Chapter 2: Recordings
The day after Emily's disappearance, her parents had filed a missing person's report. She didn't come home that night, and no one had seen her that morning, either. There were police sent to the school, looking around for any clues into her disappearance and interrogating students. Kinzie and Zoe were talked to as well, but since they were good liars, they got off scot free with murder. It took two weeks of disruption for things to get back to normal, where the police gave up their investigation after zero evidence turned up that could help them. The two had covered up their tracks well enough that nothing was discovered. Emily's belongings were included in the incineration, and she didn't have a bag when she went behind the school to meet with Kinzie. In the very end, only a missing person's report is what was left. The parents couldn't even hold a funeral because the body was destroyed. While they were completely devastated at their loss, Kinzie was feeling satisfied with herself, having removed a rival. Zoe was watching over her, but her secret was that she wanted Matt for herself, and just needed Kinzie's help to get rid of Emily under the façade of helping her out. It didn't go entirely to plan, but she just needed to stay patient. She has other plans to be made, and time will tell if she can put them into motion, much less go well...
"Missing: Emily Fey. Age: 18. Last seen: Shujin Academy, 5:00 PM. No witnesses have seen her since her disappearance. Belongings were not found. To anyone who may have information on her, please contact the police and assist us in finding her." Matt was watching a report on Emily's disappearance at home, having gotten home after classes ended. He tried not thinking about it, but it just seemed too difficult since she was his ex. He turned off the television, leaving the house in complete silence. He lived alone, because his parents were abroad to... deal with a few things. They left Matt enough money to get through the year, so he didn't really mind. To get his head off the issue, he decided he needed to let it out. He grabbed his phone, and turned on the recorder, about to make an audio log. "Testing, testing, one-two..." He checked to see if it was working properly. "Well, looks like I've got one of these... Emily's dead, and now I have to deal with it... I know they haven't confirmed she's dead, but at this point, it just seems obvious, doesn't it?" His voice sounded low. "It's j-just... How did this happen? I mean, I might actually have someone I could accuse, since, well, Kinzie's been acting weird since, well, after Emily died, she... She just seemed a lot more normal, a lot more stable compared to before that, when I noticed that time she saw me with Emily. After, well, after the incident, she seemed a lot more calm, I mean, sure, she still scribbles in that notebook of hers a lot, but... I don't know, something doesn't feel right. Something is not right in this school, or academy or something. Not sure. Well, whatever it is, at least... At least I've got this thing to help me out. I've got recordings, gotta start recording my thoughts every now and then... Maybe it'll do my sanity some help." He ended the audio log and saved it, retitling it "audiolog1". Seems he'll be doing those more often...
The next day, things were looking much brighter unlike the past two and a half weeks. School atmosphere was better, and people were chatting with each other again. Seems they've let the memory fade away. Kinzie went straight to the locker room while Matt was trying to find his group. Unfortunately, they weren't there for the day, they had something planned instead but never gave Matt the memo, as he was busy straightening himself out yesterday, what with all the recordings and slight paranoia. So, he just relaxed, dropping the tough aura just for the day. Time passed by slowly, classes taking ever the hour to finish each. Lunchtime rolled around, and since Matt only ever eats sandwiches half the time and still avoids starvation somehow, he got to the fountain area early, only to find Kinzie was already in her spot, notebook and pen in her hands with a lunchbox next to her. Matt didn't mind, sitting in one of the benches and leaning his head backward, shutting his eyes. Kinzie noticed him, and with Matt resting, she was free to keep writing down her fantasies without being judged by him. She quickly took to letting her imagination run free in her notebook, jotting down notes that switched between simple descriptions to flat-out fanfictions that would probably get her kicked off a site if she posted them. While doing so, she ate some food every now and then. Eventually, when she had enough material, she left the area to find somewhere private to start drooling over the thoughts she spilled in the notebook among other things. When she left, Alex, a different student, walked into the area and saw Matt asleep. Remembering what she does when she finds him like that, she snuck behind the bench, poked her head out right next to Matt's, and... "WAKE UP SLEEPYHEAD!!!" She yelled straight into Matt's ear, causing him to jump up with a scream and look behind him, a very angry look in his face. "What the hell!? Why!?" He shouted at Alex, who just creeped back under the bench and disappeared somehow. Matt, still agitated, slammed back down on the bench. He was trying to get some rest but then Alex went and ruined it. "Ugh..." He stood back up and walked away, unaware that this time, someone was watching, but it wasn't Kinzie...
