Chapter 4 Its Too Late For You and Your White Horse
Lyric got all of her anger, and grief out of her system before she started the drive home. She couldn't show that she was crying, not to her dad, not to Symphony. She should have never let Killian once again let her lose sight of what was important to her.
Once she got to the apartment, she opened the door and walked inside without looking up she walked into the kitchen.
"Hey honey." Darren said.
"Hey." She said softly. "Sym asleep?"
"Nah, shes in her room watching cartoons. So how is Victor doing?" Darren asked. Lyric poured some coffee.
"Vics great Dad." She said and picked up the coffee sipping at it before walking into the livingroom and nearly spitting it out at the sight of Victor sitting on the couch.
"And..hes sitting in the living room..greeeat." Lyric sighed.
"Rookie mistake." Victor smirked.
Darren crossed his arms and raised his eyebrow.
"Oh.. Don't give me that look." Lyric said. "I am an adult now."
"So why did you lie to me?" Darren asked.
"Because.. If I told you where I actually was last night, at that moment, it would have gone horribly wrong, but now that I don't give two shits about what happens to him, I was with Killian." Lyric shrugged and sipped at her coffee casually while Darren and Victor both looked at her speechless.
"Wait.. what? He's in town??" Darren asked. "Why didn't you tell me."
"It didn't seem necessary at the the time." Lyric explained. "I told him to stay away from me, but you know he didn't listen and last night I ended up drinking with him, going to his motel room and.. I'll leave out the explicit details, this morning I woke up and he was talking to his fiance on the phone. Whos hungry?"
Jefferson who Lyric thought was asleep in the recliner raised his hand. Victor threw a throw pillow from the couch at him.
"Really dude?" He sighed "Are you okay?" Victor asked.
Lyric nodded. "Yep. I punched him in the nose, told him not to look for me, and walked out. Scrambled, right Jeffy?" Lyric asked and walked into the kitchen pulling eggs out of the fridge.
"You know it." Jefferson mumbled. Darren walked into the kitchen. He knew his kid and the first three months after Killian left four years ago was a nightmare. He knew that there was no way, Killian Jones came back and everything was as peachy as she was selling it to be. Lyric turned on the stove and put a pan down and started the eggs.
"Lyric.." Darren said.
"Yeah?" Lyric asked
"Really, are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah Dad, I'm fine." Lyric smiled but her blue eyes were clouded over and telling a different story.
"I mean, Was I really supposed to think that after four years he'd come back and everything would go back to normal? Was I supposed to think that somewhere somehow he still loved me. And was I supposed to believe it when he said he was sorry?" Lyric asked her voice was shaking as she scrambled the eggs in the pan.
"That would just make me the world's biggest idiot wouldn't it?" Lyric asked with tears rolling out of her eyes.
"Lyric.. Honey." Darren said and put his hand on her shoulder.
"I'm fine. really. Stir these while I put the bread in the toaster." She said and wiped her eyes and walked over to the toaster and put the bread in.
"Did you say anything about Sym?" Darren asked. Lyric shook her head.
"No." She replied.
"Good." Darren sighed. Lyric walked back over to the eggs to stir. Symphony walked out of her room and tugged on Lyrics shirt. Lyric smiled down at her and lifted her gently minding her stitches from surgery.
"Wanna help mommy make breakfast?" She asked. Symphony nodded excitedly and Lyric handed her the spatula. "Just stir they're almost done."
"Needs cheese." Symphony said. Lyric looked at Darren.
"You heard the kid, get the cheese from the fridge." She smirked.
"Of course." Darren chuckled and walked to the fridge to get the cheese out and handed it to Lyric. Lyric opened the bag and Symphony stuck her hand in it and sprinkled cheese all over the eggs.
"My belly hurts a little." Symphony said.
"Yeah? Well after you eat a little breakfast we can take some medicine and you can lay down okay?"
Symphony nodded Lyric set her down.
