ELEVEN
Belle huffed as she walked down the hallway angrily, files under her arm with her days work as she forced herself to be the bigger person. She was truly starting to hate being the bigger person when it came to Simon Riley, but she was well aware that he wasn't going to be. She walked past room after room, heading towards the task force common room. It was late and she was silently hoping that he might've gone to bed, but he hadn't. She found Ghost sitting in a chair with a laptop in his hands as he was clearly waiting on her.
"I can talk now." Belle said with frustration as she moved to stand in front of Ghost who glanced up at her with raised eyebrows at the tone she was using with him.
"Watch your attitude." Ghost said, his tone a little warning as he looked up at her. Belle looked at him with her arms crossed, annoyed at what he was saying. Annoyed at how he was even relaxed in the chair, looking between her and his laptop as if she wasn't angry at him. As if she was just his subordinate when in reality she had just about as much power over him then he did of her.
"You have no right to tell me to watch my attitude when you come storming into my office trying to start problems." Belle said, throwing herself down into the plush chair across from him, slouching. Belle was fully aware that this conversation was more then likely not to go anywhere productive but she sure as hell wasn't just going to walk away when he was trying to blow her off. Ghost glanced between Belle and his laptop, the blue glow from his laptop one of the few lights in the room on at the late hour.
"I'm not starting problems Isabelle." Ghost responded, his voice monotone as ever and his eyes returning to his laptop as if it were more interesting then the angry girl sitting across from him. He could practically feel the way that his words seemed to fuel her ever growing frustration with him, and deep down he almost found it amusing. Almost.
"Then what are you doing?" Belle asked back through gritted teeth, not even bothering to hide her annoyance with him. Ghost glanced back at her, watching as she sat forwards in the chair where his friends and him had been chatting just hours before. When the topic of Belle had come up, he had quickly made sure to change it, but he was fully aware that Soap, Roach and Gaz were rather fond of the small brunette. It seemed like everyone except him seemed to find the shrink as good company who was worth knowing military secrets. It was impossibly frustrating that everyone seemed to like her. "Because I'm trying to do my job and quite frankly you are making it impossible!" Belle said with extreme frustration, practically tossing the files she'd been holding down onto the small table between them as if to make a point. Ghost raised his eyebrows at the little act she was putting on across from him.
"I am not." Ghost said after a beat of silence between them. Belle glowered at him because all he had done was fight against her when she'd been trying to get him back on the field. She was trying to help him, and he was making it as hard as possible for her.
"You are." Belle said back without any hesitation. When Ghost shut his laptop and went to get to his feet, Belle was immediately getting up with him. He gave her another long pause, staring at her as if asking if she really wanted to fight this fight. She glowered at him, silent anger that was on the verge to bubble up.
"I'm not talking to you when you're this," Ghost turned his back on her but not before he saw the frustration flash in her eyes at the unfinished sentence. He started to walk towards the hall which would lead back to his private quarters, but Belle quickly stormed after him.
"Say it." Belle says, almost daring Ghost to finish the sentence which he had known would work her up so much. He knew that he could get in Belle's head just as much as Ghost could get in hers. It was like they were made to argue and go each other, able to read each other like open books. "Simon Riley, say it." She snapped angrily and stepped in front of Ghost who was forced to stop walking, staring down at her and her audacity.
"Emotional." Ghost said, leaning down towards her with an unamused tone. But he was more then amused to see how her eyes were filled with nothing but frustration.
"Sorry that some of us have emotions," Belle said with frustration dripping from her tongue and Ghost secretly felt more then amused at how angry she was getting over this. He was more then happy to see her angry and being rude towards him rather than being passive and sweet as always. Ghost simply rolled his eyes at her words, already knowing where this was going.
"Oh, don't give me that talk." Ghost said and tried to push past her, but Belle followed loyally after him. Ghost had this feeling that she for once wasn't going to back down about this argument.
"So, you've had it before?" Belle asked, her pace faster then she'd usually walk to try and keep up with Ghost's long strides down the dimmed hallway that lead past different rooms. Belle glowered up at him with frustration, her arms crossed as she tried to keep up with him, having left her files back in the common room. Ghost didn't answer and she scowled at him. "Have you thought that maybe for a second that I've been trying to help you?" Belle asked angrily as she stepped in front of him once again with frustration as she looked up at him.
