Juno had never felt such euphoria before until today. She felt her mind wandering in her art class, because she didn't have Stiles next to her, passing over notes with puns written on them which would often annoy Coach Finstock. She understood what Cyrus meant when he mentioned that he became addicted to the scent of the one he was most attracted to, although Juno couldn't believe how quickly it had happened to her.
Maybe it was because she was quite a young Vampire; nowadays Vampires tend to not turn humans since it means they would have to raise them as their own, not to mention there can be consequences involved depending on who you turn and how old they are. There is some sort of Vampire hierarchy that create 'laws' for Vampires. Cyrus, being one of the oldest Vampires, is not apart of the hierarchy, but is quite close with them, and tends to not be bothered by them even if he does 'break the Vampire law'.
The youngest Vampires tend to be around seventy years old, since there was a big 'boom' of newborn Vampires during the first and second world wars, and even then after that many years it's still hard to adjust to the lifestyle. Newborn Vampires are also unable to control their thirst, and will go on killing sprees to tame their hunger. They can't be controlled by anyone unless it's the Vampire that turned them, which is why many Vampires refuse to turn others because of the responsibilities they will have to take on.
The girl with strawberry blonde sat next to Juno with a raised eyebrow as she watched her paint on her canvas. The class was instructed to paint the set of bottles in front of them, but Juno instead was creating her own abstract piece.
She cleared her throat and leaned over so that she wouldn't disturb the rest of the class, "you know we're doing realism for the first few weeks?" She asked with a raspy voice.
Juno blinked a few times and looked over at the strawberry blonde. She looked at her near complete work, then looked back at her own which was in fact a masterpiece to the right people, but not what she was told to do.
"Right, I was just a bit out of this. Thanks," Juno sighed.
The girl squinted at Juno, "where are you from?" She asked.
"London."
The girl cocked her head to the side in confusion, "you don't sound like you're from London, but you don't sound anywhere near American, it's like you're in the middle," she said. The girl looked at Juno's floral dress, but quickly looked back at her artwork. "Cute dress," she said quickly, almost as if she didn't want to admit it.
Juno smiled, "thank you, I'm Juno by the way," she introduced, holding her hand out for a handshake.
The girl simply looked down at her hand. She reluctantly shook it, but only out of courtesy, and because there was somehow a girl in Beacon Hills who was on her level of looks. Perhaps even higher.
"Lydia Martin. I guess since this is the first time I've seen you around here and because you have a Mid-Atlantic accent, you're not from around here are you?" She asked. Lydia hummed as Juno confirmed her statement. She looked up at the ceiling in thought, then looked back at Juno with a smile. "Do you have any friends?" She asked.
Juno stuttered for a moment. She had met Isaac, Scott and Stiles, and although she felt rather attached to Stiles already, she couldn't really call them friends. "I've met a few people, but no friends really-"
"Well then I guess I'm you're new friend," Lydia interrupted. Her eyes darted back to her nearly complete painting, leaving Juno to sit in confusion. How Lydia had suddenly become her friend she didn't know, but something about her made Juno not want to argue, and to just deal with it. Juno scrapped the abstract painting in front of her and began doing what she was meant to be doing.
-
Juno followed close behind Lydia. Lydia had told Juno that she would introduce her to another one of her friends, Allison. Juno couldn't find anything in her to object Lydia's, well, orders. When entering the cafeteria, Juno spotted Scott and Stiles sitting together at one of the tables. Stiles waved frantically at her, beckoning her to join them. Juno looked at him apologetically and nodded her head towards Lydia, then sat down at the table Lydia had lead her to.
Stiles scoffed and shook his head, turning back to Scott. "This is what, basically her second day and she's somehow good friends with Lydia?" Stiles took out his frustration on his packet of chips, by ripping them open aggressively, causing a few to fly out onto the table on the floor. Scott chuckled as his best friend let out a whimper, staring at the scattered chips. "Great," he muttered.
"Just chill out, you have like every class with her if you're worried about not seeing her," Scott reassured, taking a bite into his apple. "Maybe you could even convince Coach to have her join the Lacrosse team if you're that desperate."
