Title: Welcome to our freak show, come meet my monsters
Part 1
Today was the big day. The whole of Light Amethyst was buzzing with excitement that they could no longer contain. The famous Ethilev circus had finally arrived and was currently setting up in the middle of the realm.
News of the various talented members of this circus had spread all around the world and had everyone dying to meet them. So when news got out that they would be making a stop in the lowest of the land divisions, everyone there was overjoyed. It was not often that anything this big or exciting took place there.
Everyone was talking about it while doing their daily chores. They could not wait until the show began to see if the rumors were true.
What made this even more surprising was that the show was free. There was no excuse not to come seeing as everyone had already cleared their schedule in advance for this event. From children to the elderly, everyone was interested.
What people failed to take note of however, was the change in the atmosphere. It was not alarming, but there was a lingering scent mixed in with the pure ambiance. Although the people did not realize anything wrong, the animals certainly did.
Birds were flying away from the country's center and the dogs and cats were a little bit chattier than usual. Their howls and meows crying out as if something was coming. Unfortunately, no one paid attention to them as they were all in a hurry to finish their day's tasks.
The sun was unusually bright but the place remained cool even though there was little to any breeze. Something was definitely not right and was desperately trying to warn everyone. Even the streams and rivers were not their usual light pinkish colour, but slightly darker.
A little lady, maybe eighteen or nineteen, who lived on the outskirts of the realm was the only one not affected by this circus. She paid no attention to it at all and did not seem to understand what all the hype about it was. To her, it was just another circus.
When she went to collect water from a stream near her home, she was shocked at the change in colour. She collected some in her bucket and sniffed it. There was no strange smell and no one but her used this stream, so what could have caused this?
She also realized that there were more animals in the woods than there used to be. "Maybe a drought was coming," she thought, "that would explain the weather."
Not wanting to take any chances with this strange water, she decided to use the remainder of yesterday's water and go searching for a new water stream.
She returned to her home to grab some fruits and some water before proceeding to search for a new water source. Hopefully it would not take her long to do so, because she had plants to water when she was done.
Around an hour or two had passed and she still had not managed to find another source. She did not want to go far, because that means the distance would be longer for her to travel with buckets of water.
Just as she was about to head home, she heard an animal cry out in pain. She thought about helping it, but the animal no longer cried, so there was no point. Just as she was about to start walking again, she heard voices chanting.
This peaked her interest because she thought she was the only human who stayed in those parts. Allowing her curiosity to get the best of her, she slowly inched towards the chanting.
Perhaps she has never heard the phrase curiosity killed the cat.
Her heart was pounding in her chest as she did not know what to prepare herself for. She just wished that it was just some people who lost their way and ended up lost there.
The closer she got, her fear intensified. Hiding behind some thick bushes, she observed what was taking place.
Her heart immediately sunk when she saw two dead rabbits surrounded by some kind of symbol made out of blood. Around the symbol were three masked figures, who were all chanting something. For some reason she could hear their voices clearly, yet she was still unable to apprehend what they were saying. She was also unable to distinguish their genders from their voices and appearances.
Everything about what she was witnessing did not sit well with her. She knew that whatever they were up to, it could not be good. What she did know, was that she was going to figure out what they were planning.
