me all the details and I will send details about where to put the money." She need the call and turned around to see the captain standing there with a very confused face staring at her.

"Relax Rogers, nothing to be concerned about" he nodded, Natasha sat on her bed lazily, "you can go back to sleep Rogers, I'm fine" she said trying to get rid of him do she could check her laptop.

He stood still contemplating and he was worried for her you could see it in his eyes, but he left, he walked out of the door and closed the door, but left it a little open so he could see what she was doing and Natasha rushed to her laptop which was sitting on her desk.

She sat in the chair and opened the laptop, went into her emails and sure enough there was all the info she needed, who the target was and where he was.

But she didn't know Steve was looking at what she was doing. She sent the details to her phone. Target: Michael Garton, location: Hotel Manor, NY. Level 8, room 64.

She grabbed a case which had her sniper rifle in it and she changed into a pair of black pants, black top with a leather black jacket and black boots.

Before she left, she sent details via email for the drop off, she preferred the money no to be electronically sent instead she sent details for where to meet.

Steve noticed that she was getting ready to leave so he jogged towards his room and went inside closing the door enough so she couldn't see him peeping through. She walked out silently like a ghost, she quickly ran to the elevator and Steve rushed out.

'Should I follow her' he thought to himself, he decided he should and he ran after her, when he saw her standing in front of the elevator he walked calmly next to her, "your not spying on me are you Rogers?" She asked, she looked at him.

"I got a call from Sam says it's urgent" he said with a confident tone. She nodded, she was focused on the task, the elevator doors opened and they both walked in and the doors closed, "where are you going?" Steve asked curiously, Natasha was a good liar, so it was no problem to come up with an excuse.

"Fury wants to talk to me" she stated, "at this time?" He asked, "you know Fury, gotta be available 24/7 just to be used at his expense" she said. Steve nodded.

He realized how good a liar she was, he thought of every conversation they had and thought if she ever lied then, he wouldn't know. They reached the garage and they both walked out.

Natasha went to her Corvette Stingray, and Steve got onto his bike. "Good luck" he said to Natasha, Natasha looked at him and smiled, "you know me Rogers, luck is stupid" he smiled at her.

She got into her car and drove away, Steve's face turned from the smile to a disappointed face, she lied to his face. He rode off after her, but kept a good decent of road between them.