Stiles sighed as he looked over his shoulder, looking at Juno listen to Lydia going on about something to her.
"I reckon you'll love Allison, you two seem like you'd get along," Lydia said, "look, there she is right now!" Lydia waved to the girl with curly brunette hair who looked at the back of Juno's head oddly, raising an eyebrow at Lydia, wanting an explanation. She sat down next to Juno, across from Lydia. "Juno, this is Allison Argent."
Juno's eyes widened at her surname. Argent, an old family of hunters, particularly of Werewolves. Juno remembered a story Cyrus had told her as they were leaving France, how his eyes began to glow, and a woman had mistaken him for a Werewolf, and attacked him. He made it out alive, but when he found out there was a family of supernatural hunters, he definitely have them an ear full.
A long story short, The Argents and the two Clarkes are on thin ice together, and have been as long as the Argent line has continued. Their code: We hunt those who hunt us, ended up applying to Vampires as well thanks to Cyrus and his outrage with the family. The Argents had vowed to leave Juno and Cyrus alone, knowing that they don't drink to kill, rather they 'take a sip' as the Argents put it, but if they were to kill an innocent, or turn someone, they would be hunted.
"Hi," Juno greeted shyly. Allison gave her a lighthearted smile and held out her hand for a handshake. Accepting, Allison decided to break the beginning of an awkward silence.
"So where did you come from before you came here?" Allison asked.
"I've been all over the place. I came to Beacon Hills from a small town in Oregon, but I'm originally from London," Juno sighed.
Allison's eyebrows raised in surprise, "you're from London? That's so cool! You know I used to move around a lot too, I was the new girl not that long ago, so I know how you feel," Allison said, smiling at Juno.
Juno found it hard to trust Allison because of her surname, but Allison seemed really nice. Of course, a simple nice introduction shouldn't stray her thoughts of the Argents. Juno simply chuckled, and reached into her bag for blood, disguised as a Capri Sun.
Lydia cocked her head to the side as she watched Juno suck down on the Capri Sun and finish it in seconds. She decided not to say anything, after all, she had seen much more odd things than a girl thirsty for juice.
Allison sighed in annoyance and put her head down, "Lydia they're staring again," she muttered. Lydia turned around and focused her attention on Stiles and Scott, both staring at Juno intently. Juno looked over also, cracking a smile as the two quickly grabbed the books in front of them and over exaggerated their focus on them.
Lydia turned around sharply and stared at Juno, "you know them?" She asked.
"I have most of my classes with them," Juno admitted. "They're pretty nice guys, funny too." Juno cut herself off before she could continue going on about them, or begin to go on about Stiles in particular. She smiled as she watched Stiles occasionally try to glance over, but instantly freak out and look away once he made eye contact with June.
Lydia caught on with Juno's thoughts, knowing that there was most likely a crush beginning to form. Allison however looked slightly worried. She wasn't keen on speaking to Scott since they had broken up, but with Juno now hanging out with them, that might be unavoidable. Juno noticed Allison looking over at Scott with a concerned look. "Do you not like them?" She asked.
"Oh no they're great guys it's just..." Allison trailed off.
Lydia sighed, "Scott is Allison's ex. It's kind of awkward between them now."
"Oh, I'm really sorry to hear that," Juno mumbled. There was a silence between the three girls. Juno cringed, feeling stupid for apologising and making the conversation weirder. Allison clearing her thirst caused Junk to jolt in her seat slightly.
"Do you wanna hang out at mine after school? We have that English assignment and we can all work on it together," she suggested. "And I mean, you know I need to start hanging with friends more often, rather than..." Allison trailed off as her eyes wandered in Scott's direction.
Lydia nodded, "yeah I'll drive us."
Juno felt slightly out of place. These two girls were complete strangers to her, the only thing she knew about Lydia was that she was a beautiful girl who was also intelligent, and all she knew about Allison was that she is apart of the family that are not allies to her own. She bit her lip, but ended up giving in, and nodded.
"Yeah, I just have to tell my brother not to pick me up then," Juno sighed. Allison and Lydia both looked at her with raised eyebrows. Juno looked at them oddly also, "what?"
