The clear gel made the pale girl shiver as she lathered it into the skin that wasn't covered in clothing. She peeked through her curtains, smiling at the clear blue sky and the bright sun. She fully drew the curtains back, exposing herself to the sun as it's rays seeped through the glass of her window. She sighed in delight as she absorbed the vitamin D and thanked whoever invented this vampire equivalent to sunscreen. Her moment of serenity was short lived, as her 'brother' Cyrus groaned in the doorway of her bedroom.
"How many times do I have to tell you to not blind the whole neighbourhood with your skin?" He snapped. Juno looked at her skin. When in contact with sunlight, a vampire's skin will start to glow, in a way that looked as if she were made of millions of diamonds the size of a nanometer. It was when she didn't wear the clear gel that these 'diamonds' would feel like tiny stabbing pains all over her body, slowly burning her if she is exposed for too long.
Juno rolled her eyes, "maybe come up with an anti-glitter potion and you won't have to tell me," she snapped back.
"If I could, I would, you know how much I hate the fact that we glitter, it's embarrassing." His disgusted look made Juno chuckle, causing a hint of a smile to form on Cyrus' face. A rare occurrence that only Juno could cause. "Put something else on, we don't need to out ourselves on your first day of school."
Juno groaned in disgust. "You mean seven hundredth first day-"
"Actually it would probably be around five hundredth, since it took a few years for women to even attend school," Cyrus teased.
"You know what I mean!" Juno whined. "Why can't you come with me, you are meant to be my brother after all," she sulked.
Cyrus walked up to Juno, placing a hand on her shoulder for reassurance. "I am your brother, and we've gone over this five hundred times, literally," he emphasised. "I'm technically twenty four, and you're seventeen. Not to mention you're baby faced June-"
Cyrus was cut off by a harsh punch in the shoulder. Cyrus only rolled his eyes and laughed at her childish ways. Seven hundred years of being alive and Juno still acted like a seventeen year old girl. "It's just a joke! Anyway, we also need someone to get food for us, remember?" Cyrus said, taking out his hospital badge and dangling it in front of Juno's face.
She rolled her eyes and swatted his badge away from her face, "I got it," she said, sighing in defeat.
"Don't get in crazy amounts of trouble like you did back in fifty two, but don't reserve yourself, you've got an eternity to do whatever you want, use it," Cyrus urged.
"I'll make friends if you bring back some B positive," Juno said with a smirk spread across her face.
Cyrus rolled his eyes and left the room, telling Juno to hurry up and get ready as he did so. Juno replaced her shorts with jeans, and threw on a letterman jacket from a high-school in Canada that she attended in the eighties. She hoped that maybe some students at Beacon Hills High School would have a vintage eye, and like her crazy coloured jacket that made her stand out.
Juno fanned herself lightly, feeling her body heat up under all the layers. She knew she had to always be covered up so she couldn't reveal her secret, but she hated the heated feeling. 'Better than burning to death' she thought to herself, as she grabbed her pre-packed school bag and rushed down the stairs to the front door where Cyrus was waiting. "I almost thought you were going to make me walk."
"If it weren't seventy five degrees out, I would," Cyrus teased. The two left the house, Cyrus locking up while Juno got into the white Avalon. She took a few deep breaths, seven hundred- no, five hundred years of high school has definitely become monotonous, but Juno still hated the repeated pain of making new friends she'll never see again.
It was a lot for her to handle, she may be seven hundred years old, but she still had the mind of a seventeen year old most of the time. Cyrus got into the car, and started the engine. He turned to the girl who wasn't family by blood, but meant more to him than any other blood related family he ever had. "You'll be fine, June, you always do well."
Juno didn't respond, and just kept her eyes fixated on her bright pink Converse sneakers. "Just drive, please."
-
"Quite a bit has happened in this town already, so there might be a few kids who could get suspicious of you if you act a bit weird," Cyrus warned. "Did you get the lunch I packed you?"