"Christ," Ghost paused in his steps as she stopped him from going any further, her body blocking the door to his private quarters. Belle was fully aware that he wouldn't move her, wouldn't touch her due to the threat she'd made before. "I have paperwork to do Isabelle." Ghost said with a huff, crossing his arms as he looked at the brunette standing in front of him who looked extremely frustrated.
"No." Isabelle said, crossing her arms as she stood in front of Ghost's door, blocking the entrance. Ghost would have to give her credits for acting like this, acting like she was three times her own size. She was extremely frustrating and equally stubborn at the worst times.
"No?" Ghost repeated less then amused at how she was acting but also just wanting to get back into his private quarters. Ghost crossed his arms and mocked how he was standing, his eyes not leaving her for a second. "Aren't you feeling bossy." He said, almost mockingly with a raise of his eyebrows as she refused to move.
There was a beat of silence and when she didn't respond, Ghost went to reach around her. She stepped to the side to block his ability to reach the handle. "Apologize." Belle demanded as she looked up at him.
Ghost blinked, annoyed at how her audacity is growing with every passing moment. "Yeah, right." Ghost literally scoffed at what he was asking her to do, motioning for her to move out of the way. But she didn't move, staring up at him angrily.
"No, I'm dead serious Simon." Belle said without blinking and Ghost could've laughed. He waited for her to move but she didn't, waiting for him to apologize.
"I'm not apologizing." Ghost said after a minute of silence between them. Belle frowned as he refused to say sorry, her brows furrowing a little as he denied. She actually couldn't believe that this was happening right now, that Ghost was refusing to agree and listen to her. Another beat of silence as she seemed to wait. Then finally she took a breath.
"Fine," Belle says, uncrossing her arms but Ghost knows that she isn't about to give up so easily. It was always something with her, she never made anything easy for him. "I'll just go tell Price that you broke protocol and," Belle goes to push past him, attempting to step past him and go tell his superior all about how he had overstepped his bounds, but Ghost catches her arm before she can take three steps. Belle glares at Ghost and Ghost loosens his grip just slightly, not wanting to actually hurt her, just stop her.
"You will do nothing of the sort." Ghost says, his own irritation flaring at the fact that she was willing to play dirty by trying to go to his superior. They both were fully aware of what kinds of punishment and paperwork could come with him getting into information that he wasn't supposed to have access to. Even if it was about him.
"Try me." Belle says, not backing down because she knew she had the high ground over him. She knew she had the advantage over him in this situation. And Ghost knew it too which left him seething. He should have known that Belle would find a way to spin this on him. There was a silence in the hallway as they stood outside his private quarters and Ghost let out a very irritated huff.
"Sorry." Ghost grunted out, ignoring his own pride. He watched as Belle's eyes lit up a little.
"For?" Belle asked and Ghost glared at her, not liking the game she was trying to play with him at the late hour. He wasn't in the mood for this, she'd gotten an apology, a shit one, but an apology, nonetheless. Something that was rare from Simon Riley.
"You're joking." Ghost said under his breath, more annoyed than anything now as Belle continued to stare up at him. She was in fact not joking in the slightest. Ghost was starting to want to shake her for how often she got into his head. He let out an angry huff, shaking his head a little before speaking again. "I'm sorry for, I don't know, telling the truth." He attempted and Belle looked less than impressed.
"For making my life hard for no reason." Belle offered him, her hazel eyes not leaving his face as she watched him scowl at the idea. In all honesty Ghost didn't think he was making her life hard, if anything he could make it even harder if she had such a problem with it. But he knew he wasn't getting out of this anytime soon, even if he didn't want to apologize anymore then he had.
"You're impossible." Ghost grunted out, glancing up and down the hall, suddenly realizing how it would look if he was caught standing outside of his private quarters with her, this late at night. The rumors would spread faster than a wildfire in dry season. She waited, staring up at him and unmoving from where she had her little boots planted on the ground outside his door. He decided just to bite the bullet. "I'm sorry for making your life hard." Ghost said, not sounding anything close to happy as the words left his lips in more of a grumble rather than a normal sentence. He waited for Belle's reaction. "Happy?" He finally asked, obviously over whatever back and forth they had going on.
"For now." Belle finally said, giving him a little nod and moving to walk away. Ghost grunted as he unlocked her door, watching her form disappear back down the hall, completely unaware of the grin which was spreading across Belle's face. It was her first big win with him which in the long run would be nothing, but right now it was progress.
