Chapter 9: The crowning (3) 🖤💛❄️

As the mystical bell rings across the frosty expanse, its tune resonates like a melody from the heavens, summoning the North Pole’s citizens, the Ice Kingdom’s denizens, and visitors from far-off lands. The sprawling courtyard outside the Ice Queen’s palace buzzes with life and anticipation as the crowd flows in like a river of color and light.

The air sparkles with enchantment as men and women from every corner of the magical realms gather for the grand coronation.

Among the crowd, the North Pole women dazzle with their festive splendor. Their gowns shine in vibrant holly-berry red, each adorned with cascading layers of shimmering snowflake embroidery and twinkling lights. Puffy sleeves flow into delicate sheer fabrics embellished with golden and green details, blending holiday cheer with elegance. The high shine of their fabrics reflects the soft glow of the icy lanterns lining the path to the dais, making the women look as though they carry the magic of Christmas itself.

Conversely, women from the Ice Kingdom glide through the crowd like frost on a still winter morning, their gowns mirroring the beauty of their homeland. Frosted blue fabrics shimmer in the ambient light, while silver snowflake embroidery and frosted gemstones create the illusion of icy splendor. With crystal tiaras atop their heads and frosty mist flowing at the hem of their gowns, they appear as winter’s royalty, exuding glacial grace.

The men, too, command attention in their regal holiday-inspired coats. Each tailored to perfection, the glossy red fabrics and intricate snowflake patterns evoke the merriment of the season. Snow-white faux fur trims the collars and cuffs, while black belts with golden buckles add a touch of tradition and warmth to their ensembles. They stand tall and proud, embodying the festive spirit of the North Pole and beyond.

As the crowd mingles, the courtyard transforms into a mesmerizing sea of green, red, white, and blue. North Pole citizens and Ice Kingdom denizens exchange greetings, their laughter mingling in the crisp air. Festive reds and greens blend with frosted blues, creating a living tapestry of holiday magic and wintry elegance. From towering reindeerfolk wrapped in icy silver to merry, diminutive elves in sparkling gold, the diversity of beings gathered here speaks to the unity of this grand occasion.

The ceremonial path glows softly under the light of frosty lanterns, guiding the attendees toward the icy dais where the thrones await. The anticipation swells as Santa and the Ice Queen make their appearance, their regal presence casting a spell of awe over the crowd.

As the coronation begins, the kaleidoscope of festive colors and magical attire reflects the spirit of unity and celebration, a moment where traditions blend seamlessly into a shared future.

ael leans against the door, his legs drawn in. He stares lifelessly into the distance. The dark circles around his eyes shows how hard he's cried...how broken he is.

A soft knock on the door pulls him back to reality. He wasn't thinking about anything. He was just blank and tired.

With heavy eyes, he manages to stand up with the little strength he had left...they were no more tears left to cry.

He got up and opened the door. His face showed little emotion as he saw Mrs. Claus behind the door with a show of concern. She had a book clutched to her, and a necklace with a small transparent gem wrapped around the other.

“ My poor boy,” She quickly reached for him as she saw her blank and defeated he looked.

She pulled him close and hugged him tightly.

“ Aren't you supposed to be in the ceremony?,” Kael asked.

“ I just really had to give you this,” She sat him down.
Mrs. Claus gently released the black-covered book with its worn yellow pages, her fingers lingering for a moment before handing it to Kael.

“What’s this?” Kael asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

“This book belonged to your mother,” Mrs. Claus said softly, her hand brushing across the cover as if tracing long-lost memories. Her eyes glistened, distant thoughts pulling her back to a time she rarely spoke of.

Kael’s heart twisted in his chest. Excitement, fear, and a pang of longing all collided within him. This was the first time anyone had mentioned his parents. He had buried the thought so deeply that he had almost forgotten he was adopted.

He cradled the book like a fragile treasure, his hands trembling slightly. For a moment, he simply stared at it, the weight of its significance sinking in. And then, unexpectedly, a small smile broke across his face—a smile he thought he’d never feel again.

Mrs. Claus’s lips curled into a gentle smile of her own. Seeing the spark of hope in Kael’s eyes filled her with quiet relief.

Without a word, she reached into her hand and unraveled the delicate chain she had been holding. Lifting it into the light, the necklace shimmered like fresh-fallen snow.

“Wow,” Kael breathed, his gaze transfixed on the pure, radiant piece of jewelry.

He opened up his palm and she dropped the necklace on it. The jewelry made Kael tingle and shiver a little. He shut his palm tightly and placed it near his side.

He took the book and opened it... expecting the secrets and desires of his late mother. But when he flipped through the pages...it was empty. It was lacking.

His excitement faded. “ Why is it empty?,” Kael asked softly- his searching eyes getting dimmer.

“ I honestly don't know,” Mrs. Claus answered. “ When we were friends-”

“-you were friends?,” Kael asked softly- his lips curling into a warm smile.

“ Yes. The best of friends,” Mrs. Claus answered softly.

“ What happened?,” Kael asked expectantly.

Mrs. Claus hesitated. She knows Santa forbade anyone from telling him anything about his past. But she was tired of seeing the boy cry. She knew he was emotionally and mentally drained. He was dying slowly inside.

She couldn't take it anymore. It's time he was treated like a normal human being...she thought.

“ You know what,” she placed her hands on his. “ When I get back from the ceremony, I'm going to tell you everything you need to know,” she smiled.

Kael managed to smile as she cupped his cheeks. She stood and walked to the door. She glanced at him before she left.

As the door shut, Kael took the book in his hands. He tilted his head as he examined the book.

But subtly, the walls in his room were cracking.... Was Santa right to keep him in the dark?
