Chapter 10: Misunderstandings

Chapter 10: Misunderstandings

Dark dreams that swirled through my mind had dissipated when my eyes fluttered open. Instead of the harsh sound of the rain from last night, I was awoken to the sounds of yelling and cursing around me. Harry's body that represented as my pillow last night was gone, replaced with someone else's jacket, but I could hear his words mixed in with the cross fire of shouting.

"I don't know him!" His deep, rough voice called out. Who was he talking about? What was happening?

"He knows your name for fuck's sake and he knows them." Louis roared after him. I didn't feel like moving or getting up, but when I heard whimpering from my right, I knew that I had to look.

Thalia and Anna were huddled up beside me, my sister-in-law's head against the nurse's chest as scared tears flushed down her face, eyes a little red.

I turned around to see all six Hunters in a group, surrounding a familiar, hard face with a rifle in his dark hands. Felix. His crystal blue eyes were bright next to his cocoa skin with a wild tinge in them. He made sure to keep eye contact with each person that surrounded him, like a gazelle amongst hungry lions. Harry was glaring hard at Louis, ruffling his chocolate curls with his hand as he tried to calm down his old friend's antics.

"He's not dangerous." Harry lowered his voice.

"He pointed his gun at us!" Louis bellowed back, raising his hands at the 'supposed' criminal.

"That's because you did first, you fucking idiot!" Tyler scoffed. His half arm was wrapped in fresh gauze. It was still weird knowing that it was chopped off just yesterday.

"Guys, quiet down before a horde comes down on us." Liam reasoned, but Louis was too busy in his own world of anger and disbelief. His own blue gems narrowed as he travelled them up and down Felix's body, sizing him up before he actually caused any harm.

"Just go before you get killed." Niall told Felix, almost in a pleading manner.

"No! He can't leave. Not until I fuck him up," Louis was able to grab Felix's shirt collar and push him against a nearby wall. Harry and Liam grabbed his shoulders, but Louis was determined to intimidate my friend as he shook off their grips. "You've got a lot of nerve coming in here and threatening my people."

"Your people? They are not your people." I saw Felix nod towards us three girls who were watching from afar. I wanted to calm the storm that was in Louis eyes, to make him let go of Felix, but I knew if I stepped between him and Felix, I would surely be threatened.

"They are under my protection, so as of right now, they are my people." Louis moved Felix away from the wall before slamming Felix's back against the brick wall once more. Harry huffed and was finally able to detach the other Hunter, pushing him harshly. I was surprised that Harry was actually taking Felix's side in all of this since last time he looked like he wanted to disembowel him.

"That's enough, Louis. You're scaring Thalia over there and all of this stress isn't going to help with her pregnancy." Harry tried to reason, saying anything to make Louis calm down. I was grateful he made everyone remember my sister-in-law's condition so that they could relax.

Louis didn't stop glaring at Felix, it was as if the blue in his eyes was true ice. Louis pointed a finger at my friend, but his eyes were trained on Harry. "I want you all gone. Take this military fuck with you and never return. If I see your face again, I will tell the captain and I'll make sure I'm the leader of their next hunt. You being the prey." With that Louis walked away towards where the gate was and opened it dramatically, gesturing for all of us to leave.

Harry didn't move for a minute before he walked away and towards us girls, his head looking straight at the ground. He looked more pissed off than sad. "Tyler, help Anna with Thalia." He called over his sholder as he held out his large hand for me.

I took it gratefully, Louis's jacket hanging loosely off my shoulder as he pulled me up with a jolt. As Tyler helped with my sister-in-law, I walked over to Felix and smiled up at him. "I'm so glad you're here." I whispered to him, so only we could here each other.

"I'm glad you're alright. When you left, I was so worried about you day and night." He chuckled, touching my cheek.

"Come on." A harsh, deep voice said from behind me, causing me to look to see Harry glaring at Felix. He jetted past Louis, giving him one last cold stare before walking out into the foliage infested streets of downtown Boston.

I was the last one to reach the gate, but I stopped in front of Louis, his cobalt blue eyes staring deeply into my grey ones. I shrugged off the jacket and handed it to him. "Here."

