CHAPTER NINETEEN

"Wow, you are a beautiful creature."

✘✘✘

One year ago

"Today is the Visit Day," Emrys announced like we haven't already heard it thousand times in these past few days. Everyone at the table sighed, looking at him with a glare.

"What does it matter anyway? It's not like anyone will visit us," Jesus told him while tossing the disgusting food around his plate. "None of us has a family who cares about them or wants them out of here."

"So? Can't we be happy for the others?"

"No, we can't, Emrys. That's fucking lame," Gage replied, playing with a match he stole from one of the guards under the table.

"My little sister will visit me," I shrugged, although I would like to keep that information to myself. I didn't like the idea of people knowing about her because they could use it against me and hurt her. Less people knew, the better. But these are my friendsand I can't keep secrets this big from them.

"Shut up! You have a sister?" Emrys gasped in shock, looking at me with raised brows and hands over his mouth. "How come you never told us?" he pouted and stuffed his mouth with scrambled eggs.

"It just didn't come up," I replied coldly, nonchalantly looking at him.

"Well, what's her name?" Gage crossed arms on his chest with interest sparkling in his psychophatic eyes while everyone looked at him with a I-can't-believe-you-just-said-that look.

"Dude, she's like ten!" Jesus scowled at Gage, who rolled his eyes and looked back at me as if Jesus never said anything.

"Fifteen," I corrected him.

"Whatever!" Jesus protested. "It's against our gang code."

"I really don't care, dude. If she's anything like Altlas, I'd smash her," Gage told me with a smirk, tying his decetnly long hair in a small man bun.

I glared at him dead in the eye, trying my best to stay calm. I clenched my jaw and took a deep breath, looking in front of myself and avoiding his provoking stare. "If you say another word about my sister, I'll beat you to death, rip your skin off and feed it to Kingston."

"Well, I am kinda hungry," Kingston agreed as Emrys slapped his arm with a frown, suggesting him to shut up.

Gage stretched arms behind his head and looked at me with amused face, showing me he clearly doesn't mean to let it go.

"What? I'm just looking out for our sister," he defended himself, looking at me with no shame.

"I don't know how does it work for you, but the only family I have is the one that's biologically connected to me," I told him, to which Jesus scoffed and raised his eyebrows.

"Are you serious right now? That's bullshit, I consider you guys my family and we all come from different parents," he told me with a frown. Ever since Jesus came here, he was always compassionate about these things and made them more complicated then they actually were, although I considered our "brotherhood" nothing but a pact to stay alive.

"Just because we're in here together and get along, it doesn't mean we are brothers," I argued.

"I think he's broken," Emrys whispered to Kingston while looking at me, to which I just rolled my eyes.

"Xander, you have a visitor," a guard appeared behind me, tapping my shoulder. I nodded and got up, looking at the four of them.

"Her name's Luella," I told them before I walked away with a guard who led me outside.

In front of me were ten metal tables with few chairs around them, guards surrounding the entire place. Prisoners were already sitting at them with their visitors, laughing and talking. My eyes scanned through unfamiliar faces until I recognized my little sister. The guard cuffed my hands before he walked me towards the table she was sitting at.

"Is that really necessary?" I asked him while uncomfortably twisting my wrists. "That's really tight."

"If you complain one more time, you'll be unprivileged from having visitors," he replied and shoved me at the chair, taking a few steps back to give us a little privacy.

Lulu smiled, blinding me with her white, pearly teeth. Her brown, almost black eyes were staring at me with joy and happiness while a few loose strands of her chocolate hair separated from a bun and shaped her face perfectly. She looked like an angel.

"I wish I could hug you, big brother," she told me with a small, yet nostalgic smile.

My heart immediately broke apart when I saw her sad, the will of escaping stronger than ever.

"Lulu, I'll be out soon, I promise," I told her discreetly, looking behind my shoulder at the guard who was staring at a girl in shorts. "And when I do, you'll be the first person I'll come to."

