Achates (cont.)

Chapter 3: What we do in Rome

Day 125, 37 Days since:

I lounge in the loveseat, taking up the entire thing with my legs spread, and my arms on the top of the back cushions. On the sofa is Citrine, cuddled in a fetal position. She murmurs things about a TV show that has something to do with... camps? I smirk and see Sphalerite come my way.

"She's peaceful when she sleeps... No?" she spoke.

"Yeah, if only she talked this much when she is awake." I chuckled.

She was at peace, though, the crisp winter air rushed in and cooled the temple. She was wrapped up in a cozy blanket. I sat there with my coffee swirling in my mug.

"What's the agenda for today" I inquire.

"Training, Agate's room"

Typical, Agate's been training us nonstop, since we're going to attack a Homeworld slave ship or something tomorrow. Whatever, yesterday we took down an entire Kindergarten inside out. All of the gems will be replaced with tree... uh... whatchamacallits. Oh. Seeds. Anyways, they'll replace the ones that were about to be destroyed because of the Kindergarten.

I sigh, and decide to go to the kitchen, it's filled with food, and I'm starving after all that work, which is odd, 'cause gems don't need to eat. I start pouring cereal, marshmallows, and chocolate chips all into one thing. I melt them all together to create a sort of human treat. I'm too stressed to wait for it to dry, so, I get the ladle, and do it the old fashioned way.

"You're gonna get sick." Agate says, as I feel her burning cold hands on my shoulders.

"Not if I believe in myself." I say, with determination.

We're silent, and we watch a bunch of episodes of crying breakfast friends. After that, we train for at least 3 years. Let's just say, for someone who misses someone they only met after around 80 days of their creation, 3 years is a lot.

Day 1,220, 1,132 Days Since:

Agate hold her hand up, and tells us that it's time for a break. The rest of the gems seem to see this as a normal occurrence, so it's odd to see them not look so winded. I crash onto the ground, wining a little bit.

"Alright you guys ready for more?"

Literally 50 years later

Day 19,470, 19,382 Days Since:

Time is blurring together, it's been 53 years since we started training for this one mission, I guess it's important. I'm not worried, though, we've practically mastered what we're going to do. Tonight we attack a Gem ship dedicated to transporting Beryl's back home if they live too long or start developing philosophical or moral ideas. It's a ship of death, sent for other gems. If I were to have stuck around, I would've been on that ship, to have my gem get crushed by someone I don't even know. Tonight's the night, and you might ask- Beryl, why would you wait 59 years to attack a Beryl slave ship? Well it's different this time, because now, Yellow Diamond is on it. We chant a song as we walk to the Diamond Destroyer, which will soon live up to its name.

On Diamond Dust the Gems will stand

As they hold the other's hand.

The spark leads to rebellion

Don't be afraid to tell them.

We stand up against Authority

Because those clods don't seem to see.

That the gems, the Earth, are valuable

So we'll sing them our parable.

Now, as we sing this, Iolite gathers us in a circle. She speaks up, and her face looks determined.

"Guys, I have a different gem ability than most do." She says, suspiciously.

"Just trust me, if you guys just sit in this circle, this will work."

We do as she says. She draws a circle in the middle, and lights blue candles around it, it feels odd to have done this around the fountain. But she insists. Once she lit the final candle, her eyes went completely white, and she rose from the ground. I knew she was a gypsy gem, but she can do fortunes? Hah, I probably shouldn't tell that to her face.

"Yes I read fortunes." She speaks, and apparently knew I was going to say that.

"Now, everyone join hands around the fountain."

We do as she says,

"Now repeat as I say: Et incipit prophetiae "

Take a guess what we do next.

The fountain melts, and turns into water, just plain water, but sunk in an inch so it's retained. I've never seen water so undisturbed. The blue candles seem to have tiny droplets of the dark blue water on them, then I realize that the flames have been replaced with a bright blue flare.

"I-" I start to say, but Iolite hushed me, as if I broke something.

"Oh- the ghosts of enchantments, please, turn our simple words into large prophecies." She spoke.

She motions for us to sing our song.

On Diamond Dust the Gems will stand

As they hold the other's hand.

The spark leads to rebellion

Don't be afraid to tell them.

We stand up against Authority

Because those clods don't seem to see.

That the gems, the Earth, are valuable

So we'll sing them our parable.

We finish, and as we do, the water transfigures into a needle, where we hear a song that mimics ours.

We grant the gems their wishes

It does not come without catches

Their prophecy is set in stone

No matter what they don't condone

The needle mimics their chanting

It fulfills what they're wanting

Though some wishes aren't always straight

They normally have a twisted fate

Their voice trails off as we grab the needle.

I try and listen carefully to their words, they seemed so purposeful with their meanings. I wonder if we should have done the same. We walk into the Diamond Destroyer, and finally set course. I'm nervous, I've never killed a gem before, heck, I haven't even bubbled one. I sit down and lean on the wall, this reminds me of leaning back to back with Eta. That was such a long time ago. I just sit down and try to calm myself down. I hold Eta close to me, even her flower form is still comfortable.

"I'll do this for you Eta, I'll kill whoever did this to you" I say, low enough so nobody hears.

Little did everyone else know that this is the same crew that sent me and Eta to Earth. I would be able to kill whatever gem thought it would be smart to destroy Eta. MY ETA. I will take their gem and bury it in the GROUND once I'm done with them.

I decide that I wanted to explore the Diamond destroyer. I don't know why, I just really was bored. It's not like we were weeks away from the Ship, if anything, we're just a couple hours since we have to wait for them to fly near the general area of the river. I start to look through people's stuff, the first thing to catch my eye was Iolite. She was- guess what? Decorating her bunk. Citrine was sprawled out sleeping on her belongings. Agate wouldn't let me near her things, so all I had left was Emerald. All I see is a small journal, with a symbol drawn on it, it seems a bit odd. I can only guess what it means. I can tell it hasn't been open for a while. Me, being the arrogant gem that I am, thought that I could sneak this away and not get caught. I was right, she didn't notice. Whatever, though.

I can see the ship in sight, and I cradle Eta in my hands. I whisper to her our battle cry. I then speak in a soft voice:

"Eta, I'll avenge you. Whoever took your form away... heh, heh. They're gonna have a bad time".