"No, keep it. It gets cold at night and you might not have supplies to make a fire," He pushed my arm back to my body. "Plus, it'll help to remember me by," He smiled a bit and it was a genuine one, not his usual smirk that made him a arrogant asshole. "And I'm sorry about last night. It was too personal a question."

I raised an eyebrow at his sudden apology, but I was quick to forgive him. I leaned in and kissed his cheek, my lips feeling the scruff. "Thank you, Louis." I swore I saw a blush creeping in on his cheeks.

"Aria!" Harry's voice boomed at me.

"Go before he decides to kill me." Louis rolled his eyes, making me chuckle and nod. As I began to leave, running footsteps from behind me had me turn around to see Liam and Niall rushing towards the gate, packs slung over their shoulders.

"What're you guys doing?" Louis asked, placing a hand on his hip.

"We want to go with them," Niall said. "We were waiting for a chance to leave the group."

"We can't stand the new captain." Liam added and I looked from Louis to them. Louis' face was blank as he watched his friend's exit, leaving only him and Zayn who was standing on top of the overturned truck, gun in hand as he watched us.

"Are you sure? You'll never be welcomed back." Louis told them, leaning against the gate.

"We're sure." They both said in unison before they left to where Harry and the others were. Louis bit his lip and turned back to me, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Good luck out there and if you ever need to come back here, for whatever reason, you're welcomed to." He smiled and I nodded before rushing to where Harry waited impatiently for me.

"What did he say to you?" Harry asked me as I reached him, his hand immediately placed at the small of my back as if it was its natural spot.

"Nothing. Just saying good bye," I told him. His eyes stayed on Louis and Zayn for a good couple of seconds before he made me turn and lead all of us down the deserted streets, luck being on our sides since no Infected seemed to crowd around us. "That's not a big deal, right?" I asked him, is leading everyone else.

Liam and Niall were walking along the sides of Thalia, seeming really fascinated by the baby inside of her, causing me to smile to myself from their conversation.

Harry sighed and shook his head, pushing his hair back off his forehead. "Depends on how he said goodbye. Knowing him he probably said to come back if you wanted and share his bed."

I looked down. Louis did offer for me to come back, but never said anything about 'sharing his bed'. Make that was the secret message behind his words.

"He didn't and even if he did, why would you care?" I asked him. He's been so protective lately that it makes me wonder what's going on. Yesterday he hated me then tolerated me. Now, he's protective and territorial when it comes to me and the other girls, but mainly me and it irks me.

Harry didn't answer immediately, only pushing me around muddy puddles and neglected, rusty cars that have deteriorated over time.

"Where are we going?" Niall piped up from behind us. It was a good question. Everyone looks to Harry, already naming him the leader of this group.

"To the old look out building on the corner of the West End District. That pace hasn't been used in two years. It should be safe. Once we exit out of that section in the morning, we'll be past any Hunter or military patrols." He informed everyone, making it seem like a good idea.

I've personally never been to the West End District, only lived in the East part. The East was more secluded and only held a few refugee camps for survivalists, but was still crawling with Infected. The West End, I heard, was seaming with Hunters and Infected alike. We were on the very top of the West, so nothing was really out of the normal.

_________

It's been two hours since we've been at the gas station. We've taken a few stops for Thalia's sake, her swollen stomach too much too handle. We ran into an Infected, almost losing Niall as it pushed him against a wall, but Harry was there with the machete we held.

Felix was always trying to tear me away from Harry's grip, this time his hand being on my waist as if I was some sort of prize he couldn't let go. It was fine, but I didn't want him to think he was able to control me with just the graze of his fingers or his words.

As we neared the top of the steep road, we saw the look out building Harry had mentioned. He sighed in relief as it came in sight, a small smile on his lips causing faint indents in his cheeks.

"Fucking finally," Tyler huffed out, wiping his forehead with his shirt sleeve. "I felt like I was gonna pass out." He complained the whole way and everyone was getting sick of it.

Harry rolled his eyes, "Motherfucking pain in the ass." He muttered, causing a small giggle to come from my lips. He chuckled too, his arm bringing me closer in a side hug.

A clearing of the throat caused both Harry and I to turn our heads. Felix walked over to my side, his unnatural blue eyes against dark skin seemingly threatening. "Hands to yourself, prick." He told Harry. But that only caused the curly haired boy next to me to laugh.