"Go tell Uncle Jeffy you are going to eat all his eggs if he doesn't come and get them." Lyric smiled as Symphony giggled and hurried off into the living room.
It was now the middle of the afternoon, Lyric was laying down with Sym in her room. Darren walked to the room and opened the door slightly to peek in and sighed. It had been a couple of hours, and Lyric was still crying quietly. Tink had an short shift at work so she came home early and walked down the hall. Darren closed the door.
"How is she?" Tink asked.
"Not good." Darren sighed. She was doing, okayish until Sym fell asleep and now shes been crying for the last two hours."
"The nerve of that man.." Tink grumbled.
"Yeah." Darren said and grabbed his coat.
"Where are you going?" Tink asked.
"I'm going to that Sushi place Lyric likes to get her something to eat before she has to go to work tonight."
Tink put her hands on her hips.
"You are both horrible liars Mr. Mckenna. Lyric hates sushi. Where are you really going?"
"I plead the fifth." Darren replied.
"Okay, fine. But we can barely afford rent, there's no way we can bail you out of jail." Tink raised an eyebrow.
Darren cocked his head to the side.
"Lyric told me that you two were doing fine." He said.
Shit. Lyric is going to kill me. Tink thought.
"Uh.. Yeah. We are fine. You better go, Killian's face needs punching and all." Tink said shooing him out the door.
"Now who is the horrible liar? We will talk later." Darren narrowed his eyes and walked out of the apartment.
------------------------------------------------------------
Darren knocked on the hotel room door. It was pulled open and Killian leaned against the frame.
"Shit.." He sighed as he looked at Darren.
"Hey Killian." Darren said and grabbed him by the shirt pulling him into the hallway and slamming him into the wall. Killian groaned.
"What are you doing here Killian?" Darren asked.
"I had to see her." Killian said. "I just wanted to see her."
"Well, you did and now shes a mess all over again because of you. Why the hell did you even bother?"
"Because.. I miss her. I love her."
"If you loved her you would have left her alone!" Darren growled at him. "If you loved her you wouldn't have left her in the first place! I trusted you! SHE trusted you!"
"I know. I'm sorry. I didn't want to leave!" Killian shouted.
"Then why did you?!" Darren demanded fighting off the urge to punch Killian in the face.
"Jack." Killian sighed. "He told me if I didn't end things with Lyric he would tell Juilliard that we were dating. I sent the recommendation letter, and set up her audition, if Juilliard found out that we were together she would have been instantly taken out of the program, and probably expelled from the school with no chance of readmission." Killian explained. Darren released him.
"Wait..what? Jack.. did this?" He asked.
"Yeah. I couldn't fuck up Lyrics future so as much as I hated leaving her, I had to." Killian said.
"God Damn that man.." Darren sighed. "Lyric doesn't know about this?" He asked. Killian shook his head.
"No.. I don't think it would change anything now." He sighed.
"About that.. What were you thinking? You are engaged, and then you come to new york and fool around with Lyric??" Darren asked.
"I wasn't thinking to be honest. It was stupid, I know. Don't worry.. I'm leaving tonight back to Storybrooke." Killian frowned.
"Probably for the best." Darren said. It sucked that Jack was the one who really messed things up, the first time but Killian royally fucked up this time and Darren wasn't just protecting his daughter, he was protecting his granddaughter.
"Can you just tell her I'm sorry?" Killian asked. Darren shook his head.
"Its not going to change anything Killian. I don't think she believes you anymore."
"Right." Killian nodded. "I have to go finish packing up. See you around." Killian said and walked with his head down back into the room.
-----------------------------------------------------------
When Lyric walked into the bar for work, she knew something was wrong. Ruby wouldn't even look at her for starters, neither would half of the other staff. Lyric sighed and walked over to the Bar were Ruby was.
"Whats up?" She asked.
"Boss needs you in his office." Ruby said and winced. "Sorry Lyric."
"Sorry? What for?"
"Just go see Rick." She said and walked away with a platter of drinks. Lyric groaned, God only knew what she was about to walk into. She walked towards the back and knocked on the manager's door.