Juno chuckled as she pulled out the two Capri Sun pouches labeled 'fruit punch', although inside was fresh, human blood. "Don't worry Cyrus, I'll be careful."
Cyrus nodded, unlocking the car doors for Juno to get out. Juno waved him goodbye as he drove away, off to his new job at Beacon Hills Hospital. She took a deep breath as she walked up through the doors of the high school. She scanned the hall, looking for wherever the principal's office would be. Fortunately for her, she didn't have to look far and immediately made her way to the office, knocking on the door politely.
"What. The hell. Is this?" The principal asked two other men, pulling out a longsword from underneath the desk. Juno stared in horror, 'I guess Cyrus was right about weird stuff going on' she thought. The principal noticed the petite blonde stand horrified in his doorway and quickly put the sword down. "Uhm yes, come in Miss," he said with uncertainty. Juno entered the office, standing at the principal's desk as he sat down, asking her what she needed.
"I'm Juno Clarke, it's my first day and I need my timetable..." She said.
The principal's eyes perked upon hearing her voice, "huh, are you British?" He asked. Juno, born and raised in England would always reply yes to this question, but after seven hundred years of travelling mostly the United States, she'd developed a sort of Mid-Atlantic accent, like Katharine Hepburn.
Juno nodded, causing a smile to form on the principal's face. "Ah, I love British accents, they're so pleasing to the ear," he sighed, searching his desk for Juno's timetable. Juno rolled her eyes at his comment as she patiently waited for her timetable. The principal finally found it, waving it in his hand as he handed it to Juno. "Here ya go love!" He chirped with an overly exaggerated English accent. Juno forced out a laugh before reading her timetable. She smiled, knowing that Cyrus had chosen the perfect electives for her, PE and art. Her other subjects were all compulsory, but of course she didn't have a problem with that, she excelled in all of the subjects she took.
"Thank you, do you mind showing me where my first class is?" Juno asked.
"I'll be escorting you to your first class once the halls empty after the bell rings so I'll be able to show you your locker. I've notified all your teachers so the students will know you're knew and welcome you." Juno nodded. Normal seventeen year old girls would dread the whole 'here's our new student, make them feel welcome!' spiel, but Juno was not a normal seventeen year old girl, and she had grown desensitized to the introductions anyway.
She nodded and sat down in one of the chairs in the office, waiting in complete silence, the only sounds coming from the principal's fingers tapping against his laptop's keyboard. The bell rang, and Juno shot up from out of her seat, not being able to stand the principal's typing.
After he had shown her the locker she would be using, he lead her to her English class, where the teacher inside was already lecturing her students. The principal knocked on the door before letting himself and Juno inside. The English teacher was at first confused, but noticed the blonde next to him, noting that she would be the new student he had informed the faculty about.
The principal left the room, leaving Juno to stand in front of the class next to the English teacher.
"Everyone, this is...?" She trailed off, waiting for Juno to finish her sentence.
"Juno Clarke," she answered.
A number of students around the room raised their eyebrows upon hearing her voice, including the teacher. "Are you British?" She asked Juno. Juno nodded. One thing she hadn't gotten used to over the years was the constant question about England. How are you supposed to tell someone about your hometown when you haven't been there since the fourteenth century? "That's great! Well, I'm Miss Blake your English teacher. Everyone, please make Juno feel welcome. You can sit over there, next to Mr Stilinski," Miss Blake instructed, pointing to the empty desk next to a pale, brunette boy who stared at Juno with his mouth hanging slightly open.
He suddenly came back down to Earth and fidgeted in his seat, closing his mouth and clearing his throat, trying to pretend that he wasn't staring at the new girl. The blonde gave Miss Blake a soft smile before walking over to the empty seat. Her steps became slower and slower the closer she got to the desk. A sweet, intoxicating scent flooded her senses, making her almost need to stop and close her eyes, but Juno knew that would be just, a tad bit odd.
