Chapter ThirtySix - Magic Is Magic.

REMUS' POV.
The game continued like nothing had happened; Luckily, as I was glad no one could feel or now cared to notice how my palms were damp with sweat and how my lips tingled with rushing blood flow. My heart was thumping against my chest and I could only hope that I was coming across completely calm. I felt terrified.

James was frowning at me, not paying attention to the game that continued, after Arty abruptly left without explanation. I'd leave to if I was a newbie to the game, especially after witnessing what everyone was being dared to do. I wasn't surprised, she was probably worried she'd have to lock lips with someone too. It's been a reoccurring theme and Jax was relentless when it came to sticking by the rules.

I mouthed a small "what?" at James who was widening his eyes in a cold glare, every time I tried to ignore his gaze. I felt irritated by his stares, why wasn't he ignoring what just happened like everyone else? I needed him to, for my own sanity.

"Go find her." He whispered in my ear. We were now sat next to each other because of the empty space Arty had left.

"Why?" I asked and he looked at me sternly, much like how your Mum looks at you when you've forgotten to take the food out from the freezer like she had asked. He was disappointed in me.

Disappointed and obviously ready to fight me on how aloof I was probably acting. Hopefully acting that is, I didn't want people to sense my fear.

I sighed and pulled myself up from the floor before he could get the chance to; knowing he's stubborn enough to ignore all reason until he gets his own way.

"Sorry guys, I can't hold in this chilli punch anymore" I fake laughed and excused myself.

"Yeah me neither! Really gotta piss!" James said bluntly, making Lily grimace and joined me by standing and shoving us through the crowd and out of the portrait hole.

"What was that all about?" I said defensively.

"No, what was THAT all about, Remus?" James dramatically motioned towards the portrait hole and back into the room. The fat lady listening in to our conversation.

"It was just a dare." I rolled my eyes at him.

"I'm not on about the fucking dare...well kind of." He sighed and ran his hand through his curly black hair.

"Not appropriate language, boys" The fat lady sung.

"This isn't a conversation you're involved in!" James hissed at her.

"Drama, drama. First the crying girl and now you two. Raging hormones." She laughed.

My head snapped towards her. I understood why James had pulled me out, if the crying girl was who I thought it was. I had let my internal confusion just cloud all sense I have.

"Who was crying?" I asked.

"Lady Sirius. Uncontrollable tears. Wouldn't listen to a word I had to say." she rolled her eyes thinking about it.

"Lady Sirius?" Both James and I repeated. We looked at each other knowing the fat lady meant none other than Artemis Black.

"Where did she go?" James said protectively. I knew he was about to hunt her down, I didn't want to follow him. The fat lady pointed up one of the staircases. Small and winding.

James began marching up them without any hesitation. I stayed put, glued and frozen in my spot. Feeling sick with nerves, my head wasn't in the right place right now to console someone else and Merlin knows what she was weeping over.

"Oh no Moony, you're coming with me. We're fixing this, just like you had insisted that day at hogsmead. We're not ignoring her, not this time." He shot his eyebrows up at me.

I didn't fight him on it, with how rarely James got truly angry it was always mildly terrifying when he did.

I didn't know why he was suddenly being a better friend to her than I was, in some ways I felt ashamed to face her. I knew why I felt ashamed to face her, for more reasons than being a poor friend momentarily, I had some other ideas as to why but none of them made absolute sense to me yet.

With a deep inhale of cold castle air, I reluctantly followed him up the stairs, until we reached a small landing. Which connected with...

"The stairs to the old astrology tower. I thought the Gryffindor entrance was blocked off?" I questioned out loud.

"The castle opens itself to people in need. She needs us, Moony!" James said surprisingly wise.

I chewed on my bottom lip as we dragged ourselves up the ridiculous number of stairs. My legs felt heavier than usual. I've made this journey many times before, the old astrology tower being somewhere of silent safety for me. With all the chaos that's happened in the last eight weeks though...I haven't had time or energy to come up and reflect like I usually would.

I could feel specs of blood escape my opened scar on my bottom lip and I licked it away...the tingling sensation from Sirius' mouth on mine still lingering. Why was this bothering me so much? I hated myself for it.

We both finally reached the top of the tower, the door was slightly left open. The whistling sound of the wind escaping through the door crack, was intimidating. As I was about to approach it, James held out his arm in front of me and mumbled to me to stay put and silently listen. He gently knocked on the door and stepped out onto the balcony.

"James, you scared me!" I heard Arty sniffle. My breath felt heavy in my chest as I felt unsure about what to do or why I was even here.

"It's Halloween, I'm just doing my job!" he laughed.

"You shouldn't be here, you should be down at the party. I'll be okay, just being a little silly." Arty spoke, her voice sounding deeper down to probably being sore from crying,

"Who says I shouldn't be here and who says a party that I've experienced before is more important than a friend?" I could imagine his pouted smile, sweet talking with a cheeky expression. Like he always did when trying to cheer someone up.

"Tell me James, I answered the question once for you. It's time for you to repay me. Am I being a fool?" Arty asked. I was confused, a frown finding it's way onto my face.

A fool, over what? Why would she be asking such questions and when had James asked her if he was too?

"Have you finally realised?" James said to her. It was like they were speaking in riddles, never actually addressing the subject but knowing exactly what the other was implying. There was no reply, or at least perhaps there was but it was nonverbal.

"Don't hate me but too many times I should have spoken to Lily about how I feel, but spoke to someone else when things felt hard. I'm giving you the chance I never was given" James said. There was a pause.

"James?" Arty warned.

Suddenly the door was flung open wide. Thankfully I hadn't been stupid enough to lean against it, otherwise I would have toppled onto the floor of the balcony. Instead I stayed stiff and silent against the wall. Out of sight, but before I knew it James' hand reached around the corner and dragged me by the scruff of my jumper onto the balcony with them.

I awkwardly smiled at Arty and did a small wave. She turned away from me and was about to leave entirely without a word before James swooped in and blocked the door. His arms and legs spread wide to barricade us both from leaving.

"Don't hate me." He repeated to Arty, before slamming the door shut on us both and hearing the lock click into place.

"Speak about your feelings!" We heard him muffled through the door.

"James I swear to Merlin, open the door. Arty hates being locked somewhere. Trust me." I warned him, banging my closed fist on the door. Reliving the time I had locked her in the dorm with me, trying to do exactly what James was doing now. She hated it.

"No can do, Moony! A charm has been set. I'm gonna leave but you two have to get whatever is in your system out in order to! Magic is magic I'm afraid!" He shouted before we could hear him run down the first couple of steps. Then we were both left in uncomfortable silence, not facing each other.

(Filler chapter, what are you thoughts? How are you feeling? I don't think Rem or Art know either! A charm has been set for you to vent in the comments, you can't leave without doing so)
