Chapter 20 I'm Forever Yours, Faithfully
A/N: There is a massive time skip towards the end of this chapter so make sure you look for the marker. Its in bold. Also be sure to read the notes at the end! <3
When Lyric woke up the next morning, her head was throbbing. She groaned and rolled over.
"Never, ever let me drink that much again." She mumbled and went to put her arm over Killian but he wasn't there. She sat up and rubbed her eyes and yawned and pulled the blanket up over her chest and stood up, wrapping the blanket around her and walked over to the window to look out it. Vegas was almost an entirely different place in the morning and while she was sad to be leaving it today, she was ready to get back to her normal life, and her daughter. She walked over to the table in the room where Killian left a note.
"Mrs. Jones,
I stepped out to get breakfast for us, But considering you went through almost an entire bottle complimentary hotel wine by yourself last night, I will likely be back before you wake up.
Much love,
Your husband. :)"
Lyric smiled and giggled at the note and looked down at the ring on her finger and walked over to the nightstand to grab her phone. She sent him a quick text
"Its Mrs.Mckenna-Jones, sir and an extra shot of espresso in my coffee please."
It was only a few minutes before his reply came back.
"Already got your heart attack coffee, Mrs. Mckenna-Jones. Call me sir again and we wont make our flight this afternoon ;)"
Lyrics face turned crimson and she looked up as Killian walked into the room with a big smirk plastered on his face.
"How long were you standing outside the door before you sent that text?" Lyric asked.
"A few minutes and then I took a couple extra seconds to give your face time to turn that particular shade of red." He smiled and handed her, her coffee.
Lyric took the coffee and took a sip.
"Give me a minute to put clothes on and we can eat. Whatever you picked up smells delicious."
"Well last night, you went on a rant about french toast. So..I brought french toast." Killian chuckled.
"God..please don't let me ever drink that much again." Lyric laughed and dropped the blanket she had wrapped around her to get dressed.
She returned to the table where Killian had the food set out and she sat down.
"So..last night." Killian said.
"Last night was wild." Lyric smirked. "Perfect for our last night in vegas if you ask me."
"You don't have any regrets?" Killian asked.
"Well, I regret drinking almost an entire bottle of cheap wine by myself after the shots of fireball at the casino but I don't regret anything else." She shrugged.
"Lyric, we got married by some guy dressed as John Lennon and our witness was some lady you dragged in from outside who had no clue what was going on." Killian said. "I love you and I want you to know that, the wedding I had in mind for us, was much nicer than that."
"Killian, for one you could have proposed with a ring pop and I would have still said yes. I love you, I don't care how we got married. I for one, loved our wedding, and if you want a fancy one, we can have one later.. In Fact we are going to have to have one later, because my parents are going to lose their shit. My mom especially she's only been planning this day since I could walk."
"You're father is going to shoot me." Killian chuckled.
"Nah, he doesn't like guns he might bean you in the head with a drumstick though." Lyric smirked.
"Are you absolutely sure you want to go through with this? We can get it annulled and stay engaged for a while." Killian offered.
Lyric sighed.
"Killian, I'm sure. I know I've been on the fence about moving in, and everything but I've just had a lot going on I needed a break, you gave me a break and it gave me time to think. I do want to move in with you, and I do want to stay married and be the family that we all want. If that is what you want."
"It's all I've wanted from day one Lyric." Killian smiled.
"Wonderful. Lets eat breakfast and get ready to go home and tell our families we got married." Lyric grinned.
--------------------------------------------------------
"You..what?" Liam asked and crossed his arms and leaned against his kitchen table. Abby brought Killian a cup of coffee.
"Thanks, love." Killian smiled and looked back to his less than amused older brother.
"Lyric and I got married. We were going to get everyone together and announce it but I know you don't like surprises..so I figured I'd tell you."
"I think its wonderful Killian." Abby smiled. "You don't need a huge wedding, with all the glam and glitter."
"No, but a little heads up would have been great." Liam sighed. "Were you drinking?"
