TWENTY
Belle wasn't completely sure how she'd been talked into doing this but here she was. Even during college, Belle hadn't been much of a drinker, let alone much of a partier. She liked to focus on her studies, play games, or even spend time with her friends rather than strangers. She was very much not at all familiar with the bar scene, especially not a bar scene which was made up of soldiers who were all looking for a good time.
"You look uncomfortable." Ghost said, leaning over her shoulder and Belle jumped a little at his sudden presence behind her. She glanced up at him in the dimmed lights, giving a little shrug, trying to think of something to say but no words came from her lips. They stood there for a moment, just looking at each other as whatever trending music was playing, and the scent of alcohol lingered in the air. "Johnny got us a table," Ghost motioned over to a table in one of the corners where a group of soldiers had gathered.
"I feel out of place." The words tumbled from Belle's lips without her permission as she watched the reckless soldiers who were twice her size order drinks and attempt to flirt with some of the girls. Ghost's brows furrowed a little. He could understand why she felt that way, but he was sure that the others were more then happy that she had tagged along.
"Why?" Ghost asked instead, his eyes moving back to her instead of whatever the men in his unit were doing. He knew Soap would order him a drink or two, maybe even three while giving the excuse that Ghost needed to loosen up.
Belle shifted her weight awkwardly and Ghost looked down at her. It was one of the few times that the men were all out of uniform, enjoying a night out in the town close to base. Ghost always felt somewhat out of place whenever he wasn't wearing his uniform, and he had a feeling that Belle had started to feel that way as well. It became part of who they were. "I don't drink." Belle admitted with a shrug and Ghost raised his eyebrows, but he wasn't really surprised.
"They won't pressure you." Ghost was sure that they wouldn't pressure her into drinking, and he would hand out punishments like candy if she felt uncomfortable. Belle shrugged a little and Ghost took a moment to appreciate how she looked in jeans and a simple shirt. She looked good but he was also extremely biased. "You don't like drinking?" He asked, tilting his head a little and Belle gave an awkward little smile, tipping her head back towards the group who were actively getting served drinks.
"No," Belle shakes her head a little, crossing her arms and Ghost followed her gaze to the other men. He understood that some people didn't like drinking, didn't like the feeling or side effects which came with being intoxicated. "Not really." She says with a soft little hum and there's a beat of silence between them as they watch Soap try, and fail, to flirt with one of the civilian girls.
"Good for you." Ghost gives him a single nod of his head. Ghost was a drinker, he was a smoker. He knew it wasn't good, it would kill him one day if he didn't stop eventually but he was a soldier and those were healthier options compared to what some soldiers would do. And Ghost thought that was a good enough. Belle looked up to Ghost, her eyes landing on him and suddenly realizing just how close they were. She took a small step away from him and Ghost's shoulders fell a little.
"Suppose." Belle shrugged, forcing her gaze back across the room. She could practically feel the way that Ghost was staring at her, she didn't want to see the way he was looking at her as if she had said something wrong. Ghost's jaw tensed and he let out a little breath before speaking again.
"Come on," Ghost says, motioning to the bar which was crowded with people trying to get drinks or flirting with people who were gathered around. Belle looked at them, her gaze studying over the people who were gathered about then she glanced up to Ghost. She looked less than impressed at the idea of going over there. "I'll get you a lemonade or something." He explained with a little shrug of his own, his eyes on her and she raised her eyebrows a little. Ghost let out a little breath of relief as a small amused smile crossed her face.
"A lemonade?" Belle repeated with a soft little laugh, crossing her arms as she looked up at him, unsure if he was being serious or just messing with her. Ghost rolled his eyes at not believing him and taking his offer. He was trying to be nice for once and buy her a drink so she wouldn't feel left out amongst the other drinking soldiers.
"What? Do you prefer apple juice?" Ghost asked as he tipped his head down, their eyes meeting as she met his gaze. She stared up at him for a moment, trying to see if he was being serious or just teasing her for her not wanting to drink with the others. Ghost felt a little smile pull at his lips as she narrowed her eyes at him.
"This feels like a form of bullying." Belle told him, her eyes narrow as she stared up at him. She was trying to figure him out, it was a constant game of chess between them, the two constantly trying to get ahead of each other with little success. He stared down at her, and he gave her a little grin, liking that she was struggling to try and figure out if he was being serious.
"I don't have all day, Isabelle." Ghost shrugs again with a raise of his eyebrows, waiting to hear whatever she was going to say. Waiting to see if she would take his offer for a nonalcoholic drink so she could feel included with the group. Belle let a little sigh leave her lips.
"You're an ass, you know that right?" Belle reminds him as she looks up at him, her words having no real hate behind them. She couldn't help but feel like he was teasing her over how she wasn't sure if he was being serious with her or not. She sighs a little, glancing back to the group and then to Ghost. "Yeah, a lemonade would be nice." She gives in and Ghost grins as she caves before moving towards the bar with Belle in tow.
