FOURTEEN
Isabelle was out of her depth. Not that she would admit that but as she looked around at the men in their uniforms and gear, she realized just how big the contrast between them was. She tugged at the gear, which was meant to protect her, unsure if she had done it properly. This wasn't something that people like her were taught and it wasn't like she'd gone through the proper training for this. All Belle knew how to do was shoot a gun and wear a bullet proof vest. It was very frustrating, and she wasn't a big fan of how the gear hugged her body.
"You look stupid." Ghost grunted as he passed by Belle, and she let out a sharp breath. Ghost moved to stand next to her, adjusting his gloves and looking at her out of the corner of his eye as he finished getting ready. She tilted her head up, turning a little to meet his gaze properly with frustration on her face.
"Pardon?" Belle asked, already in a semi bad mood and Ghost met her gaze for a second.
"Nothing." Ghost grunted out, moving to lean against the wall of the armory and watching as she finished getting ready. Belle just didn't fit the gear, Ghost thought. She was too small; the gear was too bulky on her and not fit to her proper size and weight. He just didn't understand why Captain Price was willing to risk her on a mission when she wasn't cut out for it. After a minute he gave an angry huff. "Turn around." He ordered and Belle met his gaze again with a little furrow of her eyebrows.
"What?" She asked, not wanting to blindly follow his orders. Especially when they weren't exactly seeing eye to eye about her heading out on this mission with his team.
"Isabelle." Ghost said her name and motioned for her to turn around. Belle let out an annoyed little sigh before turning around, letting him do whatever he wanted as she stood with her back to him. Ghost rolled his eyes as she acted like a child and slouched a little, her shoulders a little tense due to him being so close. He wrapped his arm around her waist and pressing his hand to her abdomen to make her stand a little straighter. "You're tense." He pointed out the obvious as Belle was pressed close to her.
"I'm not." Belle argued and her shoulders remained stiff as she felt his touch through the gear and the uniform she had been provided for the mission. Ghost rolled his eyes at how she was reacting to his touch as if he was made of fire and would burn her. But his hands only adjusted her gear, tugging it tight and making sure it was secure.
"You are." Ghost grumbled in her ear, looking over her shoulder as Ghost tugged at her vest. He ignored the little sound that left her lips as he patted down her sides, making sure that the material was pressed flat to her body. Belle tried to stay still as he felt her hands on her ribs, his touch firm but gentle on her. "Just let me fix your gear." Ghost said with a breath out, his hands traveling the gear to make sure it was to his liking to keep her safe. After a moment he stepped back and Ghost looked her up and down. It was clear that she still didn't look like a proper elite soldier, but she looked a little better than before now that she properly fitted with the gear. "You look like a toddler." He commented after a moment of looking at her, he watched her eyes flicker with annoyance.
"That's rude." Belle said, a small glare across her face as she looked at Ghost who was standing directly in front of her. It was almost funny to see the two of them standing nearly chest to chest, Belle looking up at Ghost, dressed in the gear which matched his teammates usual gear. Belle was so much smaller and shorter than him and he didn't want to risk her having loose gear that could leave her vulnerable for stray bullets.
"Yeah." Ghost shrugged unapologetically. She was staring up at Ghost who looked down at her, his icy blue eyes lacking any true emotion, hiding away the way that she worried him. She honestly was going to be the death of him even if he wouldn't admit it out loud yet.
"I don't look like a toddler." Belle tried to argue with Ghost, but he was less moved by her little frown. If anything, it just backed up his opinion on the girl he was meant to stay safe on base and not be in the direct line of fire. Ghost let out a little huff, a small breath and he glanced away before returning his gaze to her.
"Just don't get yourself shot." Ghost told her with a sigh, truly not wanting her to have her hurt out there. Ghost tipped his head down, keeping his eyes on her and waiting for her response. He needed to hear that Belle was going to play it safe when she was out in the field in the direct line of fire. He wanted to hear she was going to be safe and careful.
"Almost sounds like you care, Lieutenant." Belle said, refusing to make any promises as she looked up at Ghost. She was going to do what was best for the mission and she was going to do what she could in order to keep the hostages safe from the terrorists. And Ghost hated that she wasn't backing down like most soldiers would. There was a beat of silence between the two, a silent argument between them as they looked at each other.
"You're funny Belle." Ghost told her, keeping his head tilted down to control the conversation and keep her from seeing just how much he wanted to protect her. Belle stared up at him, the silence sitting between them for a long minute. Then Belle took a small step back as the door to the armory opened and a few more soldiers entered the room to get ready for the mission.