"Liam I didn't come here so you could reprimand me like I'm a bloody teenager again. Yes, we were both drinking but we both woke up knowing exactly what happened the night before and we both have absolutely no regrets. I thought you would be happy."
Liam sighed.
"I am happy, I just don't want the two of you jumping into something like this and then burning out."
"You don't sound happy.." Killian mumbled. "Christ you were happier when Anna and I got engaged and you hated her. Lyric and I will be fine. Since the begining we have always jumped into things Its kind of what we do. If you could see how happy she is right now you might think differently. Just come to the party tonight. You'll see." Killian smiled.
Liam nodded. "We'll be there. I am happy for you both Killian, I just wish I could have been there." He smirked.
"Don't worry, You'll get another chance, Lyrics mother will see to it." Killian laughed. "I have to go and help Lyric move her and Symphony's things into the house and get ready for tonight. We'll see you later."
--------------------------------------------------
Lyric finished putting the last of her things into boxes.
"I'm glad you've made your decision Lyric, but whats the rush?" Darren asked.
Lyric sighed and started pacing her room nervously.
"Well that is never a good sign." Darren said.
"The princess is all packed." Sarah smiled as she walked into the room. "Well mostly. I'm keeping some things here so I can steal her from you sometimes." She said and then looked at her daughter biting at her nails and pacing the floor.
"Are you having second thoughts?" She asked.
"No, I'm doing this. For sure." Lyric said. "Its just.. I have something to tell you and I don't think you two are going to be thrilled."
"Lyric, you're an adult, You have a child of your own, you don't have to worry about pleasing us. Its time you live your own life." Darren said.
"I'm really glad you think that." Lyric said. "Because.. While in vegas, Killian proposed."
Sarah squealed in excitement and Darren, took a deep breath but smiled.
"Well thats great, Lets see the ring!" he said. Lyric held out her hand and Sarah gasped at the rock on her finger.
"That man is not shy about his money.." She said and then giggled. "Honey you aren't supposed to wear the wedding band with it until you're married."
"I know.." Lyric said.
"Then why are you-" Sarah stopped herself and Darren shook his head
"Tell me.. You didn't."
"But then I'd be lying.." Lyric said.
Darren put his hands over his face and groaned as Sarah exploded.
"You got married and you didn't even call us?! You got married..in vegas? When?"
"Last night." Lyric sighed. "I told you, you'd be less than thrilled."
"Because, even for you this is crazy Lyric!" Darren snapped. "You and Killian barely have a stable relationship, and now you are married. Do you even know what it means to be married?"
"Please, you and mom were married right out of high school. I'm sure you didn't know what it meant."
"No, We didn't and we almost divorced three times before you could walk because marriage is hard Lyric."
"You just told me it was time to start living my own life and now you are yelling at me for doing that."
"That was before I knew you were ruining yours!" Darren shouted. Lyric flinched and looked away. Darren sighed.
"I didn't mean it Lyric, I'm just..frustrated."
"So.. I'll just be moving stuff to the car." Lyric mumbled.
"Lyric honey..I'm sorry." Darren said.
"So am I." Lyric said and picked up a box and walked out of the room with it.
Lyric was bringing the box outside when Killian pulled up. He watched her open the back of her car and aggressively shove the box inside. He got out of his car and walked over to her cautiously.
"What did that box do to you?" He joked.
Lyric turned around. Her eyes were red, from trying to fight back tears.
"Help me get the rest? Sym is napping but she should be up soon." She said avoiding his question and walking into the house. Killian followed her and instantly felt the tension between her and her father. She must have told them, and they must not have taken it well.
Once they had everything in the cars Sarah gave Lyric a hug.
"He didn't mean it Lyric." She said. "We'll be over tonight."
"We'll be fine if you don't." Lyric said bitterly and pulled away from her mother "I wouldn't want you guys to actually see me ruining my life." She said and glared at her father. Killian walked out with a sleepy Symphony in his arms.
"Where are we going?" She asked.
"Home." Lyric smiled at her and took her from Killian to put her in the car.
Lyrics little brother frowned
"Why can't Sym stay?" He asked.
