Polly's POV
———

It's strange.

Well, when are things never strange, to be honest?

I've been having this feeling of somebody..watching me. Am I going crazy? Or are my suspicions right?

Yes, there are doubts in my mind about what I think, but I cannot deny how I felt when it occurred. I felt this weird tingling up and down my spine, my heart began to race, and I grew paranoid. More so than normal.

Every time I looked around, I saw nobody but a young blonde kid. He looks like a young noble, but I can't be sure if he's actually a lord or the son of one. I always found him either around or flat out staring at me. Rather blunt for a thirteen year old. Or is he fourteen? Younger?

I'd sure be surprised if he was older.

(And yes, I do know he's indeed fourteen.)

Anyway, moving on.

I work for a young lord named Ciel Phantomhive, as of yet. I really needed a job and he had an opening, offering it to me.

I was in a tight situation, and I had to get out of it. So I seized the opportunity.

Turns out that I actually love working at the Phantomhive Manor as a maid. Everyone is treated well, too! Ciel can be a little crabby at times, but can you really blame him? He lost his parents as a child. That can't be easy.

I should know.

I was asked by Sebastian to go out and get some groceries for Bard, so here I am. Mey-Rin had some spare time so she came with me.

We're walking through town, entering little shops and looking at stalls to get all of the items on the list.

"Bread?"
"Check!"
"Flour?"
"Check!"
"Eggs?"
"Check!"

"So, what's next, then?" I ask, holding the fingers I had pointed out while reciting the items with my free hand. Mey-Rin has the list.

"Um, we still need milk!" She tells me.

I nod, "Alright, let's get that. Is milk the final thing?"

"Yes, it is!"

As we're walking to a mini store to grab the cold beverage, I begin to drift off in my mind about how I got to this point in my life.

It's a long story, but to sum it up: My parents passed away a while back, I didn't have a job so I could barely pay for anything, then Ciel found me and offered the job of being his maid.

Let's just say I know a bit about how Ciel must feel whenever somebody mentions our parents..

Anyways, I had barely spoken to anybody in the beginning as working as a maid. I only talked when asked to, and even then I stuttered. Soon enough I began to warm up to everyone at the Phantomhive Manor. I think the person I'm probably closest to is either Finny or Mey-Rin.

It's a close tie.

I'm snapped out of my thoughts when Mey-Rin announces, "We're here, yes we are!"

I force my eyes from the ground to the building in front of us. It's a cute little store with roses and other types of flowers in pots on the windowsills, a few twinkling lights hanging from the roof, and a quaint little sign. It says, Welcome to Zara and Lola's!

We head inside, pushing the chocolate brown door open and triggering a bell, alerting the owners of the store of our presence. This makes me a little nervous, not liking the idea of talking to strangers. It's nothing against them, as I'm sure they're great people, but I'm really shy. I'm not very good with people sometimes, I guess..

Two women who look to be in their early twenties stride up to us, asserting such confidence that I'm stunned. I've never felt such a strong aura from anyone other than Ciel and Sebastian.

They're both beautiful and tall, looking so similar I begin to wonder if they're twins. Their name tags read Zara and Lola. Zara being on the left, Lola on the right.

The girls have shoulder length hazel-brown hair that bounces as they walk, eyebrows filled in but not looking bushy, and whenever they smile I can see their dimples. Zara has dimples on both sides of her cheeks while Lola only has one in her smile crease.

Up close I can tell that they both have a few freckles on the bridge of their noses and upper cheeks, contradicting their pale complexions. Their blue eyes protrude a sense of professionalism, but past that you can see they're kind-natured and childish at heart.

"Hello, my name is Zara, and this is my younger twin sister, Lola," Zara informs us, shaking our hands. I then move my hand to shake Lola's.

She stares at me with a small smile as she exclaims, "Wow! I really like your eyes! What color are they?"

"Th-Thank you, and I don't r-really know myself to be h-honest," I reply with a nervous chuckle, face burning from the compliment.

Lola gives me a smile and nods, "That's alright! I'm Lola, by the way."

"Polly," I reply shakily.

"I'm Mey-Rin, yes I am!"

She then shakes hands with Mey-Rin before standing straight next to her older sibling.

