African-American music was mostly developed by and for African-Americans. The main modern types of music are blues, gospel, jazz, soul, hip-hop, and rock and roll. African-Americans started influencing mainstream American music in the 19th century. For the last eight days of Black History Month, we will give a timeline of just how influential the music became.