"It will be okay, Sym has a really big room so you can come sleep over and play whenever you want Quin." Killian smiled and ruffled his hair and looked at Darren and sighed.
"I'm not exactly sure what happened before I got here.. But she's obviously unhappy I don't want any ill feelings between us mate. I know a last minute wedding must not have been your big plan for your daughter but I promise I'm going to take care of her. Everything she wants, everything she needs, she'll have."
"You better make damn sure of it Jones." Darren said. "You break her heart again, I will break you into pieces."
"Noted." Killian said and extended his hand. Darren shook his hand and pulled him in for a hug.
"Talk to her for me. She listens to you." He said.
"I'll do what I can. Regardless, you are welcome to come tonight. I know she said she didn't want you to, but you McKenna's tend to say things you don't mean all the time." Killian smirked.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Lyric was chatting with Tink, Victor and Jefferson at the party, they'd already made the announcement that they were married, and Killian was passing out drinks.
"So you really aren't mad?" Lyric asked Tink
"No." She smiled. "But if I'm not your maid of honor when you guys do a ceremony here then I'll be pissed." She said and laughed.
"Of course you will be. I don't have many friends so Jeffy and Vic are going to have to be bridesmaids." Lyric smirked.
"Hard pass." Victor said.
"As long as my dress is red. I look stunning in red." Jefferson grinned and leaned on Tinks shoulder.
Lyric burst into laughter.
"Whats so funny?" Killian asked as he walked over with a drink for Lyric.
"Jefferson is going to be a bridesmaid when we do our ceremony here." Lyric giggled.
"Whatever boats your float." Killian smirked.
Lyric snorted.
"How much have you had to drink?" She asked.
Killian raised his eyebrows at her and grinned before walking away.
"I never thought I'd see an old teacher get shitfaced. Tonight is a great night." Jefferson laughed. "It is missing something though.."
"No. Absolutely not, my child is sleeping upstairs." Lyric warned him and looked back at Killian watching him continue to drink. She'd honestly never seen him drink like this either. But it was a party, so she didn't think too much of it. She looked at Liam and his band mate Robin who where watching Killian closely as if he was a time bomb and she couldn't help but wonder if there were somethings about Killian she didn't know.
The doorbell rang stealing her attention from Killlian. She walked over to the door and opened it and looked at her parents. Her mother was holding Quin who had a backpack with him and her father had a pan of food, and upon further investigation it was his homemade enchiladas.
"Quin misses his roommate." Sarah said. Lyric frowned and looked at her little brothers teary eyes.
"You can take him up to Syms room. She's sleeping, or supposed to be but there is a little futon in her room that you can fold out for him."
Sarah smiled and walked inside carrying Quin up the stairs and Lyric turned to her father.
"Are you going to let me in?" He asked.
"That depends.. Chicken or beef?" She asked eyeing the pan in his hands.
"Both." Darren shrugged.
"Then yes, you may come in." Lyric said and stepped aside. Darren smirked and walked into the house and Lyric followed him to the kitchen. He set the enchiladas down on the counter and observed the liquor bottles all over the counter.
"Heavy drinking?" He asked. Lyric opened the pan of enchiladas and took a fork to them.
"Its a party, Dad you forget I married a bartender..Oh, and I am one too." She said and walked to the fridge and opened it, grabbing a beer for him and one for her. She popped them open and handed him one. This was how they typically talked things out.
"I know you didn't mean what you said, but it still hurt my feelings." Lyric said.
"I know honey, I'm really sorry." He apologized.
"I know." Lyric sighed. "Killian talked me down when we got home."
"I've always wanted whats best for you..and sometimes I forget that, that is usually Killian."
Lyric smiled.
"Its okay Dad, I get it."
"Good, come back home." Darren chuckled.
"I thought you wanted me to move out?" Lyric asked.
"I did. Until you moved out..for good this time." His voice cracked a little. Lyric sighed and hugged her father.
"Don't cry, because if you cry, I'll cry and it will just be a huge sobfest and this is supposed to be happy."
"Are you happy?" Darren asked.
"I'm over the moon Dad." Lyric smiled and wiped a tear from her eyes.