"I'm being friendly. It's just a hug. You probably haven't even been this far with a girl." Oh my God, Harry. I knew he wasn't trying to make me feel uncomfortable, but putting me in the middle of this is just wrong. I watched as Felix's eyes widened and his mouth let an irritated sigh escape.

"I have too." Felix sneered. We came up to the steps of the very tall building and Harry grinned some more as he did a quick turn to Felix.

"How far?" He was going to make Felix snap, but I was pretty sure that's what he was going for.

"Harry, stop." I warned, glaring at him.

"You need to stop being so overly sensitive." Harry said to Felix as he pulled out a pin from his pocket to pick the lock of the door.

"I'm not sensitive." Felix shook his head, gripping his rifle tightly in his hands.

"Fine. I'll be the mature one," As the lock clicked open, he moved the creaky wooden door, holding it wide open for the others to go in as Felix, Harry and I stayed out. "I'm sorry-,"

"Thank you." Felix nodded about to go in.

"-that you're so sensitive like a little bitch." Harry finished, causing Felix to flip him off and walk after the rest of the group as Harry closed the door behind him and me as we entered the brick house.

"You're such a pest, you know that?" I turned and said to him as he came up next to me, a childish grin on his face, his dimples deeper than before.

He shrugged, "I could've said worse. Like how stupid he walks."

"Stop." I said as we walked up the stairs, but a small smile played on my lips.

"How terrible his hair looks." He continued and I shook my head.

"Harry, you better stop." I pointed a finger at him.

"How small his dick probably is." I pushed his chest, trying to shut him up, bust as I did he pushed me against the wall, an amused expression on his face as he placed his head close to mine, his green eyes seeming darker as he studied my face. My breathing became shallower and slower as I watched him, wondering what he would do next. I was actually terrified.

He didn't say anything, only let his hand come up and brush back a piece of fallen hair behind my ear. His thumb brushed against my cheekbone to my lower lip, the rough pad of his thumb harsh against the soft flesh of my lip.

"Harry...," I whispered, trying to make him say something, anything because I wanted to make sure as to what the hell was going on. I was so confused. We've only known each other for a little over two days and yet we have faintly flirted and now these butterflies or whatever in my stomach seem to be going off as if they were trying to break out.

His lips inched further and I placed my hands on his shoulders, not really sure if I was pushing him away or pulling him nearer. His nose brushed the edge of mine and I could feel his warm breath caress my lips. Did I want this? I still didn't know what was going on.

As I watched his eyes shut, his lips drew nearer and I held my breath once they grazed mine. His body pressed against mine, his arms snaking around under my thighs and picked me up to sit on the railing of the stairs. He placed himself between my open legs and moaned into the kiss when my hands found his hair, tugging lightly on his curls and pulling him closer to me by having my legs wrap around his waist.

I had no idea what I was doing. I was making out with a Hunter. A harmful and ruthless human being that kills for the heck of it. But Harry was different. He showed compassion and protected my sister-in-law when he didn't have to.

His hand found its was down to my thigh, slowly making its way further up towards where my most sensitive area was. Harry's sinful lips bit down on my lip before dragging them lower to my jawline and against my pale neck, licking and sucking to try and find that one sweet spot that will cause him to possibly control me.

I couldn't suppress the moan that emitted its way through my mouth. My fingers tugged harshly on his hair, causing him to bite down on the skin above my collarbone, his fingers closer to the part between my legs.

"Whoa," A loud chuckle came from behind Harry. I gasped and pushed him away from me, making him stumble but he was able to catch himself on the opposite railing. Tyler stood there, a huge mischievous grin on his face as he took in the sight before him. "You're lucky I was the one that came out here. Felix was about to barge in, but carry on! I didn't see anything. I'll make an excuse for you two." He proceeded back into the room and closed the door behind him.

I couldn't even think of anything to say. I was totally embarrassed and ashamed of myself. I just made out with someone I met only two days ago! I should be more worried about Thalia and her baby than the dirty thoughts that swirled around in my mind at the moment.

"I'm sorry," Harry finally spoke. I looked up to see him with his head down and his hand sliding through his hair. "I shouldn't have-"

"Harry," I cut him off and he looked up at me, a hint of regret and even a bit of lust in his eyes, or that might have been just me. "It was a mistake." I told him.

