"Some days you will feel like the ocean. Some days you will feel like you are drowning in it."

I watched Skywalker slowly approach the rude party goer, his eyes scanning him over with a look of disgust, "How dare you," He grabbed the unpaid-for drink from the man's hand as his back hit against the bar, "Come into my club, insult my employee, and try to steal from me." He held the can in-front of his face before opening his hand and dropping it to the floor.
Ahsoka sighed from next to me, "Damn it, he's gonna make me clean that up." She groaned quietly in annoyance as she folded her arms and leaned back against the counter behind us to watch the show.
Neither of us were making drinks now since not a single person dared to speak in this moment, and most have already backed away to avoid getting caught in the crossfire of whatever was about to happen.
I however, remained in the same spot, curiously and anxiously watching the events take place. Praying I wouldn't witness anything drastic enough that would make the cop in me want to reveal herself, "I-I wasn't stealing, I was going to pay for it, I swear." His voice shook with panic, almost the same way Arturo's did in the kitchen earlier.
It wasn't until now that I realized just how much fear this man can instill into people with a simple look. He may come off as sweet, kind, and even caring; but this moment right here reminded me that he's a suspected cold blooded killer. And I say suspected because there's no real proof that he has actually harmed anyone, but it's clear that there's much more to him behind that deceivingly beautiful face and those endearing eyes.
"Don't lie, I really hate liars," He smiled, his words making my palms sweat to the point to where I had to subtly wipe them against my apron.
I'm a liar. I've been lying since the day I met him, and what exactly would he do to me if he somehow comes to learn that?
"Why are you shaking?" He tilted his head, breathing a low chuckle and for one split second, my mind thought he was talking to me - mainly because I was shaking. But I pulled myself together and reminded myself who I am and to not let this man's new aura intimidate me, "I'm not a confrontational man, I'm not going to hit you." With force, he placed his hand on the man's shoulder; causing it to drop slightly as his body tensed up, "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to, but I'll refrain myself from such actions as long as you pay the lovely girl for the drink and give her a very generous tip."
"But, I didn't even get to drink it-"
He wasn't able to finish his sentence before Skywalker spun him around in one swift motion and slammed his front against the bar, so the man was now facing me. Ahsoka and I both jumped in surprise and a few guests in the room gasped, "I said," My boss, who appeared ten times more frightening than before, lowered his lips to the ear of the whimpering unfortunate male, "Pay for the drink and tip her." He uttered each word slow and his tone was filled with malice.
"Okay, okay," He dug his hands into his pocket and pulled out his wallet. He was shaking as he took out a twenty and handed it to me. I slowly accepted it, my eyes locked on a chilling crystal blue.
Skywalker didn't seemed pleased with what I was given, and refused to let go of the man as he held his arm behind his back, painfully twisting it.
"I think you can be a bit more generous." He took his gaze away from mine and looked at the side of his victims face. Instantly, I was handed another twenty, prompting Skywalker to release his hold on him, "That wasn't so hard, was it? Now get the hell out of my club and don't ever come here again." He raised his arm and pointed to the door.
That poor guy that I actually started to feel a little sorry for wasted no time in rushing out of the club, followed by a few of his friends that I'm guessing he showed up with.
"Sorry you all had to see that, but that's what happens when you don't treat your servers with respect," My boss shrugged as he casually spoke about it like he didn't just assault someone, "But still, my apologies for disrupting your night of fun and I would like to give each of you a drink, on me." He smiled when he finished his mini speech which earned him a loud cheer just as the music began to play again.
He spun around to face us and opened his mouth to speak, but his sister beat him to the punch, "That was a little excessive Anakin. How much have you had to drink today?" She questioned him with narrowed eyes.
He glanced up and tapped his chin as he pretended to think, "I don't know, five, maybe six."
She rolled her eyes with a heavy sigh, "That explains it. You need to calm yourself down before you destroy whatever is left of your liver." She scolded him, causing him to roll his eyes, "And you always drink too much when he comes to visit, stop letting him get to you."
His face fell and his jaw clenched, "Im fine snips, now be useful for once and do your fucking job." He snapped at her and I could tell his tone hurt her feelings.
But she hid it from him well and turned away from him, "Whatever you say Master." She said bitterly as she aggressively began making one of the many drinks that were being shouted out by the crowd.
His eyes then met mine and I felt a nervous knot in my stomach, "Next time, don't be afraid to throw a bottle, or call for me or the bouncers. You're lucky I was already watching you." He reached behind the counter and grabbed a half empty bottle of Ciroc. Wait a minute, did he just say he was watching me? "I'll be upstairs if any of you need anything, but try not to need anything." He spoke loud in a monotone as he walked away with it and lazily trudged up the stairs.