Lydia kept staring, "aren't you going to tell him?" She asked. Juno nodded. "Then why aren't you?"
Juno became more confused, "I'll tell him after school..."
Allison let out a light chuckle, "can't you just text him?" She asked. Juno froze, technology wasn't exactly her area of expertise. Of course, she knew how to search for something, but she didn't really know how to turn anything on or fix anything if it broke. At one point, Juno spent about ten minutes trying to work a DVD player in 2005 when she was having a sleepover with a few friends.
"Oh, I don't have a phone," Juno mumbled. The two girls exchanged a look of horror, before looking back at Juno as if she had grown an extra head.
Lydia struggled to find words, "you're a junior in high school and you don't even have your own phone?" She asked in disbelief, "you're kidding right?"
Juno began to tense up, feeling excluded. She'd never felt afraid to lose a 'friend' because of her lack of experience in technology, but something about Lydia's somewhat intimidating personality made her feel small.
"Oh, n-no I just meant I don't have one because my other one just doesn't work anymore," Juno lied, "I accidentally dropped it in water..."
"Ah, that makes sense." Allison sighed. "Well, we'll wait for you after school at the front, does that sound okay?"
Juno nodded, "y-yeah, should be fine."
-
Juno, Allison and Lydia parted ways as they left the building, so that Juno could tell Cyrus where she was going. She felt somewhat anxious, Cyrus could easily read her mind and discover that she would be at a home belonging to the Argent family, so Juno wasn't confident she could go.
Before she could go, a hand wrapped around her wrist and tugged on her arm slightly, halting her movements and making her turn around. Juno could recognise the scent anywhere, it was Stiles who stopped her.
"H-hey Juno! I know you're probably going to go home and all but tonight one of my friends is throwing a party, and I thought maybe you could tag along so you could meet some new people you know? Some other kids that don't go to Beacon Hills High," Stiles said, almost out of breath as he finished his question. A feeling of anticipation washed over Juno suddenly. She looked at Stiles, staring down at her eagerly.
There was an odd sensation occurring, something that Juno hadn't experienced nor been taught of before. She could sense Stiles' anticipation, but she could also feel it. It was as if she could feel the emotion that he was feeling, and it made her want to say yes. But Juno remembered why she was quickly hurrying over to Cyrus, so she could go to Allison's place.
Juno felt guilty as she looked up at him apologetically, "Allison invited me to her place after school," Juno mumbled, "and I'm not really a party person."
Stiles nodded quickly, "yeah! That's great! Allison's really nice uhm, I'm sorry I asked you know since we're barely friends and all," Stiles laughed nervously and forced a smile. Juno felt the feeling of embarrassment flood her senses, and knew that Stiles had felt idiotic for asking. She new she needed to end their mini conversation, she couldn't stand this mortified feeling when she herself wasn't actually embarrassed.
"I'll see you later, Stiles," she sighed. Stiles waved as she turned around and walked away from him. He sighed as he watched Juno go over to her car. His deep thoughts about his attraction to her quickly faded away as Scott patted his back in reassurance. "It's just you and I tonight buddy."
Juno shivered as she tried to shake away the feeling of embarrassment from her, it was as if Stiles' feelings would project onto her when she was near him. Juno made her way over to Cyrus' car, and knocked on the driver's window and pointed downwards signalling Cyrus to roll the window down. Cyrus did so, and looked at her confusedly.
"Aren't you going to get in?" He asked.
Juno took a deep breath, afraid that Cyrus would say no to her. "I was just wondering if maybe I could go to Allison and Lydia's house? I'm doing what you said, and actually making some friends," Juno urged, using Cyrus' argument before school started.
Cyrus squinted as he looked at her. Juno was gifted with the ability to sense when a Vampire read her mind, it was something she learned to do after seven hundred years of dealing with it from Cyrus. Juno closed her eyes as she tried to ignore the Argent surname, but of course, Cyrus was able to find out. Juno expected an instant no to escape his lips, but her eyes opened in shock at the answer she got instead.