She sat down in her desk, shutting her eyes tight trying to not focus on the scent, but it was impossible. It was like it just lingered near her, taunting her, begging for her to taste it. Juno slowly looked to her right and stared at the Stilinski boy. He had the side of his face rested against the palm of his hand while he leaned on the desk, completely exposing his neck.
It took a strong amount of willpower to stop Juno from inching closer to him, his neck was so enticing. She pretended to accidentally drop her pen on the floor, using it as an excuse to lean a bit closer to determine if he was the cause of this unusual behaviour. Juno was about to lean over and pick up her pen, but Stilinski had already leaned over and picked it up at lightning speed. His fast movements caused air to gently blow towards her, all of it containing the scent she can smell, but at a higher concentration.
It was Stilinski who had this strong, yet delicious scent that was no doubt his blood. It was going to send Juno into a frenzy if she didn't control herself. Her mind was fogging up, she felt dizzy at his overwhelming blood that felt like a drug to her. If only the smell was making her this weak, then imagine the taste.
The boy held the pen out to her with a cheeky smile on his face. Juno took the pen with a shaky hand, unable to thank him due to her weakened state. Juno could barely understand what the teacher was saying, she felt as if she weren't sober, high off of the scent of Stilinski's sweet, rich blood. Juno realised she couldn't be around this boy if she didn't want to expose herself; she already couldn't handle a few seconds next to him, she definitely can't handle the rest of the year of this.
Juno was so out of it, she didn't even notice the large flock of birds flying right at the windows. She didn't hear the teacher yelling at her students to get down under the desks. A pair of arms had forced her onto the ground, shielding her from the murder of crows flying in the classroom, attacking students. Juno still couldn't 'sober up', since the person who saved her from being attacked by crows was Stilinski, holding her under a desk, shielding her from being pecked and scratched. Juno felt as if she was going to pass out, it was as if she were overdosing on her own personal brand of heroin.
The crows' screeching came to a halt, and they were all dead on the ground, black feathers scattered everywhere. Stilinski helped Juno up, still holding onto her as he did.
"What the hell were you doing? You were just sitting there, you almost got attacked!" Stilinski urged. Juno wanted to hold onto him for support as she felt the dizziness grow stronger, but she knew that would worsen the problem.
Words tried to come out of her mouth, but they just came out as a low, incomprehensible mumble. "I just... I was feeling..." she tried. Stilinski felt her forehead with the back of his hand, hissing at the contact as he jerked it back.
"Jesus, you're freezing," he muttered, "that can't be normal."
Juno felt her body stiffen, already he noticed a sign of her Vampirism. She pushed him off of her, covering her nose and mouth with her hand, only slightly blocking out Stilinski's delicious scent. "Yes uhm, thank you for helping me but I guess as you said that's not normal, so I suppose I'll just go to the nurse now..." She said, her voice almost inaudible due to her covering her mouth. She picked up her bag and walked out to the hallway, trying to get as far away from the scent as she could.
Stilinski stood confused in his place. He sniffed his own clothes, wondering why the pretty new girl seemed like she was repulsed by his scent.
"I literally showered this morning!" He muttered under his breath.
-
Juno sucked on the straw of her 'Capri Sun' and instantly finished its contents in a matter of seconds. She threw the empty pouch and straw in the trash, taking a sip of water to rinse off any blood stuck on her teeth. Normally, just one serving would leave her satisfied, but her blood lust had been growing stronger all day, and the two she brought to school was not enough.
What was worse for her, was that in all of her compulsory classes, Stilinski was in, and he was deliberately sitting close to her each time. It was like he was playing some sort of game with her, and it made her hungrier.
He was even on the lacrosse team, which meant when she had PE, he would be out on the field also. Of course, their classes weren't joined, but even from across the field with the blowing wind, she could smell him.
