Neeki's shed was in the middle of the case, smushed between the Bowtruckle habitat. Her paws came out before her head did. She felt the air on her paws before she stuck her nose out, then her head out. She looked both ways and sniffed the air, then prowled toward Newt's shed.
She pushed against the door with the top of her head, then walked inside, swishing her tail back and forth. She hopped onto Newt's bed and nudged against Newt's thigh, shoving him over.
Newt mumbled incoherent words, then scooted over. She crawled on top of him and licked his chin, purring at the back of her throat.
He patted down her head, flattening her ears. "Good girl, Neeki. Good girl," he muttered sleepily.
She purred again, nudging her nose affectionally against his face. Then, she turned back into a human. Newt sighed, patting her head.
"Sleep, Neeki."
She pouted, but listened to him anyway. She moved off of him and curled up against his side, but she couldn't find a comfortable position.
Newt pulled her up so that her head was on the pillow and not nudging against his waist. He put part of the blanket over her body.
She was wearing shorts and a sweater, but she didn't like the material of the sweater. She was used to the wild and being naked. Even after two years of living with Newt and him teaching her how to be human, she preferred to be a wild animal.
He found her in Southeast Asia. He was originally looking for a rumored Zouwu, but found Neeki instead. She was being hunted by poachers, but Newt saved her and brought her inside his case when he saw she had injuries.
He tended to her injuries and let her rest. He checked on her the next day, but instead of finding an animal, he found a human.
Since then, he taught her how to read and how to behave. Eventually, he gave her a name. Neeki had no recollection of how she became the way she was.
