Chapter 19: The staff of the Oak (1) 🖤💛❄️
.....The aurora borealis glows as Kael passes through. With heaved breaths, the Claus family watch in horror as Kael makes his way through the aurora borealis.
Santa gets off his feet, his coat covered in snow. He sighs and shakes his head...his breathing still heaving.
He looks back at Edward and his wife. They looked a little terrified. But what bothered Santa was the fact Kael already had the jewel of the ice. Which is crazy to him because the ice queen is the most protective and probably the strongest person he knows. So how can a boy who just discovered his powers have the upper hand.
" He has the jewel of the ice now," Santa said as he looked up at the aurora borealis that was settling. " He's after the staff of the oak. Damn it!"
" Wait...if he has the jewel of the ice. Doesn't that mean that there's a possibility he might have killed the ice queen and Layla?," Edward asked. Santa looked at him. The possibility was extremely possible.
" We go there now," Santa said. " Ready the sleigh!," He ordered as he took Mrs.claus by the hand to get her warm and ventured into his manor.

Layla's still under the ruble. She's emotional drained. Her eyes are dried with tears. Her heart is as shattered glass. She stares at the her mother who's now a heap of black snowflakes.
She struggles to get her hands free. With a sobbing grunt, she wriggles her hand out of the boulder on it. She winced once her hand is free.
She places her hand on the large boulder on top of her and turns it into ice. Then she shatters it. Once the the big one was off her, the rest we're no problem.
She hurried to her mother. She knelt down and sobbed uncontrollably. She clutched her chest. Her heart was in pain.
Just then, Santa, Edward and Mrs Claus come rushing in. The broken doors, cracked walls and the pile of ruble confirmed that of a truth....Kael was here. And he did some damage.
They slowly approached Layla who just knelt there and tears just rolling down her cheeks.
" Layla," Santa called softly.
" He took away my mother," Layla said with a blank face.
" She isn't gone," Santa said softly. " His father has done something like this to many people before. It's reversible," Santa comforted.
" Where is Kael now?," Layla asked...her voice cracked.
" He's going after the staff of the oak," Santa said.
Layla sniffled. She swirled her hands around the heap of black snow and housed it an orb of ice. She picks it up and gets on her feet. She turns to Santa and says:" You brought your sleigh right?"
" Yes," Santa answered.
" Then we go after him," She said and walks past him.
" What about your people?," Santa asked.
" They'll thank me when I come back with his head," Layla said as she made her way out of the damaged throne room....her voice mixed with regret, anger and determination.

There a loud swooshing sound as Kael descends. He lands with a heavy thud as the light vanishes. The icy wind blew violently. It was cold and skin piercing. He covers his head with the cap of cloak. He squints his eyes as he scans the environment.
Single family homes with roofs covered in snow. Christmas lights wrapped around the houses. And other festive decorations to complete the look and give you that festive, christmasy feel.
" Come," Kael patted on the monsters head. The monster let out a low growl before following after Kael.
As they got closer, Kael observed the spaces between homes (alleys) and passed through them. He didn't want to draw attention to himself just yet.
Cautiously, he tip toed through the alleys...his back slightly pressed against the wall. As he got closer into the city, he could hear voices. Chatters.... He peaked through and saw humans in their normal casualness. " hmmm," he squinted his eyes. He looked down and saw an animal on a leash. He had a thought. If he didn't want to draw attention...he had to look like them....he had to blend in.
He drew himself back into the alley. He turned to the monster and walked to it with folded lips. " I'm gonna have to transform you into a dog," Kael said and sucked his teeth.
The monster disapproved with a growl and retreated back.
" Only! For a while," Kael quickly stopped him. LL " After we find....after I find the staff of the oak I'll turn you back. Okay?"
The monster let out an uncertain low growl. Kael gave a pleading look. The monster growled in acceptance. Kael leaped and clapped his hands: " Wonderful!," he said excitedly.
He place his hands under the monster's chin. His powers twinkled as the monster turns into a German shepherd.
Kael steps back and observes. He then tilts his head and smiles. " Perfect" He then waved his hands over his body... changing his costume to a causal black sweater that had yellow fur around it's collar, black pants and shoes. And his Golden eyes were now brown.
He walked out the alley with the monster on a leash. He looked around to make sure nobody noticed. And then he pretended everything was normal and nothing out of the ordinary was happening....yet.
And with that, he joined the festivities. It turned out he was in a market place. The space wasn't really wide. Infact, the houses were very close to each other...and the road was a slope.
Kael looked around in wonder. He was deeply fascinated. Lights we're hanged above them looking like ropes. Every was beaming with joy as they chattered with each other. Kael was touched to see such harmony. Such unity within people. But what got him was when he saw kids running and playing with each other.
Some kids built snowmen and hurled snowballs at each other. Kael let out a soft laugh. He looked forward and he saw a kid with her parents. They family looked happy. Kael froze. His heart sank.
He wished he experienced family love instead of isolation. But Kael was happy for the young child. Tears were evening forming in his eyes. But he quickly wiped it before it rolled down he's cheek.
The monster, feeling his despair, nudged his leg... offering some sort of comfort. Kael looked down and smiled. Then he rubbed the monsters forehead.
" Come on, enough feelings. We've got work to do," He said as he sniffled and wiped his nose. His voice laced with determination.
