73| Pineapple Upside Down Upside Down Cake
Ellie's POV » the day before they leave »
When I wake up in the morning, I'm surprised to hear rain pattering against the sliding glass door.
Opening my eyes slowly, I see grey clouds covering the whole sky from my view on the bed. The rain comes down against the balcony and window gently, creating a calm atmosphere.
I turn over on the comfy bed and see Jungkook rolled onto his stomach with his face towards me. I reach out and softly move his dark hair out of his face so I can see him better.
How can one person hold so much beauty? I cup his jaw and run my thumb over his cheek for a moment before letting my arm go limp against the sheets again.
Instead of staying there staring at the love of my life in peace, there's a knock at the door. "Come in," I call just loud enough for the person to hear.
Jessie walks in looking like she has the most important information ever, "we need to talk."
"What about?" I ask but she doesn't reply, only looking at me and waving her hand to motion me toward her.
I sigh and get out of our warm bed to go with her. We leave and she takes me downstairs into the living room to practically jump on the couch in exhilaration. "You'll never guess what Hobi and I did last night!" She keeps her voice down, but the excitement is still there.
"You had sex again?" I answer questioningly.
"No- well, yes, but that's not what I'm talking about," she smiles, "we said we love each other!"
I gasp in happiness, "really? That's so great!"
"Yessss! And it felt so genuine!" She gets all giddy.
"How did it happen?"
"We were getting ready for bed, he was brushing his teeth, and I just thought out loud, but then he spat toothpaste all over the mirror," she giggles, "and then he said it back!"
I give a wide smile, unbelievably happy for them. I hug her and afterwards, she jumps up and spins in a circle, "I'm in loooove!" She sings joyously.

"What are we going to do today?" Namjoon asks with his jaw in his hand while sitting at the table, "because it's raining with lightning, so we can't go to the beach."
"We're leaving tomorrow morning, we can just clean the whole day. We were going to do that anyway, we can just start now," I suggest.
"Cleaning isn't fun, princess," Jimin walks by and ruffles my hair.
"Do you have any better plans?" I raise a brow at him.
"Strip poker," he says casually and the rest of us erupt with disagreement.
"No way!" I shake my head.
"Looks like we'll be cleaning, then," Jungkook chuckles from next to me.
"Alright, so who's doing what?" Hoseok asks.
"Let's draw the chores from a hat," Yoongi takes his hat off and we agree.
After drawing from the hat, we all get our tasks. Jessie and I have to clean the kitchen, so we get started by taking the cleaners out and placing them on the counter while the boys begin their own chores.

"WOOOO!" Hoseok slides past us on the dining room floor. He and Taehyung have decided to clean the dining room by putting cleaner on the floor and on their bare feet to race back and forth.
"You're gonna hurt yourself, hon, be careful," Jessie accosts with a smile but her boyfriend pays no attention to her when he smacks right into Taehyung, making both of them fall straight onto their butts.
I giggle and continue cleaning the kitchen counters, wiping them all down while Jessie is next to me cleaning the floor on her hands and knees.
Someone put on 50s and 60s music a few minutes ago so we're all bopping along to the tunes as we clean.
"IT WAS AN ITSY BITSY TEENIE WEENIE YELLOW POLKA DOT BIKINI!" We all shout through the house, even hearing Namjoon who is upstairs vacuuming.
I start to clean all the appliances through the kitchen and jam to all the songs coming on until the laundry room door opens.
"Look what I found, guys," Jimin speaks from the doorway and all of us look in his direction.
He's holding up black lace panties and "Jimin!" Jessie scolds with a motherly tone and rushes to him, snatching them straight out of his hands.
I'm laughing with everyone else only until he pulls out my white risqué bra. I gasp and go over to grab it but he raises it higher than my head, "Jimin let it go!" I jump up next to the shortest man in the room, still not being able to reach it.
"Why is everyone yelling?" Jungkook comes downstairs and I look at him with Jimin behind me holding my bra far above his head.
He crosses his arms over his chest, and looks at Jimin unamused by his tricks, "come on, man."
"Fine, here you go, princess," he sighs and drops it into my hands.
I look into the basket of cleaned clothes and pick out the rest of my delicates, leaving to go to my room as soon as I have them.
Kookie follows me upstairs and into our room as I put my things into my suitcase. I stand up afterwards and look around at the spotless room, "it looks really good in here."
"Thanks," he threads his fingers through my long hair, "we should probably get back to work, though."
"Yeah," I agree and we give each other a sweet but chaste kiss before I leave.
When I get downstairs, I slip on something slippery at the bottom of the steps and fall onto my butt. "Ow!" I yelp when I hit the floor.
