a history into the treatement of black people
historically , they always have been treated as a ' lesser species ' . at one point in history , blacks were killed for fun . black men were dragged from their houses and families and hung . and people stood and laughed and cheered . people planned this out and it was a game to them . people targeted them on the way home from work , broke into their houses , and because of their skin colour , it was allowed . let me emphasise that again , it was allowed . it was legal . this information was found curtsey of watching sofia bryant's instagram story and honestly , hearing it was sickening . this was information i didn't know either , but it needs to be put out there that this did happen and it only happened to black people .
black people have been slaves . they were forced to do as a white person said or else they would face death . they had no rights . they have faced oppression their entire lives and can we blame them ? i most certainly cannot . the slave trade was only abolished in 1806 ( in the UK , from what i'm aware ) and only after the likes of olaudah equiano spoke out and wrote about how awful working as a slave was .
this is an extract from where he was forced to work as a slave . in olaudah's case , he was kidnapped and taken from his family . he was taken to an all new surroundings . these were alien to him . bare in mind he would not have the only person to have been through these experiences . multiple others had went through this and hadn't recorded their encounters .
the purpose of this chapter is not to say all white people are bad , either . it is not to make you uncomfortable and it isn't implying that you , as a white person reading this , support slave labour . support our ancestors treatment towards black people .
the purpose is to show you that this is what they've dealt with . so you can understand that these events have happened throughout history and at times have been celebrated . so that you have more of an insight as to why black people are extremely angry as to how in some aspects , it's like things haven't changed .
this isn't to say a lot hasn't changed either , of course there has been positive change too ( being allowed to vote , to even being allowed a relationship with a white person which wasn't allowed ) but there is still further to go .
police still kill black people because , well , because of their colour . this happens mainly in america , although here in the UK there have been cases of black people being killed by the police too . whilst i haven't managed to capture every injustice that has happened to black people , because there is more . i just wanted to keep it semi - brief to give an understanding as to why people are so mad that this is happening in this day and age too .
hopefully this helps give background to other reasons why people are sick of the brutality .