I get that strange feeling again, like I'm being watched. It makes me uncomfortable, so I hope that we move on quickly. There is a huge window beside the front door, and I have a feeling that's where someone is staring at me.

Thankfully, noticing my discomfort, Zara inquires, "So, what are you looking for today?"

"Some milk, yes we are," Mey-Rin answers for me.

"Right this way, ladies," Lola says politely, leading us to the freezer section towards where the milk is supposedly kept. Zara follows behind Mey-Rin and I.

We stop in front of the milk and I grab it, Mey-Rin thanking them and paying for it.

I give a small smile as we walk out, them calling after us, "Come again soon!"

As soon as we set foot outside, the feeling of being watched gets stronger. Should I tell Mey-Rin?

Darting my eyes around, I scan the area uselessly. Fortunately, I do spot that same young blonde noble I always see. Surprisingly, next to him stands a man with raven hair, golden eyes, and black thin-rimmed glasses to frame his stoic features. He's staring right at me.

I swiftly avert my gaze and walk faster, nudging Mey-Rin to speed up. She looks at me with curiosity as she questions, "What's wrong, Polly?"

I whisper lowly to her as we weave through the busy sidewalk, "Someone has been watching me for days. I just kept seeing this young blonde kid, but today I saw an actual adult man with him. He was looking right at me. I don't know if he's good or bad, but I don't want to chance anything."

Mey-Rin looks nervous, but nods in response, keeping pace with me. She begins to look around, but it's too obvious. I nudge her again and she takes the hint, being more careful.

The carriage is waiting nearby. As long as Mey-Rin makes it, everything will be fine.

If there's one thing I'm good at, it's hand-to-hand combat. And running. That works too.

With the carriage in sight, I grow less nervous, but stay on edge and on high alert. You never know what might happen.

We reach our transportation, and I let Mey-Rin go in first and hand her my grocery bags. Before I can jump in, I feel a tap on my shoulder.

I freeze for a moment before slowly turning around, making eye contact with that blonde boy. Standing behind him is that raven haired man who was staring at me earlier.

"Y-Yes?" I ask as politely as I can, knowing that if this kid is of a high status, I can't risk upsetting him.

"Hello! Do you work for Ciel Phantomhive?" The young man asks, looking up at me slightly.

I'm taller than the male, but not by much.

I nod slowly, not sure if I should've answered that particular question. "I do. Would you like me to pass a message?"

He nods and tells me, "Tell him that I will be arriving at his manor later tonight."

"What's the occasion?" I raise my eyebrow, growing a bit more assertive that I normally would be, especially with the kid of a noble.

However, this is my master we're talking about. His safety over my own, even if this kid doesn't look like much of a threat.

"A visit," he informs me, and I nod. "We'll be there at nightfall."

Then he struts off, the tall man following seconds afterwards with his brooding, yet attractive, stature.

"You know who that kid looks like?" Mey-Rin asks, looking at me as we're in the carriage on our way back to the Phantomhive Manor.

"No, who?" I ask, shaking my head.

"Alois Trancy."

My eyes widen, "The male Ciel hates?"

She nods grimly, "Indeed, indeed. There might be a fight, yes there might!"

"We'll just have to make sure that doesn't happen, then," I respond, confidence filling my tone despite me being unsure if I'd even be able to stop a fight alone.

Surely I can, but if they have weapons, which I'm sure they will, that will make everything a whole lot more complicated.

If that was Alois Trancy, then who was that handsome raven haired man? His butler, perhaps?

I suppose I'll find out later.

Timeskip

It's almost sundown. They should be here shortly.

Ciel had confirmed that the blonde kid is in fact Alois Trancy, and that the black haired man is his butler, Claude Faustus.

Claude Faustus. A fitting name, wouldn't you agree?

There is a knock at the door, and Sebastian opens it, having been waiting there. Ciel stands in front of the stairs, and us other servants stand off to the side. To the right of the stairway if you're looking at us from the front door.

In runs Alois Trancy, yelling and trying to latch onto Ciel. "Ciel!~ It's so good to see you!"

Ciel side steps so Alois will fall, and it works. My young lord looks down at him with an unamused face as he says in a monotone, "Wish I could say the same, Trancy."