"Come in."
Lyric opened the door and stepped in. Rick instantly glared at her.
Great.
"Ruby said you wanted to see me." Lyric said and sat down.
"I did. When I came in to open, there was an open bottle of rum and two glasses set out on the bar, the bar was still a mess so I reviewed tape and found you drinking."
"Fuck.. Rick, i'm so sorry I'll pay for the bottle, and I'll stay two hours later tonight and clean everything." Lyric pleaded.
Rick shook his head. "No, you're fired." He said.
"No.. Rick please, I need this job I have a kid. I'm barely making it as is. Please.." Lyric said. "I'll do anything."
A creepy grin spread across his weasley face and now she understood why he made Ruby so uncomfortable.
"Anything..you say?"
"Well.. that depends on what you mean.." Lyric said eyeing him as he stood up and stalked over to her chair. He put his hands on the arms of her chair and leaned in.
"I think, you know what I mean Lyric. How badly do you need this job?"
Ew. God.. no.
"No.. I.. think I'm good. I'll just leave now."
"Are you sure?" Rick asked and leaned in closer his lips brushed her neck and she shuddered his hand left the arm of the chair and squeezed her inner thigh.
"Come on Lyric, help me help you.." He murmered and his lips left her neck and crashed into hers. Lyric thought she would gag right then and there. She lifted her arms and pushed him away standing from the chair.
"I said, I was good you creep!" She glared and stormed out of the office feeling like her skin was crawling. She walked behind the bar and grabbed her things and was heading out the door when Killian walked in.
As if the night couldn't get any damn worse.
"Lyric.. Hey.."
Lyric rolled her eyes and tried to walk past him but he pulled her back.
"Where are you going shouldn't you be working?" Killian asked.
"No, I shouldn't because I got fired Killian." Lyric spat.
"Shit.. sorry, theres nothing you can do to get your job back??" Killian asked.
"No, Not unless I want to sleep with Rick the Prick." She grumbled.
"Wait.. what?!"
"He tried to get me to do things with him." Lyric shuddered.
"Did he fucking touch you?!" Killian demanded.
"Killian just leave it." Lyric sighed. "I'm leaving. Its whatever."
"No. You stay here." Killian said and walked towards the office as Rick was walking out.
"You Rick?" Killian asked.
"Yeah, Killian I let you play here the other night."
Killian reared back and clocked him right in the jaw.
"You are a sick fuck!"
Lyric walked over.
"Killian stop!" She said.
"Give the lady her job back." Killian demanded and punched him again
"Killian! I don't want my job back! I don't want to work for this creep. Just drop it." Lyric yelled.
"Come on, let me walk you to your car." Killian said and put his hand on her shoulder.
"No!" Lyric said and pushed him away. "Just leave me alone, you've done enough." She shouted at him
"Lyric I'm sorry.. Please just let me talk to you." Killian begged.
"No. I appreciate the heroics but it's too late. Just..stay away." She said and backed away from him with her hand out before turning around and leaving the bar.
-------------------------------------------------------------
When Lyric returned to the apartment, Darren stood from the couch.
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
"I got fired." Lyric mumbled and sat down with her head in her hands sniffling.
"Hey.. we'll figure it out." Darren said.
"Its fine. I can just get a new job." Lyric said.
"According to Tink things are not fine. You're two months behind on rent?"
"Damn it Tink.." Lyric sighed.
"Look, I already talked with Tink.. but I think its best you guys come home. Tink's already called her parents. Your room is still your room. Sym can bunk with Quin and your mother and I wouldn't have to worry about you getting mugged. Please I know you like your independe-"
"I can really come home?" Lyric asked. She did love her independence, but after dealing with Rick tonight she really just wanted to feel safe and New York just wasn't doing that for her anymore.
"Of course you can come back home sweetheart, that was always an option."
Lyric stood and walked over and wrapped her arms around her father.
"I guess I'm coming home then." She said.
