Chapter 10 Running after you is like chasing the clouds.

A/N: Sorry it took so long for the update, work has kept me busy.
Enjoy this angsty Halloween Chapter. (I know I actually wrote a seasonal chapter that ALMOST fits the season :P Most the time I'm writing christmas chapters in March XD)
Also I recently updated the cover for this book, let me know what you think!

1 month later

Lyric shuffled around the kitchen making breakfast, dodging Symphony and Quin who were running around the kitchen giggling.
Darren walked into the kitchen yawning.
"Oh, let me help you with that." He said as he walked over to the stove
"No, Dad I got it." Lyric said and moved the cooked bacon out of the pan. "I..just need to do something." She mumbled and started working on the eggs. Symphony ran between the two of them shrieking while Quin chased her.
"Guys please go play in the living room." Lyric sighed.
"Rough morning?" Darren asked.
"They've been at it since they got up at 6."
"Why didn't you wake me and your mom? You aren't responsible for Quin you have enough going on."
"He's my baby brother, so I am partially responsible. I don't mind Dad.. really I just wanted to do something. They're both dressed and ready for preschool as soon as they eat I'll drive them. I need to get out of the house."
"Are you sure?" Darren asked.
"Yeah." Lyric replied and then caught Symphony as she ran back through.
"I said to play in the living room. And where are your shoes and socks??" Lyric groaned "No. nevermind, get Quin and come sit at the table." Symphony ran off down the hallway as Killian was walking up the hallway.
"Who gave the children coffee?" He asked.
"They don't need it, they come up with this energy all on their own." Darren said and grabbed plates from the cabinets to put out on the table. Killian smiled and kissed Lyric on the cheek.
"Morning." He said.
"Morning.." Lyric said and awkwardly stepped around him. "Mind getting the kids to the table?" She asked.
"Yeah. Sure." Killian nodded. Lyric turned back to the eggs to finish them as Killian walked down the hallway.
"What's with the cold front?" Darren asked.
"What are you talking about?"
"I don't know you just seemed kind of short with Killian." Darren replied.
Lyric shrugged. "I don't know what you mean."
"I think you do. Whats up? I thought you two were getting along."
"We are, Dad. there's nothing wrong just let it go."
"What are we not letting go?" Sarah asked as she came into the kitchen and poured a cup of coffee.
"Nothing." Lyric shrugged. Sarah just looked at her skeptically and sat down at the table while Lyric brought over the platters of food. Killian came back to the table with both kids and got them seated.

After breakfast Killian was helping Lyric clean the table.
"What are your plans for the day?" Lyric asked.
"I've got to go and help Liam set up the bar today, Halloween brings in a lot of business." Killian replied. "Want to come help?"
"Well after I take the kids to school I was thinking of going try and talk to Granny about a job." Lyric shrugged.
"You know Liam and I could always use the help, We need another Bartender."
"Yeah? Maybe." Lyric nodded.
"Mommy come on I'm ready for school!" Symphony called.
"Like mother, like daughter." Killian smirked and followed Lyric out of the kitchen.
"We're still trick or treating right Daddy?" Symphony asked.
"If your mean ol uncle Liam lets me go in time I will be there." Killian smiled and picked her up
"Tell him I said please." Symphony said.
"I will. I'm sure that will do the trick." Killian grinned and kissed her on the cheek and set her back down. "Have a good day at school."
"I will." Symphony said and raced Quin to the door.
"I have to go. See you later?" Lyric asked.
"Yeah." Killian smiled and leaned in to kiss her, Lyric turned her head and he caught her cheek. He frowned as she awkwardly walked out of the house with the kids.