Alois groans from pain and stands up.

As I watch the interaction between the two, I can feel Claude staring at me again. I ignore him and look at the ground, when minutes later my master calls my name.

"Polly, stand by!" Ciel shouts, uselessly shoving Alois away with his hand, as I'm the closest servant to him.

I'm immediately at Ciel's side, opposite of Alois. I grab Alois's left shoulder with my right hand and move my arm so that it lies across his entire chest to his other shoulder. I take hold of my right wrist with my left hand, holding him back and Ciel nods to me, so I push Alois to the ground.

He hits the ground with a thud and I stand in between Ciel and Alois, creating a barrier. I face Claude's direction and wait, Ciel to my right.

"Thank you, Polly," Ciel says, nodding to me in gratitude. I nod back and stare straight ahead.

Claude looks like he wants to defend his young lord, but he seems to have an internal battle with himself. His young lord, or a young lady?

It's a lose, lose situation anyway.

In the end Claude stays put and Alois stands again, dusting himself off as he mutters, "You're pretty strong for a girl."

I glare at him, a newfound confidence in me as I snap, "And what is that supposed to mean?"

"Polly, stand down," Ciel orders, and I look to him just to see that he's angered as well. He clearly doesn't like one of his servants being mildly insulted.

I exhale and stop talking, keeping my glare on the ground.

Alois stands in front of Ciel and I, ready to address him properly.

"Please refrain yourself from degrading my servants, Trancy," Ciel growls calmly through gritted teeth. "Or I will have to ask you to leave."

"Alright, fine.~ I'll stop," Alois whines, acting like a child.

I loosen my glare a bit, but keeping a serious and hardened look on my face. I silently thank Ciel for standing up for me and the other servants in my head.

"What is the purpose of your presence, Trancy?" Ciel asks, though it definitely sounded more like a statement.

"What? Can't I visit a friend?"

"I'm not your friend."

"Oh, you're no fun, Ciel!~"

"For telling the truth?"

"I—Whatever. I'm staying for the night, and so is Claude."

"No, you aren't."

"Yes, we are. The carriage won't be back until tomorrow morning."

"Then we'll send you home on one of mine."

"Actually, Young Master," Sebastian cuts in, and Ciel looks to him. "Our carriages are being cleaned and repaired at the moment, so I'm afraid we won't be able to do that until tomorrow morning as well."

Ciel glares at him and sighs in irritation, rubbing his temples.

"Fine, fine. Only for one night."

"Yay!~ Thanks, Ciel!"

"Don't cause trouble, Trancy."

And with that, Ciel walks off.

"How rude!" Alois pouts, looking at me. "Your name is Polly, isn't it?"

I nod, growing all anxious and shy once again.

"Well, my name is Alois Trancy, and this is my butler, Claude! Although, I'm sure Ciel has already told you about us," Alois assumes, and I nod, locking eyes with him.

Alois twists around and says something to Claude before skipping off. The other servants get back to work, but I have nothing left to complete.

I just head off and sit on the couch by myself, enclosed in my own thoughts. I seem to float away from reality and into the deepest depths of my mind, reaching for anything I could grab. That is, until I was interrupted by a smooth and assertive voice.

"Polly."

I look up, blinking to come to. I realize that it was Claude who had spoken, and I stare into his golden eyes. "Do you need something, Claude?"

He sits down next to me and replies cooly, "I just wanted to talk with you."

"Alright, then talk."

"No need to be so aggressive."

"Sorry.."

"It's okay."

We continue to have a small conversation, Claude doing the majority of the speaking. I'm still not entirely comfortable around him yet. My shyness doesn't help anything, either.

I eventually ease up a little and we converse about more personal topics, such as our pasts.

It grows late and I yawn, covering my mouth with my hand as I stand. Claude joins me.

(Anybody else yawn?)

"It was nice chatting with you, Claude, but I must be heading to bed now. G'night."

"Goodnight, my lady."

Timeskip-next morning

It's the next day and I'm here to see Claude and Alois off. I'm actually sad to see Claude go, wishing we could spend more time together.

I walk back to my room, hoping to get some more sleep in before my shift starts, when I notice an envelope lying on my bedside table.

When did that get there?