"Good. Then I am too."
----------------------------------------------------------
Weeks later,
Lyric was wiping down tables at the bar getting ready to open for the evening when Killian walked in.
"Hey." Lyric smiled. "Wheres Sym?"
"She wanted to spend some time with your parents today." Killian said. "You're here early."
"Liam took Abby to see a doctor, she hasn't been feeling well so I told him I'd open and I was looking for my check so I could take it to the bank."
"Oh, I have it, I had to make some adjustments." Killian said and lead her back to the office in the back and pulled down the lockbox and fished in his pocket for the keys.
"What kind of adjustments?" Lyric asked. Killian just smiled and opened the box and handed her, her check.
Lyric eyed him suspiciously and opened the check and gasped.
"I didn't work enough for this amount Killian!"
"Lyric you aren't just an employee anymore. Liam and I own this bar, you are now my wife. You also own this bar so you take part of the money. Usually it would just be a joint check between the two of us, but I wanted yours separate so you could have your own money to use for school since you insist on paying for it yourself. and before you say, you didn't earn it, you did. You've done a lot for the bar. You even convinced Liam to put the kitchen back there to use and start opening in the day which is something I have been trying to do for ages. Its going to bring in a lot more people, and a lot more money."
"Are you sure about this?" Lyric asked.
"Yes, Lyric. Whats mine is yours." Killian smiled.
Lyric wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her head on his chest.
"And whats mine is yours." She repeated.
"Except for cheese sticks, which you so boldy slurred in our wedding vows were yours and only yours." Killian chuckled.
"I don't play with cheese sticks." Lyric giggled and then looked up at him and smiled.
"What?" He asked.
"I'm just happy. Things are finally moving in the same direction for us. I'm going to be able to start school again, and you are doing well with your band. We are together, with our beautiful daughter in a beautiful house..everything has just come together and after everything we've been through it just surprises me."
"I know love. Me too." Killian smiled and leaned in to kiss her. Lyric tangled her fingers in his hair as he backed her into the office desk.
"I don't know if we should do this. You are my boss Mr. Jones." Lyric smirked.
"No I'm not." Killian chuckled and looked at Lyric who gave him that damn pout of hers and batted her eyelashes.
"Well that is just a shame..because you know I've always had a thing for a man with authority." She said and bit her lip and hooked her fingers into the waist of his jeans tugging him forward.
"Christ..you bloody little siren." Killian breathed against her neck. "If thats how you want to play. We will play."
"Can we not?" Liam asked. Lyrics face turned crimson and she pushed Killian away and hopped off the desk.
"Liam.. I didn't know you..were back..And you brought Abby..how incredibly embarrassing." She mumbled.
"Aye." Liam smirked. "Don't worry, I'll never tell." He winked at Lyric. Lyric groaned and hid her face in Killian's shirt.
"Sorry to..interrupt.. Your..er.. playtime." Liam said and put his arm around Abby's waist "But we wanted to share the good news. We are expecting." Liam grinned. Lyric ripped herself away from Killian and smiled.
"Thats amazing!" She beamed she knew that Liam and his wife had tried for years so the fact that this was finally happening for them was amazing.
Killian hugged them both and kissed Abby on the cheek.
"Congratulations love." He smiled. "We couldn't be happier for you both."
"When do we get to meet the little guy? Or..girl?" Lyric asked.
"Well, its actually little guys, or girls. We're having twins." Abby corrected. "And it will be in march."
"Two babies??" Lyric grinned. "Two babies for me to play with Killian!" Lyric.
"I've told you, if you want another baby to play with I am open to the idea of it." Killian chuckled.
"No, these babies I can play with and then give them back. That's the best kind." Lyric smirked. Killian frowned. Lyric knew he wanted another child because he missed so many firsts with Symphony.
"I'm not saying never Killian. Symphony got a puppy and now she wants a sibling so maybe soon I will be open to the idea of it too." Lyric smiled.
"I know love." Killian said and kissed the top of her head.
