"And the first prize for 100 meters running competition goes to R. Sanjayram, 4th standard A section," the teacher announced in the Annual sports day function. Sathya's face glowed in happiness and she clapped standing up from her seat. She never felt this proud of anything in her life and her eyes welled in happy tears. Sanjay went to the stage for getting the price. Sathya took pictures from standing there.
Sanjay also got the highest mark in the class and bought another medal for it. Getting the prizes Sanjay came to his mom and Sathya hugged him.
"My sweetheart," she kissed his cheeks.
Though Sathya was happy at that moment, she remembered that he's exactly like his father. Intelligent, smart and interested in athletics but she wishes that he shouldn't turn entirely like Raghu.
"Amma where in paati (grandma)?" he asked.
"She's in the house, Sanju," Sathya replied. "Shall we go home?"
"Yes, it's so boring here, ma," Sanjay grinned and they walked out of his school after informing his class teacher who has now become a very good friend to Sathya.
Sanjay sat behind Sathya on the scooter and together they went to their house. Everything has changed in her life, she's filled with positive vibes and nowadays she's too energetic.
How crazy it is, after all those heartbreaks she has gone through, this life is kind enough to show her the ways to live happily. Sathya was smart, she took everything to brighten her life.
It's been five years since Raghu left the family. For Sathya, he's gone entirely from their life. There are no traces of him after crossing all those phases of mental healing. In the starting, she was afraid like how she's going to live as a single mom but now she came out all those stereotypes and barriers that blocked her way to a happy life. Sometimes you have to die a little inside to find your new self, in her case it happened. She has this one thought in her head that she wants to be free and positive.
Her determination to lead a good life has finally come true. She's earning a lot which is enough for her to run the family and to save money for opening her own hotel someday.
Sathya's taking cooking classes in the weekend and from there, her friends' circle has expanded. She's mingling with everyone, and her face always carrying a welcoming smile.
Parking her scooter before the house, Sathya headed inside carrying Sanjay's bag and her handbag. It's a small house but Sathya loved it because it has more windows and in the morning the sun will show up in all the windows. Sathya's mom welcomed them with a big smile, like every other aged woman she couldn't do much work these days.
Sanjay showed the medal to his grandma and she was so happy to see it. Sanjay was more attached to his grandmother since he spends most of his time with her. Sanjay headed inside the bedroom after dropping the bags on the shelf.
She laid on the bed and stretched her legs, after all, it's a tiring day for her. "Sathya do you want tea?" her mom came inside and Sanjay started to remove his uniform.
"Yes, ma," she replied with a smile and looked at Sanjay. He's the only hope and love of her life but he didn't miss her to remind Raghu every day. As he grows, he seemed to be a carbon copy of Raghu. His face, his eyes, his nose and everything resembles like his father.
Sanjay kept asking about his father and at a certain point, Sathya couldn't hide anymore and told that his father has left them. He didn't ask the reason and became silent, from that day he never asked the same question. She couldn't understand his mindset but she's making sure that he won't yearn for his father's love.
Sathya got up, "Sanju, come here," she called and he came with a smile.
"What do you want? Amma will buy anything for you since today you got prizes," she smiled.
Sanjay thought for a moment and said, "Pizza ma," Sathya giggled. "Last week also you asked the same thing, Sanjay."
"But I like it ma," he reasoned squinting his eyes. The same way, Raghu does in the past. She's irked to see it and plastering a smile.
"Okay, I will make it tomorrow," Sathya told and Sanjay went out to play in happiness.
Sathya again stumbled on the bed looking at the spinning fan. Whenever someone asks about her husband, the pain she has to say "I am divorced" is greater than anything. He just left her for a single time but in a day at least she will remind it for three times. As she guessed, this is not something that will easily fade away; it will stay with her as long she lives in this world.
Even he won't think about me but I am here thinking about him every day, she thought and stood up from the bed but she never wanted him to come back to her anymore. She greatly loved him when he couldn't love himself but now she's tired of doing that. Initially she felt difficult with her feelings then later she understood her life and came out of that guilty compulsive emotions.
Tying her long hair in a bun she went to the bathroom to fresh up. After washing her face, she looked herself in the mirror.
She's same, still looking like her twenty-three old self. Sathya's eyes fell on her neck, she's still wearing her wedding chain. There's a belief that a married woman should remove her wedding chain only after her husband's death if she removes then it means he's dead. Sathya doesn't want to do when Raghu was still alive and she also wore it to escape from those preying men.
She came out and changed into her pyjamas. Her mom gave tea and Sathya turned on the television to watch serials. She used to do it to pass her boring time. She won't watch anything except those two serials and then Sanjay came for the competition. He asked Sathya to put Shinchan. Then after an argument Sathya reluctantly did.
She watched the show for some time and then came out of the house to sit on the stairs. Her work life was going smoothly. She went to Bangalore but she doesn't like the atmosphere there and the cost of living is too high so Sathya came back to Chennai itself. In between, she heard Raghu was still staying in the Ashram and he has become a strong devotee to the Guruji. Sathya thought at least he's devoted to the man. She has heard many things about that Ashram and Guruji. He is not a good man in her opinion, there are a lot of accusations and controversies on him. She doesn't know what to believe and concluded Raghu is a fool. When she was in her thoughts, her mom called her.
"Your phone kept ringing, Sathya. Check who it is," she told.
Sathya saw an unknown number, she dialled back and a man talked, "Is this Sathya?"
"Yes, I am Sathya,"
"I am inspector speaking from Coimbatore, can I know where you are?" he asked.
"I am in Chennai sir, why you are asking?" she questioned.
"It's regarding your husband, Raghuram. Is he your husband?"
"He's my ex-husband. But what happened to him?" she became anxious.
"He's arrested for a case and I want your urgent presence here," he shocked her. Why he's going to be arrested when he was peacefully living in that ashram.
"What case? Can you please explain?" she asked.
"Please watch it on the TV, he is on the headlines and we need your presence here. Can you come to Coimbatore tomorrow?" he asked.
"Sure, I will come," ending the call Sathya bought the remote from Sanjay and turned on the news channel nervously. Her hands shook in fear when she turned on the volume high.
The news is flashing that -one of the devotees of Guruji has fatally stabbed him to death and his name is Raghuram. Sathya was stunned and stumbled on the floor.
What a stupid thing he has done! She exclaimed and looked at Sanjay who's reading the news as well. Her eyes welled in tears. Sathya turned off the TV and asked Sanjay to play outside. He agreed and went out with his toys.
"Sathya, what is this?" her mom poured her shock.
"I don't know mom, the police officer asked me to come to Coimbatore tomorrow. I am going mom, you look after Sanjay," she told.
"I will also come with you," she said.
"No mom, I don't want Sanjay to know about these things, please you stay with him here and I will manage on my own," Sathya said since the next two days are weekend. Both his Uncle and Aunt died in these five years, Raghu has no one except Sathya and his cousin Gowri, so probably he has given her number.
Booking a bus ticket, Sathya prepared to leave in the night itself. In between, she got a call from Gowri. She told that she got the news and asked Sathya to come to her house in Coimbatore.
Sathya couldn't sleep for a single moment in the bus and kept thinking about Raghu and their past, without her knowledge she proved that she's still having him in the deepest part of her heart.
