Spider in The Roses

A/N

If you are one of those people who like to listen to music while they read, this is the song I was listening to while I wrote this chapter. Just in case y'all want to get the vibe of it, lol.

The title of the song is: I Put a Spell On You by Annie Lennox.

Enjoy! :D

Jade's POV

As the redhead sauntered her way over to me, I took a moment to observe the expressions of the people around me. They obviously already knew, or at least expected, what was about to happen.

What they didn't know, is I hardly ever aimed for the expected.

Curiosity burned inside me. I wondered what they had decided but, either way, I was certain I was about to make an impression.

When Ginger finally got to me, she loitered on my side and leaned towards my ear. She whispered something that unconsciously made turn around to face an anxious Jesse, whose soothing mechanism was repeatedly pinching his neck.

Suddenly, an idea crossed my mind that prompted a devious smirk to form on my lips.

Looks like he hasn't completely ruined my fun, after all.

Silence reigned over the room and it was time for me to do what I did best. I had my game face on, which carried no real signs of emotion. I tilted my head and watched Jesse closely as he fiddled with his shirt.

Striding confidently towards the kitchen counter, I poured myself a drink, knowing fully that my stalling would just make the anticipation that much more painful for him. Taking a sip of my drink, I locked eyes with him and slowly licked my crimson red lips.

You see, when The Black Widow is on a hunt, she doesn't waste her energy going after her victim. Instead she waits patiently in her webs, displaying the unmistakable red markings that alert her potential objectives and predators that she is, indeed, extremely dangerous.

I was giving off such clear warnings for Jesse to escape and yet, he fell prey to the dangerous spark in my eyes and was now inevitably subjected to a trance-like state.

Guys have a tendency to underestimate me. That's why taking advantage of their stupidity becomes that much easier for me. It's not until my target is already dangling defenseless in my webs that I begin to make calculated moves and manipulate it, preparing it for the kill.

And the only thing they can do is watch, completely enthralled and filled with impotence.

I reached my arm out in Curly boy's direction and handed him my drink, without ever taking my eyes off my real victim. After a brief but painful pause, I prowled towards Jesse in a spellbinding manner, making a statement with each and every step I took.

Every single pair of eyes in the room was on me, and I knew it. Usually at this point my prey is utterly helpless and, what's worse, fully aware of it. I analyzed Jesse's expression as he stood there in front of me just as I anticipated, incapable of moving a muscle.

Those must have been the longest 5 minutes of his life.

I took yet another step, closing the distance between us. Our faces were so close I could distinctly feel how his breath hit my skin, the tension was virtually palpable. This is the part where they begin to understand just how in-deep they really are.

And yet they still refuse to see it.

I gave Jesse a tantalizing smile that made his eyes grow darker as he began to realize what was most likely about to happen. With a flawlessly calculated and pure stroke, I brought my hands to both sides of his neck, then slid them up to cup his cheeks.

Let's be real, he was totally capable of choosing not to step foot on my silky strings and instead he did what every single guy does - Ignore his basic survival instincts, just to follow his biological ones.

I gazed hypnotically into his eyes before leaning in for the kiss, witnessing how Jesse's eyes closed when our lips were practically brushing against each other.

But nothing happened.

I froze on the spot and smirked triumphantly as I watched my plan fall seamlessly into place.

God, they really bring it upon themselves, don't they?

***

A loud "slap" echoed around the room, filling in the silence that had once taken over.

I instinctively brought a hand up to my mouth when I realized I may have slapped Jesse a little too enthusiastically.  "That came out harder than I intended," I said, taking the hand away from my lips.

Did I regret it? Not really. But I did feel kind of sorry for him, especially when I watched him drop down to the ground in agony, with both his hands pressed against his left cheek.

As if that was going to ease the pain.

Jesse's eyes, which had been shut from the pain up till now, snapped open. He looked up at me wide eyed. "You think?"

I tried to hold in my snort. I really did.

"Wow, you sure seem overwhelmed with guilt." Sarcasm oozed out of his every word as he lifted himself up from the ground.

Before I could reply to Jesse's witty comment, I already had Curly's arm around my shoulder.

I gandered at him and smirked. "Anyway, thanks for the fun time... -" I twisted my mouth, trying to recall his name. Snapping my fingers a few times I said, "Don't tell me, I know it."

Jesse rolled his eyes.

He'd messed with me, of course I remembered his name. It was just funnier if he thought I didn't.

"That's it," I concluded. "Jason."

"Jesse."

"Same thing," I said, leaving him on his own and with a burning cheek.

Curly snickered at my comment as we strutted away.

He spun around to face me the moment we reached the dance floor. "Aren't you an interesting little thing?"

"If by interesting little thing you mean a 5'8 grown woman, then sure."

Curly hummed lowly. "Do you realize you had the whole room in a daze back there, Jade?"