"Well, I think this calls for celebration." Killian smirked and walked out to the bar and set out some glasses, he poured whiskey in three of them and sprite in the fourth and handed it to Abby. Lyric picked up a drink Liam and Killian picked up theres.
"Its been a rough few years all around, but things are finally looking up for all of us so heres to happy beginnings." Killian said and raised his glass. Everyone else raised their glasses in agreement.
** 4 years later. **
Lyric couldn't believe this was happening. She'd applied for teaching positions all over the surrounding area, she never thought that she would be getting a call about being the music teacher at Storybrooke High.
She walked with Mr. Gold, who was still going strong as the principal.
"I can't thank you enough for putting in a good word for me. Out of all the schools i applied for, I honestly was hoping for this one." Lyric smiled.
"Well, you were one of the best in your class, and only the best will do for our students." Mr. Gold said "The current teacher has some medical problems and is resigning by the end of the month so I assume you will be ready to start then."
"Oh of course!" Lyric nodded.
"Well then, Mrs Jones, welcome aboard." He smiled and extended his hand. Lyric grinned and shook his hand.
----------------------------------------------------------
Killian burst into the bar with his bandmates in tow, everyone seemed ecstatic.
"Easy Killian, the twins are sleeping in the office." Liam said. "Whats all this excitement for?"
"We've been signed." Killian grinned. "Theres going to be a tour."
Liam couldn't stop his excited shout as he hugged his brother.
"This is excellent Killian!! What does Lyric think?"
"I haven't been home to tell her yet but I know she'll be happy too! We were closer so we came here first. I'll run home and tell Lyric and we'll come here to celebrate." Killian said and pat Robin on the shoulder. "Hold the fort down for me mate." He laughed and walked out of the bar.
"I trust you'll make sure he doesn't screw this up again." Liam said to Robin.
"Aye.. we were all just out of school back then Liam. We didn't know any better. I'll keep him clean."
"You better." Liam said in his protective older brother tone before he walked back to the office to check on his kids.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
"Mom I need help!" Symphony groaned at the table while she was working on her homework.
"Just a minute Sym." Lyric said
"I want to get this done!" Symphony argued.
"I said just a minute, Symphony. I'm making dinner."
"Nevermind. I'll do it myself.." Symphony mumbled.
Lyric sighed and narrowed her eyes at her daughter. She was 9 but she already had the attitude of a teenager and Lyric was not ready for that.
Killian walked through the front door.
"Hi daddy!" Sym smiled.
"Hey princess." Killian said and kissed her on the cheek before walking into the kitchen.
"Sure, you get the sweet side. And I get the sour." Lyric sighed.
"What?" Killian laughed.
"OH nothing, just our child is a sourpatch kid. Sour, sweet. And oh look.." Lyric said watching as Symphony went upstairs to her room. "Gone." She said walked to the stairs.
"Get back here and finish your homework!"
"I'll do it later!" Symphony grumbled.
"You'll do it now, like your mother asked you to." Killian said and pointed to the kitchen table.
Symphony whined and walked back down the stairs to the table.
"I have news." Killian smiled as he followed Lyric back to the kitchen.
"Me too!" Lyric grinned. "You first!"
"We got signed." Killian said.
Lyric dropped the pan of food on the floor.
"Whoo hoo Pizza night." Sym cheered from the table.
"Your child." Killian laughed.
"What did you say?" Lyric asked.
"We got signed. Apparently your father sent samples to one of his old friends in LA and they liked what they heard."
Lyric shrieked and jumped into Killian's arms.
"That is amazing baby!" She said and kissed him.
"They want to do a tour." Killian said.
Lyrics face fell a little. A tour, would mean..he would be gone. And while it was great news and this would be incredible for Killian and his band Lyric didn't know how Sym would handle him being gone."
"How long?" She asked.
"They want to try half a year in the states. And if it does well.. They're talking about a european tour too." Killian grinned but then frowned noticing Lyric wasn't smiling anymore.
"Aren't you happy?" He asked.
"Killian I am thrilled for you and the guys. I'm just.. You'll be gone so long."
"Come with us. You and Sym. She can be homeschooled..or well bus schooled." Killian chuckled.
