Chapter FiftyFour- Insults.
(Trigger for slurs + bullying: not giving anything away but an intense chapter, just be aware. Also sorry for any mistakes, didn't have time to proof read.)
"-And Peter told me that in Switzerland Pixies are purple, is that true? Do you know?" James rambled on to Lily and Frank who casually strolled next to me.
I zoned out of the conversation, focusing on the soft sunlight that streamed through the windows of the halls. I shoved my hands in my robe pockets and smiled a little to myself just enjoying the calm atmosphere of the day.
"Arty, hey!" Suddenly Sonny jogged up besides me, appearing almost out of nowhere from one of the classrooms that we had past.
I smiled warmly at him and said hello.
"I actually want us to be alone for a minute, do you mind?" He mumbled closely and discreetly as the Lily, James and Frank all still discussed magical creatures.
I glanced back at the group I had somewhat wandered away from and shrugged.
"Sure, what's up?" I asked as Sonny and I started walking out into the courtyards, leaving the others behind.
"What do you see in Remus Lupin then?" He asked bluntly. My eyes widened a little, while he didn't respond to my obvious shock towards the question. I could feel my face redden almost instantly.
"I don't know what you mean?" I awfully acted, not knowing how to lie to him with ease. He rolled his eyes at me and opened his mouth to speak until-
"Sonny Wildwood."
We both looked over to the voice.
James was there, hands on hips and a daring expression plastered on his face.
"Shouldn't you be practicing for that Hufflepuff game next Tuesday? I heard Naomi Glades is pushing her team to the limit, you snakes better be sharp with her in charge." He teased.
He ruined the verging intense mood automatically, which I was thankful for immensely. Usually I would find James interrupting mildly irritating but in this case I could have positively kissed his feet with appreciation.
Sonny and James bantered about Quidditch for a while, sitting down next to each other on the court grounds. In a short amount of time, Lily and Frank came walking over too...this time with the rest of the gang.
Remus hesitatingly sat down on the grass when he saw who was sat next to me. Though he smiled big in my direction and said his hello's.
Sonny didn't seem phased, though he had literally just tried to initiate a conversation revolving around the tall boy that just appeared and sat in front of him. Sonny had a talent for fitting in, in any group he sat down with. He never hesitated to introduce himself or spark up a conversation, naturally confident and charismatic.
The scene around me was in theory wonderful. Though something seemed off.
The sun was shining (though still chilly because of the time of year), the grass was dry and allowed people to lounge on it in their groups. Lily joined in on the Quidditch banter with James and Sonny. Alice and Frank cuddled up on the grass. Marlene was throwing ripped up grass at Remus and Sirius was playfully messing around with Peter.
Everyone was getting along with each other like I had secretly wanted. Why would I not feel thrilled that my friend Sonny was happily hanging out with my other friends, such as James and Lily?
The feeling of uneasiness suddenly made sense when I caught the sight of the familiar large, Slytherin bully across the yard; Damien. He was smirking over at our group, obviously not liking the fact a Slytherin was so easily fitting in with Gryffindors. He slyly started trudging over to us from across the court. Two smaller, nasty looking Slytherins lingering behind his strong stature.
"Funny looking sort to be seen with, Sonny?" He joked, gaining a muffled laugh from his minions.
"I often think that about your pets over there, funny that we share a common thought outside of the pitch!" Sonny sarcastically smiled and motioned towards the small, skinny boys behind Damien.
The rest of us fell silent, dropping any meaningless conversation being shared around the circle.
Damien's nostrils flared and started to glare at each of us individually.
"You joke about other Slytherins but you hang around a ginger mudblood," he glared at Lily, James stood up instantly at the comment. Lily held out her hand to his to calm him down, not seeming phased by the comment.
"and James Potter. The Chaser that is always chasing, she'll never like you back mate, get over it." Damien laughed. Lily dropped her hand from his and hung her head low. James not seeming phased by the comment.
"I've heard you're the double of Moaning Myrtle...guess you have to settle for the ugly one when you have ears as big as yours, don't ya mate?" Damien cackled towards Alice and Frank. They sat there not knowing what to say or do. Franks face grew pink with anger. Damien glanced at Peter and burst out laughing. Peter automatically hung his head low and shuffled a little closer to Sirius seeking some form of protection.
"Look what we've got here! A little pink, fat pig! And a girl with a rats nest as hair! Marlene, is it? Heard you've got a bad temper! You really wanna hang out with these guys Sonny? When they look- oh." Suddenly Damien stopped in his tracks.
His eyes landing on Remus. I instantly felt a tsunami of anger wash over me as I saw the smirk grow on his face at the sight of him.
The comments he made about everyone else building a foundation for rage, but this being the walls. I felt my fingers start going numb with the intensity of what I was feeling.
"Now I wouldn't make comments about the deformed, your poor mother must struggle looking at you. I would have fed you to the dogs personally; Or is that how you got those ugly marks in the first place? Mummy tried to feed you to the wild and not even they wanted you, is that it?" He spat nastily in Remus' face.
Strangely Remus smirked back and laughed, while before I knew it I was up on my feet and tried marching towards the muscly boy.
Sonny held out an arm in front of me to stop me, his eyes looked calculating.
"Damien, just stop. What are you trying to achieve here exactly? If it's being a dick, well done you've done it." Sonny spoke up dryly.
Damien locked eyes with me, seeing how Sonny protectively held me back. A large grin appearing on his face once more.
"Oh I have to apologise to you, Artemis!" He said.
Everyone subtly looked at each other confused.
My heart was thumping heavily in my chest. My breathing shallow and my fists clenched.
"I got it wrong before, of course Regulus isn't too young for you to fuck! Sometimes you have to do desperate things in desperate cases, especially in the eyes of tradition-" He began.
Sirius jumped up from his spot and brought out his wand instantly at the sound of Regulus' name. Marlene Guided his arm down and shook her head at him. She tried to round up Sirius and Peter, to get them to go inside but no one would budge.
"- though coming from a family of incest that's not to be respected, though I don't think you're the type of girl to fuck a dirty little fag. I should've known you were more messed up than I thought Sirius! Which other gay boy you fiddling with then? you fucking little pig boy there? Or the deformed one?"
Sirius dropped his wand with shock.
A small gasp escaped people's mouths.
I suddenly, without much thought, launched myself at him, shoving Sonny out of the way in the process. I trusted Sonny, how could he have told his Quidditch team? it fuelled my anger even further. The force of my shove threw Sonny onto the floor, I could hear people helping him up behind me.
Damien toppled over at the force of his body colliding with mine. He laughed at me as I tried to hit him. I drew blood from his bottom lip but it didn't seem to phase him.
"Don't. Call. Sirius. A. Fag. Ever. Again." I said between punches.
I was being pulled by Remus and James, though my anger was so strong my grip on the Slytherin boy didn't loosen as I wrapped my hands around his throat.
He continued to laugh, too strong and big to be hurt by me much.
All of a sudden, I was successfully pulled away with the extra help of Frank and Sonny joining in with pulling me off. Taking four boys to drag me off the one on the floor.
I could hear my blood pumping around my body with the adrenaline rush. A swelling sound in my ears. My hands were already bruising. My breath heavy and I knew my hair was static and wild.
Damien lifted himself from the floor and wiped the blood from his mouth. He chuckled as the boys hesitatingly let go from restraining my wrists, as it looked as if Damien was finally going to leave.
"Next time you want to jump me, make sure you're not wearing any clothes. I'd love to bend you ov-" he began smirking and walking up to me again.
"Crucio."