"Fucking dick hole," Ahsoka mumbled as she threw a lime on the counter and began cutting it with a small knife, "All I ever do is try to look out for him and monitor his obvious drinking problem and all he does is spit in my face." She aggressively placed a sliced lime on the rim of a glass and handed the free drink to a customer, "Not literally, but he might as well, it'd hurt a lot less than the way he talks to me."
I noticed the water in her eyes, and I placed my hand on her back for comfort as my gaze traveled to the second floor where I watched Skywalker sit in the VIP section next to an unfamiliar man, "I'm sorry Ahsoka, I'd be hurt too in your situation it's obvious you're only looking out for him because you love him. He's just too blind to see," I said, keeping my eyes locked on them, studying them.
I watched as the unknown individual said something that clearly pissed Skywalker off, but he bit his tongue and remained silent - only listening as he tapped his fingers on the vodka bottle in his hand, showing his impatience.
I could hear Ahsoka talking back to me, but as guilty as it made me feel I was hardly paying any attention. I was in investigation mode at the moment and using comforting her as an excuse to not be working so I could have my attention elsewhere.
He must've been watching me from up there, I have the perfect view, so no doubt he has one too. But why? Is he on to me? Or simply being a man and admiring?
"(Y/n) are you listening?" Ahsoka pulled my attention to her and I snapped my gaze in her direction with a nod.
"Yes I heard every word, and I completely agree with you," I lied, I didn't hear a damn thing, "But I was just wondering who he's with up there with, you said he upsets him so why does he invite whoever that is here?" I asked innocently and as if I was genuinely confused and concerned.
She rolled her eyes and glance yo at the second floor, I followed her gaze, "That is Rush Clovis," She informed me and I made a mental note of the name, "He's a business partners of my brothers and kind of an asshole, but not someone he can kick to the curb, unfortunately." She sighed as she went back to handing out beer bottles and hard seltzers for the guests who have been shouting a variety of drink orders at us - that we have been neglecting.
I began going back to my job while occasionally glancing up, "Can I ask why?" I was a bit hesitant, but I had hoped that she saw this as a venting opportunity and not me being nosey.
"Something to do with his father, he's Anakin's boss." She let something slip.
I side-eyed her, "I thought Anakin owned this club. Wouldn't that make him his own boss?"
So there is one thing Obi-Wan got wrong. Anakin is not the boss of everything, he may be high up there on whatever food chain he's apart of, but there's still someone else pulling a few of the strings.
This whole thing just a got a whole lot bigger.
She paused her movements and quickly cleared her throat before plastering a smile on her face, "Did I say boss?" She chuckled, "I must be exhausted, Clovis's dad just owns this building and my brother rents it from him. So I guess he is a boss in a way since we need him to even run this place," She spoke her lie in a rushed tone with another awkward chuckle, "And he tends to change the rent a lot and make new rules so my brother gets aggravated and stressed, and sometimes Clovis comes in here like he owns the place and we have to oblige to what he wants or he makes things more complicated."
Those who over explain are the most dishonest.
"Oh," I nodded like I believed that whole story, knowing it was actually in place of something else, the actual truth. But she's smart for coming up with all of that so fast, "But usually when you rent a place, you sign a lease. Doesn't it state that they can't make any changes regarding rent or rules?" I shrugged nonchalantly, handing out a few drinks with a smile on my face as I accepted the generous tips.
"Um," She furrowed her brows and avoided looking at me as she rushed to hand out orders, "He signed it young, too young to be smart enough to read the fine print." She cleared her throat.
I took that as our conversation ending, it seemed she was getting uncomfortable with how much she spilled and I had a feeling that if I asked anymore questions it'd look too suspicious on my part.
So, I simply nodded and put my attention back to working and after a few silent moments shared between us, she spoke again, "He's trying to get out of it though," She mumbled quietly, and I know we weren't talking about a simple contract, but something more serious. Although she believes I'm oblivious to her lying, "To get out from under them and own it all himself, things just haven't been going easy for him lately." She grabbed a bin full of dirty glass cups and walked away towards the back.
Every-time I learn something new, I just get shoved deeper in a hole of confusion.
This whole time we assumed he was running everything, but it looks like the boss has a boss. And I felt like this lease was a symbol for something, is there really some type of agreement he's apart of, leaving him stuck and working under these people he loathes?
I thought this was a family business as she said before? Unless that's what she meant when she said he's trying to get out of it, meaning to branch away from these people and run his own thing. Then it really will be a family business. That also helps with explanation on why he doesn't want her apart of it, in case it's not something he can get out from under.
I handed out a drink which I'm not even sure if it's what the customer had asked me for, seeing as my mind was running rampant on this. And I glanced up, momentarily freezing when my gaze landed right on his. He kept the eye contact for a few seconds before taking a swig of the bottle in his hand, and turning his attention back to the man known as Clovis.
This confusing puzzle just keeps getting bigger and bigger. And I'm going to be the one to unravel it all.