"I can't pull her from school..and her friends for a year.. And.. well.."
"Well what?" Killian asked.
"I just accepted a job teaching music..at Storybrooke High.."
"Lyric, darling that is incredible!" Killian smiled. "I know..being apart will be scary but I know that we are strong enough to handle it and there will be breaks, and even shows that you and Sym can come to but if you don't want me to do this just say the words and I won't."
"Killian I could never, in a million years ask you to give this up. This is your dream. Symphony and I will be just fine." Lyric smiled and pressed her forehead to his.
She was honestly terrified, and every part of her was screaming to tell him not to go, but she just couldn't do that to him. "When does all of this start?" Lyric asked.
"In two weeks, we'll go to LA draw up the final paperwork, and start recording, Are you absolutely sure?" He asked.
"Yes, Killian. I could never take this from you." Lyric smiled "Go be a rockstar, Sym and I will be here when you get back."
--------------------------------------------------------------
Lyric stood in the doorway to her classroom, Killian's old classroom in the music hall of Storybrooke High. she still couldn't believe this was happening, and memories of her time spent here with Killian came flooding back to her.
The first couple of weeks of being back in Killian's class seemed to go okay, it was a little awkward at first not making eye contact but She knew the second she looked into those eyes, It would be game over. Today, however she was having a little trouble with the piece she was trying to play. It didn't help that she was trying to play on piano instead of guitar. Piano was one of her weaker points and that's what Killian wanted them to focus on this week, so here she was looking like an idiot cringing every time she'd hit the wrong key before she banged her forehead into the keys out of frustration.
"You look like you could use some help." Killian said walking up behind her.
"No, No.. I'm good. I just haven't played piano in a while." Lyric said and shrugged. Killian looked around the room to make sure no one was really paying attention.
"Lyric, if you need help it's what I'm here for." He said. "I teach, it's what I do."
"Okay. I guess I could use some help. with this part right here." She said and highlighted a part of the sheet music in front of her. Killian chuckled
"You haven't played piano in a while and the first thing you pick is Chopin? I admire your enthusiasm but that is just setting yourself up for irritation. Start small." Killian said.
"My brain doesn't do small. my brain does go big or go home." Lyric said and smiled to herself. "and I don't think I'm getting where I need to go by playing Row Row Row your boat."
"If you insist." Killian smiled. "May I?" He asked. Lyric nodded and scooted over on the bench thinking he was just going to sit beside her and show her what she needed to be doing but instead He stood behind her and put his hands on hers moving them where they needed to be. She shuddered under his touch and her breath hitched in her throat.
Focus Lyric. He's your teacher, nothing more
But he wasn't just her teacher, and Lyric knew now that he was always going to be more. Now he was her husband, and her best friend she felt her eyes well up. He'd only been gone to LA for a week and she missed him so much.
"Excuse me...Lyric McKenna?"
Lyric turned around and looked at the boy in front of her, he had curly brown hair and blue eyes. He wore a brown leather jacket and had a guitar case with him.
"Its..actually Jones now." She smiled. "How can I help you?"
"I'm sorry, I've been watching your Juilliard concerts on youtube you are brilliant, I just wanted to be early, so I could introduce myself. I'm Graham Humbert. I'm a senior in your class. Our other teacher..was good but I think you'll do better." He smiled.
"Thats the plan." Lyric smiled. "Well, while your here..do you want to play for me?"
"Sure. I'll just get set up." Graham smiled.
"Actually.. Do you play Piano?" Lyric asked.
"Honestly..I'm no good." he chuckled.
"Give a try, Mr. Humbert.. When I was a student, I had a teacher who told me that I always did better when I challenged myself."
"What do you want me to play Mrs. Jones?" Graham asked and sat down at the piano bench.
"Play what speaks to you." Lyric smiled.
THE END. (Maybe)
A/N: Okay, so heres the deal, I'm leaving this ending pretty open for the possibility of a third book. The story could easily end here But it could also continue, however I don't want to write a third book unless enough people want a third book, so If you do, let me know in the comments, and let me know what you think of the chapter over all of course!!
