Chapter FortyFive- One At A Time.
"Surely you must have another hobby other than hanging out with dusty books all day?" Sonny asked, rolling his eyes at me.
"I told you, I don't! What's yours anyway since you're being all judgey?" I asked him while mimicking his rolled eyes, aiming at him being so dramatic about the subject.
"Quidditch, obviously."
"You're on the team then?" I asked trying to sound interested, though James and Frank killed off my enjoyment for it a little by how much they discuss it.
"Yeah, I keep Slytherin strong, if I do say so myself. The others won't admit it, but I'm the best." He winked.
"I'll believe that when I see it." I bantered.
"So come see it then, next week we're practicing for the game against Hufflepuff. I'll expect to see you in the stands watching." He invited me along to his practice, smirking.
I accepted reluctantly, knowing he probably wouldn't let me say no without a fight.
"You're mates with Potter aren't you? He's a good player. Got a few members of the team scared to face you lot after Christmas." He admitted.
"Oh really? I missed the last game between you both...actually I've missed all of the games. I thought he must've been all talk." I laughed.
He let out a big sigh, hanging his head back for a second.
"I wish, the kids got talent. That's good though, fearing him might make the others step up their game. Easy to start slacking when you can easily beat everyone. Having no competition gets boring." He laughed cheekily.
I playfully whacked him on the shoulder with the book I was holding for implying Slytherin was the best house. A healthy competitive streak finding its way into me.
We both were wandering around the library trying to return a book I had borrowed last week before the half term. Struggling to find its dedicated spot, not quite understanding the libraries organisation system.
I don't read much, a healthy amount but not excessively, obviously Sonny had presumed I had my head in a book constantly because of the trip.
That or he wasn't one to wander into the library unless dragged. Much like today.
He's been a great help over the past couple of days. Keeping me company and making me laugh. It's been nice to make a friend off of my own merit, and not because I had been introduced to anyone by someone else.
"This is boring, just put the book wherever and let's go!" He groaned as he stole the book from my hand and held it high above my head.
He wasn't much taller than I was though, so I easily yanked the book back down from his grasp, with a small jump.
"Honestly I'm going to die with boredom...Yeah, I feel it coming, tell Lucius to suck a fat one. Tell my mum she's cool. Never tell Potter I said he was good at quidditch, his head might explode with confidence." he said dramatically as he literally fell to the library floor with a thump.
I looked around with worry that we were going to be chucked out. Fearing any confrontation that he might cause.
I grabbed his arm and tried pulling him up, trying to contain my laughter like a little kid. Laughing out of nervousness and how ridiculous he was behaving, Begging him to get up, quite literally pleading but he was a complete dead weight.
He opened one eye, though still played dead like a trained dog.
"Sometimes the Prince needs to be kissed awake too, don't be sexist!" He said aggressively, though I knew in a playful way because of the smirk finding its way onto his face.
I laughed and told him no, but he wouldn't budge.
Way too heavy for me to lift up, I didn't know what to do, and I could hear the librarians shoes scuffing closer and closer to observe the commotion.
I was internally screaming as Sonny looked like he had no issue with the idea of being chucked out.
"She's gonna catch us!" he sung, a smile dancing on his face as he led, eyes closed. The sound of the librarians feet sounding closer and closer, all whilst he still pretended to be unconscious.
I quickly fell to my knees and pressed my lips to his without thinking, giggling like a child whilst doing it and finally he raised from the floor with ease, grabbing my hand and dragging me around the corner to avoid being seen.
He wiped his mouth clean childishly.
"I said a kiss, not laugh on my face! Pretty sure you just spat on me; hope you don't have a disease because if I catch it...it's the forbidden forest for you!" He warned sarcastically, wagging his finger at me.
Though innocent, I couldn't believe I had actually (though terribly and quick) kissed him. The move out of character for me.
I had abandoned the book on the floor, where we had both ran away from. I was praying that I wouldn't be called back and questioned because of it.
We both sprinted from the spot Sonny had dragged me to, laughing while escaping out of the library and down a number of halls until our blood stopped pumping with excitement.
I found myself pressed up against the cold stone wall, out of breath.
