21. Plan In Action

The next day, I was woken up by a series of alarms, blasting in my ears every five minutes, effectively tearing my eardrums. And the more bizarre thing was that those alarms weren't even the basic ringing alarms, they were hard metal songs, which told me instantly that they had been meddled with purposefully. Damn you Huma, for successfully ruining my beauty sleep!

I sluggishly attempted to wipe the remnants of my rudely interrupted sleep in my eyes while trying to recognize the next Dreamcatcher song that was playing. As I groggily woke up and sat on the edge of the bed, I was reminded of the mastermind behind this, and my eyes flew around to catch a glimpse of messy black hair throughout the room. When I couldn't find her anywhere, and confirmed that there was no one inside the washroom, I turned around, only to find her sleeping so peacefully on the bed beside me. How could I have not seen her earlier? And who the hell sets an alarm - a series of ten alarms - and then not wake up themselves?!

She's going to meet her death today itself. I don't care if I go to prison anymore. This is it, this is how the rest of my life will be spent - in the prison for murdering my best friend. And the best part will be that I will never regret it, because I will get rid of these obnoxious alarms.

I picked up a pillow from my side of the bed and threw it at her with full force, and then proceeded to snatch the covers off of her body. When she started shivering in the cold air flowing through the open window, she woke up instantly, reaching out for the disappeared warmth. I held it higher and threw it off to the opposite side, and shouted at her,

"Get your lazy ass up. And you better not set the alarm from tonight, ever!!"

This made her groan, knowing exactly what she was paying for. She mumbled something lazily before finally getting up and making a dash for the bathroom.

"Now, that's my good girl!"

I called after her sardonically, which earned me a loud "Shut up, bitch!" from inside.

While Huma was busy doing her morning duties, I quickly opened my phone and texted Akshay, making an excuse that I was sick and wouldn't be able to accompany him. He seemed concerned, but thankfully didn't get suspicious. After that was settled, I quickly made my way to shower and dress up discreetly for the day, all the while wishing that I don't get caught by Akshay lest he should come visit me.

I came out wearing a black shirt, along with black denims and a long black overcoat. Looking at my attire, Huma snorted,

"Looking at you being all excited for this, I can't believe you even denied my offer to go spy on someone last night. You sure you're not bipolar right?"

"Oh shut up, let me do this the right way."

I argued, feeling slightly flustered for my puerile behaviour. As she laughed at my attempt to not get embarrassed, I chucked another pillow at her to shut her up as I took out all of our essentials that we would need for this trip. It wasn't a lot considering the fact that we weren't detectives, and this wasn't supposed to be that kind of trip, but we could make do. So far, we had a pair of binoculars, some bobby pins, one set of winter gloves each, a small torch and water bottles. It seemed to be enough for now.

I suddenly turned to Huma and asked her,

"So what do we do now? Wait for him to leave the hotel?"

"Exactly. We will order some room service, and have fun at the balcony today. As soon as we catch him going out, we will make a dash for our car and follow him."

I rose an eyebrow at that.

"Are you sure that the man is going to wait for us? By the time we reach our car, he will have fled away somewhere. This won't work. We will first eat and then find a place to hide in the main garden of the hotel. And then, as soon as we see him come down, we will be able to tail him better."

At this suggestion, Huma exclaimed,

"See, this is what I was talking about. You should take lead because you're definitely better at this. I still can't believe you never thought of such a solid plan."

"I still won't agree with you and say it's a good plan, but yeah, anything that helps you sleep at night."

"Shut up!"

After having breakfast, we immediately ran downstairs, but made sure our faces were obscured, in case someone might recognize us. I had a black cap on, along with sunglasses while Huma wore one of my hoodies which were 'hideous' according to her. I, too, wasted no time to remind her that this hideous thing was what helped her today.

As we reached the lobby, thinking of a suitable place to hide and still be able to keep an eye on all the activities of the hotel, I suddenly noticed our target already standing at the concierge, asking for the keys of his car. My pupils widened considerably, and I was grateful that I had sunglasses on to conceal it. I tapped Huma countless times until she asked me what my problem was.

"Target located. You go follow him outside, and make sure he doesn't get away from your sight. In the meantime, I'll go bring my keys from the desk. Be alert, okay?"

She nodded,

"Alright. And don't take too much time, because he won't wait for us."

Mr. Dheeraj Malhotra, you have no idea what you have called upon yourself today.
