Grell's P.O.V

I sat myself down on top of a tall building, dangling my legs over the edge as I wiped away the sweat on my brow. "Honestly, Grell, we've only reaped two souls. I'd like to get to all of six of them before the night ends." I heard William speaking, most likely scolding me, but his words didn't register in my head. I was too busy staring down at London's most beautiful creature. She had caught my attention as just a child and I always knew I would never forget the day her family perished in a fire at the theater, her miraculously escaping with only her younger sister somehow. I was never sure why someone as simple and poorly as her could ever catch my eye. She wore no red, and even if she did it would be dirtied from living in the disgusting parts of London. "Staring at Gwyn again?" William asked me in an exasperated tone and I nodded, wondering why someone as special and gorgeous as her had to live such an awful life. She soon turned into a small, rundown house, the door closing with a snap behind her. I sighed. "Alright, let's get on with it then."

It had been many years since that night, and I often thought about why such a plain, boring night could ever remain in my head. I specifically remember not doing anything extraordinary or special that night. Even staring at my precious Gwyn was nothing new to me. "Grell, I'm here to retrieve your paperwork that was due... sometime last week." William's tired voice droned on and on, so I quickly shut him up by throwing my bright red stapler at him. "William, you need to get yourself a woman." He stared at me in surprise and I stared him up and down, taking note of how he had changed since that night. While I myself looked as bright as ever, William's once shining emerald eyes had now turned dull, as though all the life had been sucked out of them. His voice had deepened and his hair had grown longer, which was now tied in a low ponytail because of its length. "Grell!" He snapped his fingers at me, knocking me out of my trance. "Don't forget about that paperwork." I nodded. "I also have a soul to add to your list." He tossed me a file and I flipped it open, not particularly caring who it was until I saw the name and date of death. "When were you going to tell me that Gwyn dies tomorrow?!" I shouted at the monotone reaper, my words having no effect on him as he simply pushed up his glasses and answered, "I just did. Good day, Grell Sutcliff."

"This is it. The day she dies," I murmured to myself, staring down at my love as she mourned the death of her younger sister, who had died a few days before from starvation. I stood close by, watching as a now twenty-eight-year-old Gwyn began to write a note, setting it down on the unstable desk before reaching up to untie the rope used to hang up wet clothes. I knew what she was going to do. I didn't want to watch, but I knew that if I didn't reap her delicate soul then she would never be able to join me. Suicidal humans become grim reapers, I thought to myself, letting a single tear slip down my face, turning away as my poor Gwyn jumped off the chair, one single tear sliding down her face as well. "I shall see you soon, my sweet Gwyn."

I'm sorry it had to be so sad.