I smirked and brought on the sarcasm. "No, Curly. I was completely oblivious to everyone around me."

He raised his eyebrows. "Curly?"

"I never caught your name."

"That's because I never got the chance to tell you." He granted me a boyish grin. "It's Sawyer."

"Great." A blank look fell on my face. "I'm bored, Sawyer."

He ogled at me in amazement. "How do you feel about dancing, then?" he said, flashing a charming grin.

"That I can get behind."

Apparently Curly assumed dancing was just a pretense for making out and wasted no time trying his luck on me.

I planted a hand on his mouth the second he lunged at me. "What do you think you're doing?"

"Don't you want to kiss me?" he asked in confusion.

"Did I lean in to kiss you?"

"Well, no..."

"There's your answer," I fired before he could finish.

Sawyer held my arm and traced a path up my skin to my bare shoulder. "C'mon, you don't have to play hard to get, you already have me wrapped around your finger."

"Stop groping," I said, harshly shoving his hand off of my shoulder.

That made him gawk at me wide eyed, but the guy didn't know when to give up.

With a stern glare, I got a tight grip of Sawyer's t shirt and pulled him close to my face. "It's never going to happen," I rebuked, then pushed his chest which made him stumble backwards. I faked a smile before marching off elsewhere.

This guy just doesn't know when to quit.

I caught him out the corner of my eye as he followed closely, almost catching up with me. You'd think having legs for days would be of some use in this type of circumstance.

To my relief, I caught sight of Liz talking to a blonde guy by the kitchen, which was a double reassurance for me. "Hey, Liz?" I said. "Creep alert."

She frowned and looked behind me to find Sawyer approaching us. "Didn't take him for that kind of guy." Liz gazed up at this boy with her entrancing ocean eyes. "A little help?"

He couldn't help but nod in compliance.

I sprung around, evidently annoyed at this idiot. "Did your parents not teach you what no means?"

Sawyer curled his lips into a cocky grin. "Oh come on, were having fun. I don't know why you got so worked up over nothing."

"I'm positive we have different perceptions of the definition of the word fun."

I tried to place my hands on my hips, but he was quick to grab onto one of them. "Fine, I'm sorry. Just dance with me, please?"

My body grew stiff in response to his touch, causing my sharp tone to cut straight through his lousy beg. "Don't. Touch. Me." I growled through gritted teeth.

Blondie finally stepped in as I shook Sawyer's paw off me. "I think she's made it pretty clear already, man," he said with an imposing step forward. "Just back off."

Sawyer's smirk faded away and a deep frown entrenched itself in his face instead. A weird vibe coming from him deeply irked me.

"Whatever," he said before stomping off.

I released the breath I didn't know I was holding, realizing I had stopped being myself for a split second. I could've sworn I was nervous.

Liz noticed my nauseated expression and briefly turned to look at Blondie. "Thank you, but I think we're going to leave now. Sorry," she said.

The guy appeared to be genuinely concerned. "Are you okay? You seem a little pale."

"I'm fine."

Liz grabbed my arm and dragged me outside. "Let's go."

***

Liz followed me into my room.

"That wasn't a total disaster," she said, running a hand through her hair.

I quietly agreed with her by raising my eyebrows and nodding.

"At least you got a little fun out of it," Liz pointed out.

Both, the thought of me slapping Jesse and remembering the look on his face, made me curl my lips into a smirk.

"That I did."

We both went silent for a second after that.

"Are you sure you're okay?" she asked worryingly.

My face was completely neutral as I started taking off my dress.  "I'm fine."

She clenched her jaw and shot me a questioning look.

"Stop staring me down," I said while I threw on a t-shirt. "I told you I'm okay."

"Fine." Liz smiled and raised her hands up in defeat. "But you know where my room is," she added before walking out, causing me to roll my eyes playfully at her buttheadedness.

I perched on the edge of my bed and stared blankly at the ground, immersing myself into my thoughts.

What happened tonight was a mere moment of weakness, but next time I sure as hell wasn't going to retreat.

If  there was a next time.

You guys don't even understand how much I enjoyed writing the slap scene, HAHA.

I remembered all of those scenes in NLP where Jade made Leon nervous and I just knew I needed to write moments like those in this book too. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it, Jade is a character with whom I can never get bored! LOL.

Anyway, so what do y'all feel about the characters so far? Do you like Jade? Or do you think she's too much of a bitch?

"Do I really need to make an appearance everytime you speak?"

*The author turns around reluctantly* "I was just asking! Literally just a second ago I was talking about how much I enjoy writing about you, I bet you didn't hear that, did you?" *The author stares Jade down*

*Jade tilts her head to the side* "You forget I have no emotions."

"And you forget I can kill you off any second, so sush." *The author turns back to face the reader*

Anyway guys I hope you liked this, bye!