Sonny paced in front of me, catching his own, hands on hips and childishly grinning at me.
We stood like that for a while until our breathing evened.
"I want to kiss you, for real. Not just messing about. Thoughts?" He said causally.
I felt my eyes widen with shock at his blunt honesty.
Often finding his bluntness amusing, now all of a sudden intense. Though his mannerisms didn't mimic the intensity his words were implying. They were calm and relaxed. Not an ounce of anxiety radiating from him.
I shook my head, though my face still held the fun smile it refused to let go of.
"Who's the lucky guy then?" He teasingly asked, not reacting negatively from the rejection but being curious and observant to see there was someone else.
Remus instantly appeared to mind. I didn't try to ignore it this time, sick of lying to myself. Ignoring how I felt got me in too many messes already.
"It doesn't matter, he doesn't like me like that anyway so," I shrugged, trying to play it cool,
"So, you need to get over him right?" He questioned. I nodded in agreement.
I did, I had come to that conclusion that night at the tower. At the time it almost felt impossible, but over the past couple of days it's felt easier. Probably because I couldn't see Remus, or talk to him.
It was just a silly crush. Something to easily overcome with a bit of time and distraction.
Remus wasn't interested in me and I didn't want to force him, I didn't want to upset Sirius too- though he's with Marlene.
It all seems like too much of a complicated situation to involve myself in. A situation I didn't belong in.
"Well, I'd be willing to help you." Sonny said. Finding a seated position on the window ledge opposite me. Resting one leg up, with the other just touching the floor.
"Help me?" I questioned, slightly furrowing my eyebrows by the vagueness. I had an idea what he implied but I didn't want to presume.
"I enjoy spending time with you Arty. I'm a little older, I know. If you can see past the fact I'm a Slytherin in Narcissa's year, I'd love to hang out sometime." He said.
"We are hanging out?" I replied. He laughed at my naivety.
"As more than friends. Potentially." He said with the same childish grin he has.
I felt my face go hot and embarrassed, but I laughed and shrugged my shoulders.
What have I got to lose? Perhaps this was the perfect opportunity to experience more than I have and get over the thought of being potentially more than friends with Remus.
In all honesty, this was a good thing. Relationships in friend-groups seemed far too complicated. Perhaps this was an opportunity I couldn't say no to? Presenting itself to me at a time I needed it.
"Sure, why not!" I laughed and he looked at me genuinely surprised.
He tucked his dark hair behind his ears. Floppy and straight, with a centre parting. Ear length but short at the sides. He batted his light blue eyes at me playfully and walked closer to where I stood. My heart rate started increasing awfully. Not knowing what his intentions were or what I had just agreed to. It felt as if I was glued against the wall.
Then...he hugged me and didn't linger. I looked at him confused, as he pulled away.
"Over stepping one boundary at a time, at a pace you're comfortable with! Don't worry, I have more respect than to pounce on you now." He laughed at my reaction.
"Oh okay!" I laughed out embarrassed and fixed my confused expression.
"I have a question though," He began, rubbing his hand gently on my shoulder and picking up the jumper fabric between his fingers.
"-do you own other clothes, or do you need me to give you something else to wear?" He teased.
I looked down at the green jumper I've been wearing all week...Remus'.
Suddenly I felt like I shouldn't be wearing it more than I felt already with it on.
I was starting to 'hang out' with a boy who wanted to get to know me as more than a friend. Here I was standing in another boys jumper I had been attached to since he had left.
"It's just warm and I'd thought you'd appreciate the colour!" I joked as it was green, hiding the guilt I felt. I'd return the jumper under Remus' bed tonight, like James suggested.
Sonny let go of the fabric and tucked a piece of my hair behind my ear, like he did his own. It tickled and I felt a blush creep onto my face because of it. Never experiencing someone move my hair so delicately before.
I felt excited and felt a comfort in knowing Sonny was very blunt and to the point. I didn't have to think too hard in his presence.
(Oh dear, how the tables have turned. Arty no longer has competition when it comes to Remus, but Remus now has competition when it comes to gaining Arty's attention. Thoughts?)