Something in the way his face hardened and how his eyes turned dark had me move closer to the wall. Any softness in his eyes had disappeared and he looked like the same Harry from the day at the hospital.

"Let's go inside." He moved away from his side towards the door that everyone was behind. He didn't wait for my answer as he roughly pushed open the door and trudged inside.

I stayed out a bit longer, my heart beat slowly falling to a normal pace and my mind wondering what the hell I said wrong. It was a mistake. Surely he knew that just as well as me. It shouldn't have happened because nothing can go on between us. It was just a moment of stupid teenage passion that we thought was real, but now that I was away from him, I did realise that I needed to push any 'feelings' I had towards him away so I could focus on more important things: Thalia and our destination.

There was no room for romance in an apocalyptic world.

I sighed and finally went in, closing the door behind me. The room was bigger than the living area at the old apartment; cots were against the walls and a fireplace had a spitting fire in there.

"Good thing you had that nail file. Girl things do come in handy." Tyler chuckled at Anna who blew the end of her file like a gun.

"You'd be surprise." She smirked and I swore he blushed.

I made my way over to where Thalia was, lying on a cot on her side with a gentle hand placed to her stomach. I needed someone to take my mind off of what just happened.

"Hey." I smiled and kneeled next to her.

"Hi," she smiled back and rubbed her thumb against her stomach. "Are you okay? You look flustered. Is something wrong?"

"Must have been from the walk here," I nodded and I was glad she took the bait because I didn't want to have to explain to my sister-in-law my ridiculous teen problems. "How are you?"

"Pregnant. That's all I need to pretty much say." She laughed.

I looked around the room to see no sign of either Harry, Liam, or Niall. "Where are the others?"

"They're in another room. I heard your Hunter say something about Washington D.C.." She said. My Hunter. He wasn't mine, I wasn't his. Simple. But just those two words had those stupid butterflies flutter once more.

"I'll be right back." I kissed her temple before walking down a long hallway to try and find the three other Hunters. A few voices could be heard coming from down the hall, rushed and quiet as if in urgency.

I didn't even bother knocking as I opened the door. Harry, Niall, and Liam were all sitting in three chairs that were facing each other, a coffee table sitting in the middle of them. Obviously this was used as a meeting room before it was abandoned.

They all looked up and as I caught Harry's eyes, they were cold. I wanted to avert my eyes from the intense gaze, but I held my ground.

"What's the plan?" I asked, closing the door behind me as I walked around to stand between Liam and Niall's chairs. Liam looked to Harry as if for conformation.

Harry sighed, "Turns out the place was burned down. Liam and Niall heard from the radio communicator from the Hunter camp there. They lit fire to it once they heard about what was going on at the military camps." He rubbed his hands together.

"So, what now?" Great. Just great. Now there was nothing left, no reason for us to keep going. Thalia made it this way for nothing.

"We were thinking about Fort Brotherford. Apparently some of what we need has been moved there and also the people we have to talk to," Harry told me. "It's located in Florida. It'll be a shorter and harder journey, but worth it." His voice held barely any emotion.

"I don't think Thalia can handle anymore to be honest." I said.

"Then stay here with her or leave her." Harry looked back at me with hard, cold eyes. The room's temperature seemed to drop as his glare made my body shiver on the inside. Even Liam and Niall looked uncomfortable.

"You don't expect me to just leave her? And my friends for that matter." I asked him.

"Then don't come," He moved off his seat to walk near me. I moved back from him as he came closer. Once he reached me, he leaned in and I thought he was going to kiss me again until I heard the click of the door open and I realised he wanted me to leave. "You have tonight to make a decision. We're leaving at first light, so if you don't have an idea as to what you're doing, then you're getting left behind. You better think quick." I moved as he opened the door more.

"Fuck you," I spat at him. He just stood there and waited for me to leave, nothing in his eyes telling me to stay or anything to let me know he didn't mean it. "I was wrong. I thought you were different from every one of those cruel Hunters, but I can see you proved me wrong. You play with my emotions then you basically tell me to make a choice between you and Thalia."

"I'm giving you a choice between your sister-in-law and the only way of surviving this world. I'm not asking you to choose me," He was about to close the door, but stopped, "First light." And then the door closed in my face.
