      SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINES, Minako Saito lost the gold that followed her name. She was supposed to be their gilded girl, the hopeful face for future Olympics, and the golden girl who was going to make the world hers. But there were no more stars, no more glitter, and no more hope that could right the wrongs she has created for herself. And for someone who has always been this image of perfection, meant fixing the damaged relationship she has with her partner, even if he had broken her heart, even if she had caught him with another girl just hours after he held her hands tightly in his and smiled at her like she was everything. It was her need to be golden that landed her injury, one serious enough to leave her out of the season and back home to rehabilitate and clear her mind. The glory, the spotlight, the attention, all of it gone in a matter of seconds.

      Even then, there is no peace in the town she once thought of as home. She was no longer the gilded girl she once was, she was ordinary and dull, not the elegant swan on ice, but one who has lost her wings. And the weight on her shoulders only grew worse, the knots in her stomach that beg for another chance to prove that she is enough, only for the harsh realization that there are no second chances for the once glorious. She can give fake smiles, she was used to doing it, she can dance around the subject and act like she isn't dying from not being on the ice. But there's no hiding that something is off about the girl with a million golden smiles.

      However, there is a light in the form of her charming-volleyball fanatic idiot of an older brother, an excuse she uses to justify her stay and her early retirement from the career that made her the golden girl. What came with her brother is a line of teammates who didn't hesitate to baby her. It wasn't long until she became a swan in a murder of crows and grew familiar with the notion: adapt or fall, a way of life she had grown too familiar with, but one that is disgraceful for the fallen. A pathetic way to live, a coward's way of life.

      There may never be a chance for her to get all of that back. No chance of her ever reaching the same glory that circled her name or gaining the starry glint in her eyes once more. But even then, maybe gilded girls don't need the glamor and stars to be golden. And somehow Daichi Sawamura ignites something greater than anything she's ever felt before and makes her heart race even if he was only supposed to be her brother's best friend.

      And as infuriating and kind as he may be, perhaps he's right about one thing . . .

      Black swans can be just as surprising and beautiful.

A/N;

LADIES AND GENTS WE ARE FINALLY HERE! Okay so I'm totally late to the party and I finally watched Haikyuu! and wow, okay, so here I am with a fic of course. But God, I have been working so hard on this, I literally rewrote the summary three times but that's beside the point!

Originally this was going to be a Kageyama fic but then I started feeling extra soft towards Daichi and after a lot of convincing (almost none) from eI it became a fic for our dear captain!

This fic is dedicated to eI because we literally bounce ideas off of each other and literally she is my domestic!daichi stan and she allows me to spam her with all my headcannons for Mina and Daichi and I love her so much??????