She smiled again, this time with pure happiness. "Okay," she nodded. "But please, don't get involved with something you shouldn't."

"Well..." I sighed, looking up at the sky, which was unaturally bright today.

She face palmed herself, looking at me through her fingers. "What did you do now?"

I chuckled, shaking my head. "It's not really that important."

"I still need to..." she trailed off, looking over my shoulder with a frown. "Uh, who is that?" she pointed her finger behind me as screams echoed through the air.

I followed her finger, almost instantly noticing four boys running towards us while guards stumbled over obstacles they threw at them. Gage beat all of them, sprinting to us first.

"Hello, beautiful, I'm Gage Evans," he introduced himself, flashing her with the most flirtarious smile I've ever seen. "Did you fall from the Heaven, because-"

Jesus came next and knocked Gage down, flashing her with an innocent smile he used to attract girls as he ran a hand through his hair. "Hey, Luella, how are you doing?" he asked her, giving her a friendly handshake.

"Um, hey? Who are-"

Gage got up and tackled Jesus to the ground, starting an intense wrestling session, followed with sounds I couldn't explain even if I could. Kingston appeared next the two of them, placing his hands on his waist.

"Wow, you are a beautiful creature," he admired her with a smile, which made her frown and shake her head.

"I'm sorry, but I'm really not interested right now-"

"Fuck no, you dirty bastard!" Gage pulled Kingston to the ground with a groan, involving him in their, rather awkward, wrestling match.

"Okay, I'll move over here," Emrys chuckled, walking to my other side. "Hey, I'm Emrys Chadwick and I will not hit on you," he offered his hand to Lulu, who nervously shook it. "Don't worry, we are Atlas' friends," he added, which made her sigh in relief.

"Nice to meet you, Emrys," she smiled.

"They are my idiotic, horny friends," I corrected him, looking over to Kingston, Gage and Jesus who were still wrestling like dirty, muddy pigs with no self respect and pride whatsoever.

"Ow!" Jesus screamed as Gage pulled his hair, Kingston trying to bite Gage's leg, who tried to shake him of while taming Jesus. If I could, I would like to forget I ever saw that situation because it didn't look anywhere near normal.

"I love you, Lulu. Be strong," quickly towered over the table and gave her a peck on the cheek, before guards came and grabbed our arms. People were staring at us, some of them with disgust and others with amusement as guards surrounded us.

"What the fuck is going on here?!" Blue screamed behind us, looking at Kingston, Jesus and Gage who were now on their feet and covered in dirt. "In my office, now!"

As they dragged us inside, I turned around and blew Lulu a kiss, trying to remember every single detail of her appearance, not knowing when or if I'll ever see her again.

"You tried to eat me!" Gage hissed at Kingston as the guards walked us through the halls and towards Blue's office.

"Atlas said I could!" he defended himself.

"What? When did I ever say that?!"

"Well, you kinda did at the cafeteria," Jesus said, blowing a strand of hair out of his face.

"Was he delicious?" Emrys asked Kingston, who pouted.

"His pants were too thick."

I tuned down their conversation, their voices becoming nothing but a low muffle. I tried to focus on what will be happening when we encounter Blue. I suppose his reaction will not be pleasent or anything like it was before because this time we threatened his reputation in front of others.

This time, he'll be stricter then before.

"You fucking brats!" he screamed into out faces as we sat in front of him, lined next to each other. "How dare you causing a fight in the public?!"

"Mr. Warden?" Emrys raised his hand, asking for approval to speak.

"Yes, Chadwick?"

"Mr. Warden, have you ever been in love?"

"No, love is for the weak," he answered him with an emotionless face. "You know what's not for the weak, Chadwick? Cleaning sewage."

"No, you can't be serious!" Gage got up and was immediately sat back down by one of the guards behind him while the rest of us speechlessly stared at Blue.

"Toilets on the first floor stopped working and the five of you will clean all of the shit you pooped in the past two weeks as a punishment," Blue flashed us a mischevious smile. "C'mon, get up! You have a lot of work to do."