---------------------------------------------------------

"I really wish I could help you Lyric, but with Ruby back in town I'm fully staffed." Granny said apologetically as she filled Lyric's coffee cup again.
"Its okay, I understand. I thought Ruby was doing great in New York? What about Victor?"
"They're still together, just trying the long distance thing. Ruby's boss got a little handsy and she kicked his ass and got fired. So she came home. Can't say I blame her, I would have killed him."
"Yeah Rick was an ass.." Lyric sighed.
"Why don't you use your time to try and go back to school? Killian has enough money to support you and Symphony and it may not be a fancy smancy school of fine arts but I'm sure SBU has a good music program?"
Lyric shrugged. "Its something to think about I guess."
She really didn't want Killian to have to support her, she wasn't really sure where Killian even fit into her picture anymore. Right after they lost the baby she wanted him close, and he had basically lived with her and her parents for the last month but now that she was in a better place emotionally Lyric wanted her space to figure things out, but Symphony loved having Killian there all the time, so how was she supposed to tell him he had to go?

-------------------------------------------------------

"What's got you in a piss poor mood Killian? It's a big night, lots of income for us." Liam sighed as Killian moped around the bar helping set up.
"Its just Lyric. She's been acting strange." Killian replied. "She was fine a few weeks ago, and now she acts like she's repulsed by me or something."
"I'm sure she's not repulsed by you. But the storm has passed, she's thinking. The two of you weren't exactly in the best place before she lost the baby. Now that the dust has settled she may just need some space to sort everything out in her head. Figure out what she wants you know?" Liam suggested.
"I know what she wants." Killian said and shook his head. "She doesn't want me to leave, Every time I tried to go she wanted me to stay. Why would she change her mind now?"
"Have you learned nothing about women little brother?" Liam asked.
"Younger brother, and I know plenty about women, especially Lyric."
Liam chuckled.
"If you knew half of what you think you knew, you wouldn't be moping around the bloody bar."
"You think you know her better?" Killian asked.
"I know that Lyric keeps a lot that she should say, to herself. Trust me Killian, just have a talk with her after you take the little one out trick or treating."
Killian sighed. He knew Liam was right but he didn't want to admit it to himself, Him and Lyric were getting along great and he didn't want that to end.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hold still Sym." Lyric said as she tried to draw a nose and whiskers on the squirming child's face with Halloween makeup.
"Where is Daddy? He said he'd be here" Symphony frowned.
"Go find grandma to get the rest of your costume on and I'll call Daddy and see where he is okay?"
Symphony nodded and ran off to the kitchen. Lyric picked up her phone from the coffee table and called Killian.
"Hey love." He said as he answered, though Lyric could barely hear him from the loud music and people in the bar.
"Where are you? You were supposed to be here 15 minutes ago." Lyric sighed.
"I'm sorry Lyric we are swamped. I've been trying to sneak away. You might have to meet me here in an hour."
"An hour? Killian by then she'll be done. You promised her."
"I know. I know. Look, meet me here in 20 minutes and I'll try to sneak away for a bit."
"Okay, Meet us outside I don't want to bring Sym in there with all those people who are drinking."
"Sure. I have to go, see you then." He said and hung up quickly. Lyric sighed and shook her head and looked up at Symphony as she crawled into the living room.
"Do I look like a kitty now?" She asked.
"You make a fantastic kitty." Lyric smiled
"Is Daddy coming??" Sym asked.
"We have to go meet Daddy. Come on, We'll hit a couple houses on the way and then we'll all meet Grandma, Grandpa and Quin, at Granny's for hot chocolate after we get Candy."
"Yes!" Symphony squealed and jumped to her feet and grabbed her pumpkin bucket. "Lets go lets go lets go!" She pressed and grabbed Lyrics hand.
"Alright, we're going." Lyric laughed and led Symphony out the door.

------------------------------------------------------

Lyric was surprised when Killian actually met them outside of the bar in time.
"Daddy look! I got candy!" Symphony squealed as she ran over to him.
"I see that! We'll have that whole pumpkin filled up in no time." He grinned and then looked at Lyric.
"You look exhausted already." He chuckled.
"She is a fast little kitty." Lyric smiled down at Symphony. "You ready? I figured we'd hit up the other side of town and then go meet my parents at Granny's."
"Yeah, sure." Killian smiled and held Symphony's hand and smirked at all the glow bracelets and necklaces the child was wearing.
"How many glow sticks can you put on one kid Lyric?" He asked.
"I wanted to make sure I can see her."
"You could land a plane with her." Killian laughed and picked up Symphony waving her around while she giggled.
"Look, I'm still adjusting to small town life, New York could be a scary place to live."
"That is true." Killian smiled and put Symphony back down so she was walking along beside him.