"Fine, but I'm picking up up at 5:30," Cyrus said sternly. Juno sighed in relief, she couldn't believe he had agreed to it. Of course, she was a tad annoyed that Cyrus would use his tracking power to pick her up, but she could come up an excuse for that with Lydia and Allison.
"Really? Great!" Juno chirped. Juno was about to walk away, but she stopped herself and looked back at Cyrus. "Also, could we maybe get mobile phones?" She asked.
Cyrus sighed in annoyance, "what are these Beacon Hills kids doing to you, June?" He asked. He sighed as Juno shrugged, giving him a big grin. Cyrus rolled his eyes, "fine, but I'm not getting you a new one if you break it out of frustration because you don't know how technology works," he teased.
Juno gave him a fake scowl and waved him goodbye as he began to reverse out of the parking spot. Cyrus was definitely better at adapting to societal changes better than Juno, although he'd have to otherwise he wouldn't know how to use all the new surgical technology.
Allison and Lydia were both leaning against Allison's car. They watched as Juno was talking to her brother. Allison cocked her head to the side as she tried to see her brother's face, but couldn't because Juno was in the way.
"I have to ask, how did you two become, friends, again?" Allison asked, turning to Lydia.
Lydia sighed and looked over to Allison, "she sits next to me in art. She's cute, kind of quirky. And you know, beautiful people herd together," Lydia joked. "And you said on the first day of school that you wanted to focus on yourself and to focus on friends more than boyfriends, so why not create a mini... Girl squad so we can all just support each other and focus on ourselves, while also making the new girl feel welcome..."
Allison chuckled, "never expected you to be so nice to the new girl."
"I did that with you didn't I?" Lydia teased, "now shush, she's coming over here." Lydia waved at Juno as she arrived at her car. "Ready to go?"
Juno nodded, "yeah, my brother said he'd pick me up from yours."
Allison's eyes widened in shock, "how does he know where I live?" She asked uncertainly. Juno hesitated for a moment. Vampires were able to track humans by scent, and Cyrus just happened to be one of the very few who could track other Vampires, which was how he'd know Juno's location at all times. Juno began to stutter as she came up with an excuse.
"Oh, you told me your address earlier, remember?" Juno lied, trying to fake genuineness.
Lydia cocked her head to the side in thought, "I think you did, I can't be sure..." Allison had been feeling a bit odd lately, so she thought that she had perhaps just forgotten she told Juno her address.
"Y-yeah, yeah I think I remember, sorry," Allison mumbled. "Right, let's get going..."
-
Juno watched as Allison struggled to fit her key into the door lock, often missing the key hole due to her shaking hands. Allison wasn't the same ever since her mother had died. Lydia gently took the keys from Allison and unlocked the front door to Allison's home herself. Juno felt extremely uneasy as she entered the quaint apartment, there was a strong scent that filled her nostrils, making her immediately cover her mouth and nose.
Lydia looked at her with an odd look, "uhm, are you okay?" She asked. Juno's eyes looked around the room hurriedly. They landed on a vase, where a bunch of deep red wild roses were placed in. Juno shut her eyes tight to prevent them from watering. Vampires were weak in the presence of wild roses, and Juno in particular had extreme difficulty hiding her discomfort when near them.
Juno faked a sneeze, and rubbed her eyes that were now watering, "allergies," she huffed. Allison and Lydia both nodded as they quickly led Juno down the hall towards Allison's room. Allison froze when a man, presumably her father, walked out of a room at the end of a hall with a large weapon, loading bullets into it.
"Allison I'm going to-" The man cut off his words when he noticed Lydia and Juno behind Allison. "Oh, I'm sorry I can't imagine how unsettling this might look," he laughed. "Hey Lydia, and..." His eyes fell on Juno, who's eyes were watering and her mouth and nose were covered by one of her hands. Juno's vision was becoming hazy the longer she stayed in the hall. She looked at the man, and felt more dizzy at noticing the familiarity in his features.
She couldn't recall where she had seen him before, but she knew that she must have seen him when he was younger. She decided not to worry about where she knew him, after all, her and Cyrus would always find their path directed towards an Argent in their lifetime. "Do I know you?" He asked Juno.
"This is Juno, she's new. She just got allergies from the roses in the hall," Allison said.
