Red Cheeks and Small Cafes'
The next morning when I woke up I had several text from Killian. I panicked at first wondering if something happened and then I looked at the actual messages.he was such a child.
Jones: Emmaaaaa im bored and I can't sleep
Jones: Are you awake?
Jones: Emmmaaaaa
Jones: I guess your sleeping☹
Jones: in that case..
Jones: GOODNIGHTTTT😵
Oh lord. I sat up and texted him back trying not to laugh.
Me: I was asleep thank you very much and you are such a child🙄
It didnt take him long to respond.
Jones: Sorry? Your still up for coffee today right?
Me: Of course! I can't wait☺ Now leave me alone so I can get ready!
Jones: Alright alright! See you soon Swan🤗
I laughed at his dorkiness and got up to take a shower. When I walked into the bathroom my first thought was the wall color. God it was ugly. I mentally made a note to get it painted soon.
After I took a shower I got dressed in a white sweater, jeans, and brown boots.
I let my hair down like normal and put a little bit of makeup on and pretty much skipped out the door.
I was unexpectedly excited for thisdate? I wasnt quite sure what it was. All I knew was that I couldnt wait for it any longer.
When I got outside I took a taxi to the hotel from last night and waited outside for him.
Me: I just got here
Jones: Alright! I'm almost there.
I put my phone back in my pocket and saw a taxi pull up and Killian jump out with a smile on his face.
He was wearing a black leather jacket and a button up shirt underneath. God he was handsome.
He walked up to me and grabbed my hand.
"You ready swan?"
I smiled.
"Yup." He lightly pulled my hand in the direction of what I assumed was the coffee shop we were going to.
After walking in comfortable silence for a while I asked where we were going.
"I can't tell you Swan, that would ruin the surprise. We're almost there though."
I laughed and we continued walking until we came to a small café in the middle of Central Park.
"The Ugly Duckling café? What's this place?" I asked.
"It's a small diner but it's food is absolutely amazing. Not many people know about it though. I suppose its sort of a hidden gem" he said with a wink.
I laughed and followed him inside. We sat down at a small booth and a waiter came up to us and took our orders for drinks.
"Can I have a Hot Chocolate with cinnamon please?" I asked.
Killian ordered a small coffee and turned back to me.
"Cinnamon?"
I blushed.
"It's something I've loved since I was a kid. You should try some!"
When our drinks came I pushed mine in front of him .
He looked at it cautiously and then slowly raised it up to his mouth with one eyebrow raised.
When he took a sip his face lit up.
"That's bloody amazing!"
We both laughed and I took my drink back before he drank it all.
The next hour was probably the most fun I had had in the last 20 years of my life.
We talked about anything and everything.
"So how on Earth did you end up working with a arrogant jerk as your business partner?" I asked Killian.
He let out a small chuckle.
"Our parents were best friends. They owned the company and when they all died in a car crash when I was 19 me and Neal were left to take over. One of these days I want to start my own company. I'm not sure how much longer I can put up with his crap."
"I would've been done with him by now." I laughed.
We continued talking for a while and when the subject of my family came up I quickly changed the topic. I didnt need his pity along with everyone else.
Unfortunately he noticed and wouldnt let the subject drop.
"Emma, you can tell me anything. I won't judge you."
For some reason I believed that so I started telling him my story.
"I dont have a family, when I was born the left me on the side of the freeway. I grew up in foster homes and never got adopted and when I turned 18 I went out on my own."
He gave me a sad smile.
"I'm sorry love, you didnt deserve that. And before you say it I'm not giving you pity. I know how it feels to grow up alone. Although my parents didn't die until I was older they were never around. My father was always working and my mother was always in her room painting. I was taught to be independent."
It felt good to know that I had someone that understood me. After all you can't love someone you dont understand.WAIT WHAT! No Emma you do not love him! You just met him for gods sake.
What are your walls for if you let a random guy break them down in less then a day.
But despite everything I knew that Killian was different. Something about him was special and I wasnt afraid he would hurt me.
"Thanks for understanding. I hate when people give me pity. It won't change what happened to me and I dont need it."
He grabbed my hand across the table.
"I understand Emma, I really do."
I smiled and Killian waved the waiter over and paid the check despite my attempts to let me pay for my own meal.
After we left the café we walked around the park for a while.
My hand brushed against Killian's and I wanted to grab it and never let go but I wasnt sure how he would react. I looked up at him and saw him smiling down at me.
"What?" I teased.
"Nothing, I just can't get over how beautiful you are."
My cheeks flushed bright red and I looked down at the ground to hide the blush.
Killian noticed and stopped in his tracks.
"Dont hide your blush from me, there's no need to be embarrassed. I didnt mean to make you uncomfortable."
"Oh no Killian! You didnt make me feel uncomfortable I'm just not used to being complimented. If I am its by drunk guys trying to use me or jerks like Neal."
"Well get used to it because every time I lay my eyes on you I will make sure you know just how amazing you are."
I blushed fiercely again but this time didnt try to hide it. Instead I grabbed his hand and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
Now it was his turn to go red.
As we continued to walk I didn't let go of his hand until we got to my apartment.
When we got there I unlocked my door and turned around.
"Do you want to come in for some coffee?"
He smiled.
"I'd love to."
I let him in and went to the kitchen to make some coffee.
Then I went and sat on the couch.
"So what got you into the publishing business?" Killian asked me.
"Oh well, I originally wanted to be a writer but when that didnt work I found something I could do with an English major and found I enjoyed it.to a degree. I would still love to be a writer."
He smiled at me and leaned back.
"Well I think you would make a wonderful author. And if you ever get the time you know a great publisher that would gladly publish your book."
I laughed.
"Yeah I'm not sure Neal would publish anything of mine after the other night."
He frowned and puckered his lip out.
"I was referring to myself I would definitely publish your book no mater what it was."
I laughed.
"Well thank you, I will come to you if I ever write another book."
We both laughed and continued talking about random things.
Then I got an idea.
What if I could figure out if he even had met his 'true love'.
"Hey Killian I need your advice on something. I'll be right back."
I ran upstairs and grabbed two dresses in the same style but in different colors.
"Ok, which one do you like better? The blue one or the red one?" I asked Killian went I got downstairs.
He sat there for a second and the smiled.
"The red one, it would go amazing with your eyes and hair color."
I couldn't help from smiling.
"Oh really?"
"Yeah."
I didn't know what to do now. Should I ask him who his soulmate was? Ughhh that plan back fired.
"So besides your brother do you have any family?" I asked.
"Nah. I'm kind of a loner. I have the same routine everyday, eat, work, sleep, repeat."
I laughed.
"So you took time out of your busy schedule for me?" I laughed.
He smirked.
"Yup! I like you Emma Swan, your different."
Now I was blushing like crazy. Of course he couldnt have meant it like that. Right?
"Your not too bad your self Jones."
He laughed and looked at his watch.
"Dang it. I'm afraid I have to get going. If I dont Neal might have my head."
"Ok! I'll see you soon!"
He smiled.
"I hope so."
And with that he walked out the door leaving me more confused then ever.
