Sixteen: Ugly

"Thanks," Jin muttered, before climbing out of the passenger side. He shut the door behind him and made his way tiredly towards the one-storey building of his house.

Jungkook watched him fixedly like an Eagle, hands itching to open his own side, climb out and follow Jin. He wanted so badly to walk him to the door himself. More importantly, he wanted so badly to end whatever this tension that was hanging between them.

But Jin needed to calm down. He was already upset and trying to talk to him in that state might do more harm than good to both of them, so Jungkook sat in the driver side, watching Jin step into the safety of his home.

He wasn't sure what step he'd taken that had been wrong in Jin's eyes but Jin had been obviously mad at him. Jungkook wondered if it had anything to do with his inability to catch that bastard that had had the guts to show up at his place to carry out the nonsense he'd done.

Jin didn't have to worry his pretty head about being mad at him. Jungkook was already mad at himself for the both of them.

Hell! He'd been giving himself shit since the elevator had slammed shut with Cho in it, leaving him with the only option of using the stairs which had made the chase futile even before it had begun. His building was twenty stories high. Cho had definitely left the neighborhood before he'd stepped of the final steps.

"Do you just let anyone into the fucking building?!" He'd yelled at Sudo, the security guard at the door. He was supposed to call and inform any resident of guests and not let just anyone waltz straight to people's apartments.

"I'm sorry, Sir. I had to go to the toilet because—"

"I DON'T CARE!" He'd yelled, making the elderly man cower. The man was the first person he saw after his fruitless chase, so he got the worst attitude of Jungkook. "If you have to leave your goddamn post, at least, make sure someone else is there!"

The entire population of the lobby had their eyes on him. The staffs were shocked, they barely heard his voice. Jungkook was always the quiet one who spoke softly and politely to them, and smiled sweetly.

He was going to yell at Joy for not stopping the man because she was just as guilty but she already looked like she was a second away from fainting and he wasn't in the mood to worry himself with other people's health, so he'd gotten into the elevator where he'd screamed his frustration at the top of his voice.

He'd slacked a little and that had cost him a lot. Seeing Jin like that had hurt his heart to the extreme. It was never going to happen again. That bastard, Cho, was never getting close to Jin without Jungkook sniffing him out.

So, after Jin had gone in, he'd packed his car at the side of the road and reclined his chair a little, then he called Jimin.

"He got close to Jin," Jungkook said into the phone once the call had connected. "The idiot pepper sprayed Jin in front of my apartment today."

"Shit. How did he get so close?" Jimin asked, shocked that something like that was even happening. Jungkook knew why. In the past, Cho would have already been found and paying for his deeds. "You need bodyguards."

"What I need is for you to find him," Jungkook said, his eyes shut, fists clenched just imagining what he was going to do to the assailant.

"I already informed the boys in Seoul to be on the lookout for him. We're checking CCTVs, motels and bars."

Jungkook sat up, irritated . "You're not hearing me. I said for you to FIND. HIM." He enunciated each word, sternly. "I didn't ask you to be on the lookout."

"Of course." After a heartbeat, he added. "Do you have any idea why he's after Jin?"

Jungkook and Jin had a discussion that day and Jin had said he and the man had been close and nothing bad had transpired between them. "I don't. Jin seems to be as shocked by the whole thing as I am. He doesn't know why either."

Jimin let out a sight through the phone. "Have you considered the possibility that he might be behind this?"

"Who?"

"King."

Jungkook sat back tentatively. He propped his elbow against the window and pressed his fingers against his forehead. "He wouldn't." But he would.

"King wouldn't harass a teenage kid?" Jimin asked. "The same one who snuffed out a sixteen year-old just to spite you? He's been talking down about you, telling everyone you betrayed him."

"To hell with him! I was the one who was betrayed by all of you!"

"Take me out of that generalization. I already told you why I did what I did, and I'll do it again and again if it means saving your ass!" Jimin said, riled up. Then he added, more calmly. "Sorry."

"You're right," Jungkook said, taking an involuntary gulp because this possibility could change everything. If—and that was a massive if—King really was behind all of these, then they were fighting a much bigger demon than he'd thought. "If he's the one pulling Cho's strings, then this situation just became uglier."

It would mean Jin was going through all the harassment and assaults because of Jungkook. It would mean an innocent person was suffering because of him. Again.

But if King was doing this, Jungkook wouldn't let it get as bad as the last time. He'd rather die killing King than have anything happen to Jin.

"What should we do? King's gathering more strength here in Thailand. Whatever we have to do, we have to do fast or he's going to do something that we both wouldn't see coming."

Again, Jimin was right. "Does he suspect you're still in contact with me?"

"Not a clue," Jimin said. "As a matter of fact, I'm the chief announcer in spreading the rumour that you betrayed him," he added. "And before you go all 'I betrayed you', it's for your own good. I'm doing this so we wouldn't have him totally blacked out of our sight. He thinks I'm his biggest supporter,"

Jungkook paused a heartbeat. "Are you?" In their line of business, he'd learned that anything goes, your best friend could stab a knife in your back, then turn around and push their middle finger in your face so the pain could hurt a little more.

"I'll take a bullet for you, Jungkook," Jimin said.

"Just one?"

Jimin chuckled. "I'm on your side. Always."

Jungkook nodded. "You better, or I'll kill you," he said, only half joking.

"Got it," Jimin said. "There's a shipment coming into Korea soon. I'm not sure when but he's likely going to make an appearance."

"He's coming to Korea. He hasn't been to Korea in years," Jungkook said, slightly confused. "How important is this shipment?"

"Important," Jimin said. "But not important enough to have him come with it. It's a guise. He's coming for something else," he explained, then added. "Maybe, someone."

Him, Jungkook figured. King was coming for him.

After ending the call with Jimin, Jungkook sat back travelling unwillingly down memory lane. There'd been so many good memories with King, so much that a normal person would be glad to have them.

But he hadn't been normal. He and King hadn't been normal. King had betrayed him, dumping all of the good memories in the mud. Now, every time he thought of the man his heart raced in anger, his fists clenched and his mind ran on the endless ways he wanted to sip the life out of him.

It was around ten when Jin's call came in. Jungkook looked towards his windows on the 1st floor—where he'd been watching Jin all night—and found Jin staring back at his car. The windows were tinted, so Jin couldn't see him.

"Are you outside my house?" Jin asked in a rush.

"I need to make sure he doesn't come back."

"So, you're going to stay in your car all night, watching my house like a creep?" Jin asked voice raised. Jungkook wondered if he was still angry at him. It wouldn't change anything though. He wasn't leaving.

Now that there was a possibility King had something to do with this, his protective side was more on alert than before.

"I have to keep you safe," he responded.

"And who's going to keep you safe?" Jin asked, worry lacing his voice.

Jungkook smiled. He'd thought Jin had been mad but he was just concerned. "I'll be fine."

"Please, go home," Jin urged, his expression turning soft. Sad. Both. "I won't sleep a wink knowing you're just a few feet away from me, away from the comfort of a warm bed. I'll be fine, okay?"

"I'm sorry, baby, but I can't do that." Jin's saftey was his priority at the moment, not a bed to sleep.

Jin stood for a second just watching the car in despair. "Oh, God, Jungkook— Fine. Meet me at the back door in two minutes," Jin said.

He hung up before Jungkook could clarify what he was about to do. But he couldn't lie, whatever Jin wanted to do, he was sure he already liked it.