The main raised an eyebrow. After all the things he's seen in his life, and Beacon Hills alone, meeting a girl that he had recognised that was allergic to wild roses in his home, but not any of the other flowers outside of the building, was suspicious to him.
He smiled anyway, glad that his daughter was making more friends that weren't Werewolves. "I'm Chris, Allison's dad," he greeted. He held out his hand for a handshake. Juno took her free hand and accepted the handshake. Chris showed no reaction to Juno's piercing cold skin, but he took a mental note to keep a close eye on her. "I was just going to head off to the grocery store-"
"With a gun?" Allison interrupted, staring at the shotgun he was holding.
"No, I was just cleaning it. I'll be back soon," Chris then went into another room to put away the gun, then left the apartment. Allison let out a deep sigh and quickly dragged Juno and Lydia into her bedroom.
"Right! I'll go get you some water, then we can start this assignment..."
-
Juno and Lydia found themselves struggling to breath as they laughed at one of Allison's jokes. Well, the joke itself wasn't funny, but the way she messed up the punchline caused the two to instantly crack up at her awkwardness.
"Stop making fun of me! I tried okay?" Allison said in between giggles. The three girls had completely forgotten about their English assignment once Lydia had brought up 'needing' Juno's floral dress. The two conversed about clothes non stop and the rest was history, since apart from studying, that was Juno and Lydia's strongest topic they had in common.
Allison's laughter died out as she heard a knock at the door, "I'll go get that," she breathed out, rubbing her sore rosy cheeks as she left the room. Lydia wiped a tear from her eye as she recovered from the laughter.
"You know in art you seemed like the typical shy new girl but I think you'll fit in just fine," Lydia breathed out, "I mean, you already managed to befriend Scott and Stiles, especially since Stiles can barely trust anyone."
Juno chuckled, "I wouldn't really say that we're friends, but I guess so." Allison ran back to the room, and beckoned for Juno to follow.
"Your insanely hot brother is here," Allison teased with a smirk on her face. Juno rolled her eyes as she collected her school things and left the room. Lydia became intrigued by the two words 'insanely hot' being pared together and decided to follow.
Juno's steps started to become slow as she saw Cyrus in the doorway, talking to Chris. Cyrus knew exactly who he was speaking to, since a few years ago he had worked alongside him to defeat a Japanese spirit, but the two never got along. Cyrus cut his tensed conversation with Chris short as he saw Juno, and his glare turned into a small smile.
"I was meant to come a little earlier but this one..." Cyrus pulled out a smartphone and dangled it in front of him, "needed one of these things," he teased. Cyrus tossed the phone in Juno's direction, causing Allison and Lydia to both gasp in unison. Luckily for Juno's supernatural reflexes, she caught it with no trouble. She smiled at her brother and nodded her head slightly in thanks. "Right, good to meet you Chris, but we better get going."
Juno waved Allison goodbye, and was forced into a hug from Lydia, something that took Juno by complete surprise. As the two left the apartment, Chris slammed the door shut, and they left the building.
"Thanks for the phone, but what was going on with Chris?" Juno asked.
"You really did pick the greatest people to be friends with didn't you?" Cyrus said sarcastically, "first a boy who's blood makes you want to kill him, and now a girl who is an Argent, of all people. We're lucky Chris is one of the calmer Argents, otherwise we would have been exposed right there."
Juno groaned, "look I'm sorry, but at least Lydia is normal!" She urged.
Cyrus rolled his eyes as he unlocked the car. "Right, well thanks to you having a phone now I have to have one too," Cyrus whined. He took out his mobile phone which was the same model as hers. He squinted and held the phone further away as he tried to turn it on.
After a few minutes of Juno sitting in the car, watching Cyrus try to 'swipe to unlock' his phone, he finally got it, but growled in frustration as it told him to enter more of his details. He shoved it into his pocket and started the car. "I hate those things so much..."
~
Sorry this took so long to get up! I was trying to do a bunch of research on Vampire lore... Apparently Vampires are weak to wild roses? So I decided to include that! I'll definitely be including the garlic weakness, because I feel like so many things could occur from that.
