4| Focus
Jungkook and I work on the presentation for what seems like hours. Sad thing is, we only have three slides completed.
I blame the lack of completed slides on Jungkook. He's such a goofball and he won't stop joking and being the charismatic flirt he is.
I can't deny that I laugh with him sometimes, but we seriously need to get this done.
"Can you please focus for one minute?" I ask him, becoming more and more irritated as time passes.
"I'm looking at Apollo, calm yourself." He reassures me.
"You're looking at an animated cartoon about Apollo killing the Python."
"Is it not what we're attempting to find out more about? Lighten up, Ellie." The use of my name from his mouth is bittersweet in a way, but I push those thoughts wayyy down.
"If we were making a 3rd grader's report on Apollo, it would be just fine. Since we're in university and this counts as our exam grade, it's not so fine." I explain but he just stares back at me; he doesn't even look like he's listening to a word I'm saying.
I see him click on another video and I groan. "I'm really starting to think you don't have ears."
He doesn't respond and I nod to myself, "It's been proven."

It only takes me 12 tries for Jungkook to actually leave my dorm room.
"Jungkook, it's late."
"8:00pm is not late, grandma." He says as I physically push him out the door and into the hallway.
"Don't you have other things to do?" I stare at him with agitated eyes. "You've been goofing off this whole time, you must have something after this to actually pay attention to."
He looks slightly shocked by my insult. "I was working."
"Yeah, for ten minutes maybe." I roll my eyes contumeliously. "We only have four of our slides done because someone keeps slacking."
He bites the inside of his cheek, "I do have something to do now that I think about it."
"What is it?" I cross my arms. "Drinking with your friends? Partying with all the frat dudes?"
"None of your business." He smiles. "You need to let go sometimes. Stop being so uptight."
"Me? Uptight?" I scoff. "I am, like, anything but uptight."
"Yeah, okay." He stares at me playfully, his bunny smile on full display.
I step away and glare at him once more before shutting the door in his face.
"Is this routine now?" He shouts from outside the door. "That's like the third time you've closed the door on me."
"Why don't you just stop bothering me? I can't shut the door on you if you're not here!" I shout back at the closed door.
"Or you could just be a little more polite." I can hear the stupid smile in his voice.
"Oh you think I should be more polite? You barged into my dorm room and made yourself at home without me saying it was okay!" I ball my fists and yell at the door in front of me. I wait for his response but get nothing.
Did he really leave me here to yell at a door?
I twist the knob and aggressively pull the door open only to be met with a doe-eyed, bunny-smiling Jungkook, "You miss me already?"
"UGHH!" I slam the door this time and lock it before going to my bed and groaning in annoyance.
Momentarily, I lay in an uncomfortably tense silence with myself. But then my phone rings. I pick it up and who is it?
My mom
I sigh and prepare myself for the craziness of my mother before answering with a half-assed "Hello?"
"Oh hi sweetie!" Her voice rings loudly through the phone. "I was just calling to ask how your life has been and all that. I had a dream last night that you seemed angry."
Here she goes again with her lunatic thoughts. My mom truly believes she's one with the elements sometimes and she can 'sense the world in many ways.'
"I'm just fine, mom." I tell her. I've always been close and happy with her, but this is just not the day to call me.
"I'm sensing you aren't 'just fine'." She states. "What's happening? Did Jessie do something? Becca? Oliver?"
"No, it wasn't them." I let out a heavy sigh. "Remember me talking about this guy named Jungkook back in my first year here?"
"Vaguely, yes." She says, "If I remember correctly you said he was an 'insolent bastard with too much self-esteem."
I smile at my mom's use of my quote. "Yep, that's the guy. Anyway, he is most definitely living up to the title I gave him."
"Is he annoying or something?"
"More than annoying. He's so infuriating that I don't feel like I can walk in a straight line if he's within 500 yards of me. I want to punch him in his stupid face to knock the cockiness out of him. Can you believe he has the nerve to pester me of all people? Why can't he just pay attention to some other girl? He has at least a thousand girls crushing on him right now, and I'm never going to be one of them." I rant on and on while she listens patiently. "Oh and get this! He basically forced me to be in a group with him, and then after classes he came to my dorm room and let himself in!"
"Sounds like a delight." She laughs.
"It's not funny, mom. He's a dick." I complain even more. "We have a 20+ slide presentation on Apollo due by the end of the semester for our exam grade and whenever we work, all he does is joke around!"
"It sounds like he wants your attention." She suggests.
"He can get any other girl's attention just by looking in their general direction, I don't see why he would want the-girl-that-doesnt-like-him's attention."
"You're beautiful, intelligent, witty." She compliments. "Any guy would love to be with you and have your attention, it doesn't matter if you like him back or not."
"If only Seokjin would pay as much attention to me as Jungkook does." I sigh.
"You will get your Seokjin one day, you just need to invite him into your life, I have some crystals that might bring you good luck."
"No thanks, mom." I look at my ceiling. "So how's your life been?"
"Well..."
My mom talks about her crystals and stones, saying that she feels like her friend has been healed by one of them after said friend's dog died.
But now it's 9:30pm and I still need to shower. "Mom, I gotta go."
"Oh alright. I hope you and Jungkook get your differences resolved before the end of the semester."
"I hope not. That guy is an ass, I don't want to associate with him at all after this semester." I snort. "Anyway, bye mom. Say hi to dad for me, love you."
"I will," She says cheerfully, "Love you, too."
We hang up and I close my eyes as I flop my phone down on my bed. So I'm being forced to work with Jungkook for a whole semester, and my mom doesn't even side with me when I say he's an ass? Wonderful.
I stand up and go to my bathroom to take a shower. It's small, but at least I have one unlike most schools' dorm rooms.