I open it gingerly and read the artistic handwriting of the letter written in black ink.

It's from Claude, and he says that he wants to meet me again soon.

I get this weird feeling, like I'm giddy inside. My heart seemingly begins to race against time, and my knees feel weak.

He listed a time and date for if I agree.

I know where I'll be going next Wednesday.

Timeskip- Weeks later...

I've been hanging out with Claude a lot ever since we first met at the Phantomhive Manor, where I currently work at as a maid.

Lately however, my young lord and Alois Trancy have been getting into small feuds, and I fear that they have progressed to the point that they will actually use weapons.

My fears have been proven to become reality as I open the door to the garden at the Phantomhive household.

There, standing in the field, are the other servants watching (from the sidelines) our two young lords battle it out with swords. I rush over and stand in between Claude and Finny.

"What's going on?" I ask hurriedly, staring at the scene with wide eyes.

"It seems the young lords have had enough of the funny business and began to take matters into more..serious hands," a voice says from behind me.

I twist around and meet the eyes of Sebastian Michaelis.

"We aren't just going to watch this, are we?" I exclaim in exasperation, motioning towards the lords.

"I'm afraid we have been ordered to stay out of it, my lady," Sebastian shakes his head, falling into place as he stands next to Mey-Rin, who is on the other side of Finny.

I face the fight and realization hits me. "He ordered you all to stay out of it, but I wasn't here when that happened. So, technically..."

Claude looks at me in objection and worry, "No, Polly, don't. I know what you're thinking."

I ignore him and his stare, running to the fighting lords, just narrowly missing Claude's hand as he tried to grab me.

"Polly!"

Right when Alois was about to stab Ciel, I rush in, steal Ciel's sword, and block the hit with it. A flash of surprise shows on Trancy's face, and I use his shock to my advantage. I push him away and counter his attack with my own as he pulled himself out of that state.

"You were ordered to stay back from the fight, we're you not?" Alois growls, raising him sword to try and block my strike.

"Actually, she wasn't present when we gave the order, Trancy. She's allowed to do this," Ciel retorts, breathing heavily as he holds his side.

He's wounded.

I can even see the blood on Trancy's sword.

Sebastian immediately moves to help Ciel with his gash so he won't bleed out, and I focus on Alois and his sword.

Alois is weak, and I can tell he's going to drop soon.

Just as he's about to fall, he yells a command, "Claude! Fight for me!"

Claude stands still, frozen in place. He looks like he's denying the command, but he very well could just be shocked.

Annoyed, Alois shouts, "Ugh! Hannah! Fight for me!"

Hannah takes the sword from Alois straight away, then says to me sadly, "I'm sorry."

I shake my head, disregarding her apology as we begin to fight.

She's quick and smooth since she's a demon, but I fair pretty well up against her for a human woman.

Both sides get hurt, and we end at a draw.

All either of us have are cuts and scratches, but we'll definitely have bruises later on.

We return the swords to our masters, when she faces me with an approving look. "You fought well, Polly. Good job."

I give a small smile as I pant lightly, "Thanks. You too."

She nods to me and leaves with Alois to treat to his wounds. Claude had disappeared somewhere.

I shrug it off and speak briefly with the servants, and Sebastian then tends to my small cuts and such. I had also fallen a couple of times, resulting in a scraped knee or elbow.

Ciel will be fine, as well.

Once Sebastian is done, I thank him and walk off with Finny into the manor. Mey-Rin and Bard had carried Ciel inside already, and Sebastian goes to find them.

Finny stayed by my side for support.

As we walked through the halls, I accidentally misstep and stumble a bit. My arm brushed against Finny's and I apologize right after.

He smiles at me, "No, it's alright, Miss Polly! It was a mistake."

Finny touches a hand to my shoulder, and almost in an instant, I'm whisked away and taken into an empty hallway. Then I'm pressed up against a wall by none other than Claude Faustus.

Confused and flustered, I stutter, "C-Claude? Wh-What—"

"You're mine, and he can't have you," is all he mutters, cutting me off, before pressing his lips onto mine, kissing me roughly, yet soft in an unusual way.

I kiss him back, obviously, and smirk into the kiss with a surge of confidence, knowing that he is jealous of Finny.

Jealousy