After trick or treating, Killian was carrying a worn out Symphony and Lyric was carrying her candy filled pumpkin.
"Do you have to go back to the Bar?" Lyric asked.
"Nah, Liam texted me and said he had it pretty well handled. I'm free the rest of the night." He said
"Oh, nice." Lyric half smiled as they approached Granny's. The rest of the walk was awkward and quiet until Lyric pulled the door open for the diner. Killian set Symphony down and she hurried over to the table where everyone else was and sat in Darrens lap as Ruby walked over to the table with a tray of hot chocolate and one apple cider.
"Hot chocolate for the normal people, and apple cider for the freak of nature who doesn't like hot chocolate." She grinned and passed Lyric her hot apple cider.
Lyric laughed.
"Thank you Ruby." She said and sipped at her drink and then giggled at Symphony who had whipped cream all over her nose from sipping at her hot chocolate.
"Don't worry Sym. I think its a look." Killian grinned and dabbed his finger in his whipped cream and then poked his nose with it sending Symphony into a fit of giggles.
Lyric smiled watching the two of them together. It only made, what she needed to say to him tonight that much harder.

--------------------------------------------------

Lyric came up the hall after putting Symphony to bed and found Killian looking through the Halloween candy.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"I'm looking for the snickers." He mumbled.
"My Dad probably beat you to it." Lyric smirked
"Damn it Darren.." Killian pouted. "She go down easy?" He asked.
"Oh yeah, out like a light. All the walking wore her out." Lyric shrugged.
"Your parents asleep?" Killian asked.
"Yeah they're old, the walking must of worn them out too." Lyric smiled.
"I'm not that much younger than them. Are you calling me old?" Killian smirked playfully and closed the distance between him and Lyric. He leaned in to kiss her but she put her hand on his chest to stop him.
"Whats wrong love?" He asked.
"We...need to talk." She sighed. Killian pulled away and sighed.
"About?" He asked.
"Us.. kind of. Its..just its getting a little cramped in here." She said.
"I've got plenty of room at my house, you know that. You and Sym could move in there." Killian offered. Lyric looked away from him.
"You..don't want to move in with me do you?" Killian asked. Lyric shook her head.
"No.. at least not right now. I need some time to sort all of this out in my head, and to do that, I need some space."
"You want me to leave?" Killian asked.
"Well when you put it like that.. You make me sound like a bitch." Lyric sighed. "Look, After we lost the baby, I wanted you around, I wanted you close...but I need to think about this Killian."
"What is there to think about Lyric? I love you.. I love Sym."
"I know.. I know. And she loves you too." Lyric replied.
"But you don't?" Killian asked.
"I don't know what I feel, or think right now Killian. There are all these thoughts going on in my head and I just need some quiet, and space to figure it all out. Thats all I'm asking. Please don't be upset."
"How am I supposed to not be upset Lyric?" Killian nearly demanded.
"I don't know Killian! I'm not telling you I never want to see you again, or that you can't see Sym. I want you to see Sym. Even take her over night sometimes if you want. But I need to figure my shit out, before I let you back in."
"What about Symphony. Is this best for her?" Killian asked.
"Don't even go there Killian Everything I have done was in her best interest. I need to consider what is best for me too."
"Keeping her from me for four years wasn't for her good, it was for yours." Killian scoffed.
Lyric shook her head.
"I am not fighting with you. I told you what I want, and need if you want to act like a child, fine. Do it elsewhere."
Killian threw his hands up. "You want me to stay, and then you want me to go, Make up your damn mind Lyric."
"Right now, I really want you to go." Lyric said and crossed her arms glaring at him.
Killian scoffed.
"You know what? Fine. I'll leave."
"Good." Lyric shrugged and walked over to the door and opened it for him gesturing for him to leave. Killian narrowed his eyes and stormed out the door. Lyric shut the door behind him and walked down the hall to her room and peeled off her clothes changing into sleep clothes before climbing into to bed and shutting off the light.