Juno sighed and sat down on the linoleum floor, leaning against the bricked wall of the hallway. She had no one to sit with in the cafeteria, not to mention she needed a break from Stilinski. Juno had barely even spoken to the boy and she already had some sort of hatred for him, she hated the fact that his blood was making her weak, unable to control her hunger. She hated the fact that he continued to tease her, sitting behind her in class where she could feel his eyes burning into the back of her skull.
The bell rang, signalling the end of lunch break and the beginning of her final class. Juno pulled out her timetable and memorised the room number for her next class.
She sat down at the back, where no one could sit behind her, and where she could definitely see where Stilinski would sit. Surely enough, she saw him walk into the classroom with who Juno assumed to be his friend. There was a fan at the front of the room due to the heat, and Stilinski just so happened to walk in front of it, causing the wind that carried his scent right towards Juno. She shut her eyes, and began digging her fingernails into the desk.
And of course, Stilinski chose to not sit in front of her, but sit in the desk right next to her. His friend sat in front of him, looking at Stilinski oddly as he stared at Juno. The two boys both exchanged an odd look before staring at the blonde as she kept her eyes closed, holding onto the edges of the desk for dear life.
Juno felt Stilinski's scent dwindle, and another, unpleasant one grew stronger. Her eyes opened once she recognised the scent. 'Dog' she thought. Juno felt herself calm down. She relaxed in her seat, taking her hands off the edge of the desk. There was a Werewolf close by, and although she wasn't particularly fond of them, she wished she could praise and thank whoever it was for drowning out the scent of Stilinski.
She noticed the two boys staring at her, making her shift in her seat uncomfortably. "What are you doing?" She asked. The two boys quickly focused their attention to the front of the classroom, pretending that they weren't staring at her. "You can't just stare at me then pretend you didn't when I catch you," she sighed.
Stilinski looked over to her, "you know if I smelt bad you could have just said," he joked. He pulled out a can of deoderant and showed Juno, "guessing it worked, didn't it?"
Juno nodded, although he was entirely incorrect. No amount of body spray could drown out the smell of blood to her. Stilinski held out his hand and smiled at her, "well I guess now we're all in the clear, I figured I should introduce myself after saving you from getting pecked to death by those crows. I'm Stiles Stilinski."
Juno shook his hand, raising an eyebrow at him. "Your name is Stiles?" She asked, never hearing of that name before.
"Oh well you don't exactly have the most ordinary name either miss Roman goddess of marriage," Stiles teased. He began to pat his friend in front of him on the back, making him turn around and give Juno a small wave. "This is my buddy Scott McCall."
"Hi," Scott greeted awkwardly. Juno felt just as awkward as Scott, why this Stiles boy was so keen on making her feel welcome was beyond her. Maybe he's sort of expecting a favour after helping her in English, and not to mention she did visibly show discomfort and made him think that he stank.
"I guess you two take the whole 'make your new student feel welcome' spiel quite literally?" Juno asked.
Stiles shrugged, "only when they make an interesting first impression," he said. "By the way I'm actually like, extremely attracted to your accent-"
"Stiles, chill man," Scott muttered, trying to hold back a laugh.
Stiles leaned back in his chair, ridding the desperation off his face and relaxed his shoulders, trying to act calm and collected. "Ah y-you know, I mean it's just a nice accent is all," he said, as if it were no big deal. The complete opposite to the tone he was using before. Stiles kept rocking in his chair, giving Juno major anxiety for him.
"Well I'm originally from London, but I've been travelling a lot and I guess a few words come out differently than your average British accent," Juno replied, carefully watching Stile's chair as he kept leaning further back on the two hind legs of it.
"You sound like you're from the fourties or something!" Scott enthused. He looked over to Stiles who was still keeping up his 'cool kid' act. He leaned further back in his chair, but began to lose balance. Juno watched as he flailed his arms about, trying to bring the chair forward.
At lightning speed, Juno grabbed the back of his chair and pushed him back forward, back to how the chair should be sat on. "Be careful, Stilinski," she sighed.
