Chapter 110- My Girl.
After lunch and a while of sunbathing, we all put our T-shirts back on again but left our legs out for the sun to kiss.
We suddenly started hearing whooping noises and a couple of Wolf whistles.
We all sat up straight, holding our hands cupped above our eyes to block out the sun and looking straight ahead.
In a small fishing boat a little distance away, was the boys. Who had eventually made it round to our area of the lake.
"Have they got bored already? It's not even four." Lily said, taking a look at her watch that was disregarded on the blanket next to her shorts and socks.
As if they could hear her, James stood up in the boat making it wobble, Sirius and Peter holding onto his legs to stable him; holding up two huge fish.
We all cheered, raising our arms up into the air in celebration at their victory.
"I was kind of looking forward to making them beg for a burger though, not gonna lie." Marlene said.
"What's wrong with you?" Lily laughed.
I was coming to thoroughly enjoy Marlene's sense of humour and bluntness. She very much reminded me of Sirius and I was beginning to understand that whenever I'd interpret her as being rude in the past, was simply just her not understanding what was and wasn't appropriate. It was just a lack of social awareness, in a different way to mine.
"Oh, they're coming over." I mumbled. Crossing my legs and pulling my T-shirt down a bit more.
James sat down, slapping the fish down on the boat floor and began manically helping Sirius row. Remus was at the back of the boat, directing and Peter was at the front.
Within ten minutes they had rowed the boat up to the grassy area and pushed it up slightly onto the edge so that it wouldn't float away.
"Hi ladies." James sung.
"Went for a swim?" Remus asked, nodding to all of our damp stringy hair.
"It's freezing." I laughed.
"But quite refreshing." Marlene added.
"Sounds good." Sirius almost panted, pulling off his top immediately.
"There is no wind in the middle of the lake, it's sweltering!" He complained, jumping out of his jeans.
They all stunk of sweat and fish, which was potent the closer they approached the blanketed area.
"Merlin James, put the fish in the cool bag and do a freezing charm!" Lily pinched her nose.
"Good idea!" James grabbed Lily's (now empty) lunch bag and went back off to the boat.
"Two big ones. Don't really know what they are but we'll definitely have enough to eat tonight." Peter said looking quite proud of himself.
"Well done, Pete." Marlene said, standing up and giving him a friendly slap on the back, going off to have a look at the fish before James stored them away.
At this point Sirius had already casually walked into the water, enjoying each step in as his body cooled down.
"Did you have fun?" I asked Remus.
"Did you have fun?" He repeated.
"I have, yeah." I smiled.
"I have too!" He smiled back.
"I am boiling though." He stretched the neckline of his T-shirt away from his skin in a fanning motion.
"Go have a swim!" I suggested, knowing it definitely worked.
"Only if you come in too." He said.
"I've already gone in!" I laughed and pointed at the damp hair he already commented on.
"Just a paddle." He pouted.
"Fine." I rolled my eyes at him with laughter.
He was already wearing shorts and didn't strip off from his clothes into his boxers like Sirius had done, who was now floating on the surface of the lake enjoys the combination of cold and hot.
Marlene and James were discussing how Peter caught the fish, hanging around the boat and Peter had sat down next to Lily, who was demanding he put suncream on his pink face.
Remus and I wandered a little further down the grassy area, where the water began to shallow and into the lake which was amazingly clear compared to the darkness of the deep.
We splashed our feet around in the cool water and eventually travelled further back to the blanketed area, where the water began to rise and get up to the top of my thighs and just grazing above Remus' knees.
"It is fucking cold mind." Remus hissed as I splashed the water a little in his direction.
"You get used to it eventually." I recalled.
"Take your T-shirt off, let's actually swim!" I suggested, gesturing that I would take mine off too. I was curious to see whether the girls were being dramatic or not.
"No, I'm good." He laughed.
"Right," we heard James shout.
"Last one in has to gut the fish." He laughed and suddenly a massive splash appeared, making Sirius snap out of his relaxed state due to a rippled wave that splashed over his face.
Peter jumped in after him.
Then Marlene.
Then Lily.
Me and Remus looked at eachother.
I instantly sat down, surrounded by the cold water that shocked my warm upper body.
The sound of laughter erupted.
"Remus, you're the fish gutter!" Peter laughed.
"Oh for fuck sake." Remus sighed though he had a smile on his face and instantly waded deeper into the water, swimming in Peters direction.
I stood up and took off my soggy T-shirt, hanging it on a tree branch to dry that hovered over the lake.
Remus stayed in his T-shirt and shorts. Thankfully he was wearing no denim, which I would imagine feeling horrific sopping wet.
The girls were right.
Remus had swam over to Peter and they began play fighting in the water, attempting to push each other under the surface.
James had lifted Lily up and was swaying her about, her hair splaying out like a mermaid and moving like a golden snake through the water.
Sirius and Marlene were holding hands and using each other to steady out the waves made by the energetic group, to maximise their relaxing ability. Both floating like a starfish on the surface and interlocking.
I simply swam closer and smiled at the group that I felt so welcome by, even Peter hadn't been sarcastic or snarky with me whilst being here. Granted, he hadn't paid me much attention but no attention was better than bad.
Suddenly, James threw Lily up in the air and her legs and arms waved manically as she fell and crashed into the water. She swam up to the surface and lost herself in laughter.
"Give me warning next time, Potter." She pushed her ginger hair slick back out of her face.
"Art." James turned his attention to me and an excitable panic washed over me, similarly to the waves that Lily's crash had created.
"No, no, no!" I began protesting but I wasn't quick enough.
James scooped me up and began bopping my body up and down in the water.
"One," he began.
"No James!" I laughed.
"Two,"
"James!"
"Three,"
I scrunched my eyes shut but he didn't throw me. I opened them to look at him confused. A smirk appeared on his face with a little air kiss.
He threw me up in the air and I could feel my body doing exactly what Lily's did, attempting to grab air.
I crashed into the cold water in a folded position.
"You bastard!" I laughed and spluttered out the water I had accidentally consumed.
"You messing with my girl?" Remus abandonment pushing Peter and water ran over to James who began to scream out to Sirius for help.
My girl.
I couldn't help but smile big and I caught Lily smiling at me the same way.
"Get him Remus!" We both shouted.
