The phantom-white mountain has loomed over us as I drew Alena closer my bare chest, her shivering began to become severe, it seemed that she couldn't restrain at all as the mist started to surround us. My eyes were fixed on a weird insect crawled far away from us, climbing an old tree.
I hesitated for a second, but then my arms had their own control as they tighten around her waist, I drew her closer if that was possible. That very instant, I could feel her heart beats matching mine as it was flapping violently.
"Relax, it's okay. You're safe now, love." I whispered, stroking her Valkyrie-gold hair. "It's all right, love. No one can harm you now."
Her gemstone-blue eyes were locked with mine, piercing right through me. They were bewitching my soul and her lips were lava red.
I could feel her desire to believe that she was safe now. I grasped that she wanted to linger in my arms. Yet, a huge part of her rejected that thought as she drove herself away from me. She was determined to stand on her own feet.
I observed her with concerned eyes as she brushed the dirt away from her white gown. Her white, fluffy wedding dress became worse than a rug.
A startling amount of porcelain skin began to show through the shattered gown, showing her hourglass figure.
"Why won't you listen to me? Didn't I warn you? I've never thought you would do such a thing! I have never imagined you, trying to escape in the middle of the night, and in this morbid forest." I said, pulling her arm roughly.
"What do you want from me now?" She asked, giving me a defeated look. "Do you want me to beg for forgiveness? Or do you want me to apologize for attempting to escape?" She said pulling her hand away.
I clenched my jaws, as I folded my arms over my chest. "No, princess. The question is what do you want from me? What are you trying to prove? Do you want me to become that rascal that you've imagined me to be?"
"I only want to go home! Why can't you understand that?" She yelled.
After I heard what she said earlier, my anger disappeared.
"I don't know if you'll ever go home. Alvin won't be so forgiving when he learns what you did. He won't ignore the fact that another man touched you, Alena. Do I have to keep reminding you, my dear?" I asked her mockingly.
Alena shook her head helplessly, retreating away from me. She rested her head in her hands, unable to glance up at me, as tears began to form in her eyes. But what happen next, left me speechless. "That disgusting place is not my home. The ancient maze was destroyed long time ago. And what left behind is the wreckage of a fallen kingdom. That kingdom is surrounded by death traps and high walls." She got up slowly, searching for something.
Then I realized what she was trying to do. She was trying to reach a distance cliff. I followed her slowly and kept listening. "That ancient castle was the only home I ever knew," she said as she faced it. "It had been in my father's family for centuries. It used to be the most beautiful castle here. The Eden- green gardens used to surround it, running forever, filling it with life. Those wooden warn out gates used to be protected by heavy guards." She closed her eyes as she started to recalls the rest of her memories.
"And once that door was wide open, the great white halls would run endlessly till they reach the royal court. The royal court was another fairy tale. It had long black columns mixed with pure gold, creating beautiful patterns. The floor was covered with black marble, looking at it use to remind me of the bright stars in the inky heavens. As I moved ahead, a sea of people used to surround me, until my eyes find it. The throne."
I didn't shift my eyes away from her as she talked, but when she reached the last part, fresh tears started to run down her rosy cheeks.
"My parents sacrificed their lives so I could live. But their sacrifice was in vain, I couldn't do anything at all. I'm weak! All I can see now is the sky from above and death below." She yelled as she turned to face me. "I couldn't do anything! I couldn't even avenge their death and punish their killers. And when I tried to avenge them I, I." Alena stopped talking.
I stole another glance at her, keeping my unreadable expression on. And when I did all I could see was anger was controlling her as she stood before me.
"What happened, Alena? What did you do?" I asked her out of curiosity.
"Nothing," she shot back refusing to explain any further.
I swallowed my pride and didn't force Alena to speak.
"You spoke of that place as if it was heaven on earth," I added.
"It was," she said.
"If you loved your parents that much, why did you agree to marry Alvin?"
Alena went back, gazing into the shallow river as it was oozing through the dark forest. "I didn't have any choice. I was stuck in that tower for a long time. I wanted to get back what belonged to me," I didn't allow her to finish.
"What are you talking about? Who locked you in that tower?" I asked.
"No one, I didn't want Alvin or his father to reach me. That's why I hid in the tower. When I was younger all I ever wanted was a decent husband, but now all I think of is revenge." she spoke with orbs filled with anguish.
"I don't understand you. You never wanted Alvin, but not long ago you were willing to give away your home and happiness for a man like him?" I said as I shook my head. Anger started to run through me as I heard her previous words.
"Alvin was one of the young knights in our kingdom. Furthermore, his father was the king's advisor. One day, Alvin approached my father exchanging something for my hand. I didn't understand anything, I woke up the next morning betrothed to a man I didn't love."
"How could you still cry over your father after everything he did?"
Alena dragged herself closer to the edge of the cliff, as her following words echoed through the mountains.
"Because I'm the one who drove him to his death."