"You okay?" Seokjin turns around and stops dusting to look at me.
"Yeah, I'm alright," I get up and walk away from the slippery area.
He returns to dusting off the shelves in the living room and I go back to the kitchen just as Taehyung and Hoseok pass me by sliding around on their bare feet.
After cleaning everything top to bottom, we eat dinner, and everyone votes me to make dessert.
We decide on pineapple upside down cake to be at least a little in-theme with the vacation.
I start by heating the oven and melting the butter in a pan. I spin on my heel to get the rest of the ingredients out; pineapple slices, cherries, cake mix, vegetable oil, and finally, eggs.
"You're a real chef in here, birdy," Jungkook comes into the room as I sprinkle brown sugar in the pan of now melted butter.
"I feel like a chef," I smile and feel him come up right behind me.
"Do you need any help?" He watches as I dust off my hands from the brown sugar and then carefully place the pineapple slices in the pan.
"I don't think so," I tell him honestly, "but thanks."
"Alright, we're all playing poker in the living room, so if you need anything just holler," he kisses my cheek and leaves me smiling wider with a new pink tint to my cheeks.
Needing to get back on track, I focus on placing the maraschino cherries in the center and around each pineapple slice, gently pressing them all into the brown sugar.
Next is the cake mix. I read the instructions on the box and follow accordingly, substituting the pineapple juice mixture for water instead.
After mixing it all together, I pour the batter evenly over the pineapple slices and everything else, then stick it in the oven for about forty-five minutes.
"Noo!!" A few people in the next room over shout.
"Yess!!" The others reply with a shout and I smile a little before going into the room.
"How's it going?" I ask them all sitting around the coffee table with cards and poker chips.
"We're winning," Jungkook smiles confidently at me.
"Only because they're cheating!" Jessie accuses with a finger pointed to them.
"We are not cheating, you're just bad at this," Jimin smirks.
"You shuffled the cards and gave yourself all the good ones," Hoseok claims.
"Did not," Taehyung combats, "you saw me shuffle them!"
"Alright, alright, enough," I defuse the boys and Jessie, "I just put the cake in the oven, how about we do something else until it buzzes?"
"We could...." Seokjin looks off in thought, "...play rock, paper, scissors."
"For forty-five minutes?" Namjoon snorts, "no way."
"You wanna go?" He puts his fist on top of his other palm and Namjoon accepts his challenge.
The start playing rock, paper, scissors, and the rest of us end up slouching on the floor around the coffee table with bored expressions.
......For forty-five minutes.
The oven buzzes just as Namjoon throws rock and Seokjin throws scissors, "so who has more wins?" Namjoon asks.
"I wasn't keeping track," Taehyung shrugs and I get up to get the pineapple upside down cake out.
I walk into the kitchen while they decide on who won, and after getting the oven mitts on, I pull the freshly baked cake out.
"That smells good," Hoseok pops his head into the kitchen, "is it done?"
"Nope," I get out a heat-proof tray and place it on top before flipping the whole thing over and taking my mitts off, "now it needs to cool down for thirty minutes."
"Awe," he pouts and goes back into the living room.
I set an alarm on my phone for thirty minutes before following him out.
"Remember that time Taehyung tried making ramen in his dorm but he caught the microwave on fire?" Yoongi chuckles.
"Yeah," they all laugh a little. "But that was our first year here," Jimin remarks, "so he wasn't a professional ramen chef quite yet."
"You think that's bad?" Taehyung smirks, "What about when Jungkook-"
This goes on for about thirty minutes until the alarm on my phone goes off, and then everyone piles into the dining room where the plates and silverware are set out.
"It smells so nice, Ellie," Jimin is practically salivating.
"Thanks for making this, El," Jessie blows me a kiss.
"You're welcome everyone," I pick up the original pan off the top and set it aside while I take the pineapple upside down cake off the counter, "I hope you guys like-" I trip over my own feet and the cake goes flying out of my hands.
It's almost in slow motion the way everyone stares as it not-so-gracefully crashes to the floor upside down.
"Nooo!" I whine in despair holding a now empty tray.
We all stare wide-eyed at the upside down pineapple upside down cake, shocked and sad that it's ruined.
"I'm sorry, guys," I sigh and drop my arms.
"It's not that bad," Jungkook assures me and stands up.
"It's upside down."
"You think that'll stop us from eating it?" Jimin snorts and stands up with a fork in his hand, "Pineapple upside down upside down cake."
"And we just cleaned the floors," Jessie stands with him and soon everyone makes their way to the upside down cake on the floor.
I giggle and grab my fork before following the group. We all sit cross-legged around the poor pineapple upside down upside down cake and clink our forks together before finally digging-in to our long-awaited dessert.