I come out of my bathroom with wet hair paired with sweatpants and a pj shirt. It's after 10:00pm and all I want to do is sleep.
I rub my eyes and get under my comforter, letting my body lock into the softness as I pull it all the way up to my neck.
I don't understand people who only have their blankets half-way up their bodies. I have to be warm at all times everywhere to get any sleep.
Anyway, I get completely comfortable and then I-
RING RING
The noise annoyingly comes out of my phone and I answer without looking at the caller ID. "Hello?"
"Heyyy." Jungkook's voice rings just as annoyingly as the phone's ringtone.
Shoot. He must've saved my number in his phone when I called him.
"What do you want." I say in a monotone voice.
"I just wanted to say goodnight."
"Why?"
"It's nice to hear goodnight sometimes, even if you hate the person saying it." He says matter-of-factly.
"Whatever."
"Well...?" He encourages.
"What?" I ask.
"Aren't you going to say goodnight?" He inquires like a child.
"No." I hang up and put my phone on my nightstand but as soon as it gets there it rings again. Dammit, rabbit-boy
"What." I answer.
"Just say it." Jungkook tells me.
"No." I hang up for a second time but yet again, he calls. "Jungkook, stop calling me."
"Not until you say goodnight."
"I don't want to say that to you unless my life depends on it." I roll my eyes.
"Well your sleep depends on it." He lets out a carefree laugh.
"So does yours." I snap back.
"What I'm hearing is; you can say goodnight and let the both of us sleep, or not say one simple word, and we show up to class sleep deprived tomorrow."
I roll my eyes about fifty whole times at his statement. "Or you could just leave me alone."
"Just say it."
I glance at the clock reading 10:15pm and let out a loooong sigh, "Goodnight." I say quietly.
"See? There you go!" I can hear the smile in his voice. "It's not that hard-"
I hang up and keep my phone in my hand. I wait for him to call back, but he doesn't. Placing my phone onto my nightstand, I get back under my comforter completely and fall asleep with a few questions floating around my mind.

I arrive to class and Jessie is sitting at her desk with her laptop open. "Sorry, Jess, I know we didn't get much done." I apologize.
"What?" She gives me a look. "You guys got ten slides done, what are you talking about?"
"What are you talking about?" I set my books down and go behind her to look at her screen. "Are you sure we're talking about the same presentation?"
She scrolls, showing me that there are definitely ten slides done. "Did Jungkook do this?" She asks and faces toward me.
"I-I guess so...?" I stand upright with my hands on my hips. "How did he? When did... What the heck?"
"You having some trouble?" Jungkook's voice comes out of nowhere and he plops down right beside me.
Jessie grins a little bit and looks back at her screen.
"No, not trouble." I conclude, "I'm just perplexed."
"Why?" He leans back in his chair and spins a pen through his fingers.
"When you went home last night we only had a few slides done." I tell him.
"So I did more. What's the problem?"
"I just-" I squint my eyes and frown. "Nevermind. Thanks for doing some more slides. Did you cite-"
"I told you you'd thank me again." He smirks and continues flipping the pen around. "And yes, I did cite all the websites and blah blah blah. I even put a picture of Mr. Apollo himself on slide 8."
You know? He almost makes me mad. Why is it so easy for him to goof around when we actually need things to be done, but then once we stop, he's all over it?
Jessie glances at me and I shrug, opening my laptop and going to the presentation.
After some time of working, I begin to become annoyed, and then annoyed turns into mildly infuriated.
"Jungkook. Stop. Tapping. Me." I accost the man-child sitting next to me. He's been 'accidentally' hitting my foot with his own every two minutes and it's really getting on my nerves.
He smirks, "I have no idea what you're talking about."
I look to Jess and she's already watching us argue. "See? This is what I'm talking about." I gesture to him while looking at her.
"You talk about me?" Jungkook wiggles his eyebrows.
"Not good things." I snort and he rolls his eyes.
"Just stop messing with each other?" Jess suggests and I face-palm myself. He, of course, chuckles at my frustration and returns to working.
"Will do."

If you were doing a presentation with him, how would you react to his antics?