Stiles stared at her, a hand over his chest as he panted. "I think my life just flashed before my eyes... Thanks for that Juney-"
"Don't call me Juney," she snapped. "And you're welcome, I guess we're even now."
Stiles smirked, "I guess so."
-
Scott and Stiles both walked with Juno out to the front of the school, talking about sports.
"That's so crazy, you've done gymnastics, baseball, volleyball, soccer and freaking lacrosse? How do you have time for all of that?" Stiles asked in disbelief.
Juno shrugged, "I've just been to a lot of schools who offer lots of sports I guess..."
"What other schools have you been to?" Scott asked.
"Well, I've been to school in Australia-"
Stiles' jaw dropped, "Jesus is your family like, super rich or something?"
"I live with my brother, he's a surgeon." Juno answered. Stiles kept asking more questions about Juno and her 'luxurious life of travel' as he described it. Juno was fine answering them, until Scott McCall bid them both farewell.
The further he was, the stronger Stiles' scent became. Juno rapidly looked around the parking lot, desperately hoping that Cyrus would come any second now. Stiles kept rambling and raving, although Juno couldn't comprehend what he was saying. Her head was throbbing, she suddenly felt as if she hadn't eaten in a decade even though she was fine a moment ago. She connected the dots, Scott McCall was the Werewolf that drowned out Stiles' scent.
It was a shame, because although Stiles would ask many questions, she was coming to like him when she wasn't busy trying not to bite him. Scott too, was a decent guy, but she couldn't be around Stiles without Scott there.
"Hey, Juno?" Stiles asked, waving a hand in front of her face. Juno looked up at him, digging her nails into the palm of her hands to try and stay calm.
"Sorry, I was just off with the fairies. What did you say?" She asked.
Stiles sighed, pointing over to his blue four wheeled drive, a Jeep as Juno noted. "I just was wondering if you had a ride home, because I mean if you did you'd probably be gone by now." Stiles said in a slightly shakey voice. "Like you know if you didn't, then uh maybe I could like... Or I mean if you don't want to that's cool but like-"
Juno finally spotted Cyrus pull up into a parking spot, and suddenly Juno felt relieved. "I appreciate it... b-but my brother just arrived..." she stuttered, she was barely able to speak around this boy.
Stiles nodded and scratched the back of his head, trying to play it cool again. "O-oh yeah, that's great, cool. See you tomorrow." Stiles then walked towards his Jeep, waving Juno goodbye as he did. Juno almost sprinted over to Cyrus' car. She quickly dumped her bag in the boot, then slumped down in the front passenger's seat.
Cyrus looked over at Juno with a sly smirk on his face. "You seem flustered, June," he teased. "Have you met someone special?"
Juno ran her fingers through her curly blonde hair and groaned. "Cyrus I am not flustered, I'm starving," she growled. Cyrus raised an eyebrow as he studied his sister. His dark brown eyes began to glow golden as he looked at her, trying to figure out what was making her act so odd.
"Juno, if you need you can take a few days off," Cyrus offered. "I know what you're going through, I can help you make it less daunting of an experience if you like."
Juno smacked Cyrus' shoulder as he began to pull out of the parking lot. "How many times have I told you no mind reading?" She spat.
Cyrus shrugged, "probably about seven hundred," he teased. "I'm serious though, if you feel like you can't control yourself then you'll need to take a few days off at least. I'll teach you."
Juno huffed as she folded her arms, sulking and staring straight ahead at the road, considering Cyrus' offer. "His best friend is a Werewolf, Cyrus," she muttered. Cyrus looked at her wide eyed, he hated Werewolves. "I talked to them both, and I can't smell his blood because all I can smell is wet dog. As long as they're both together when I speak to him it's fine."
Cyrus shook his head, "I wouldn't take that risk. One: because the human boy would want to talk to you without the wolf around. Two: the wolf might listen for your heart beat, and if he tries he won't be able to hear anything, thus exposing who you are."
"I doubt that he would need to listen to my heartbeat, but I agree with you on number one," Juno sighed. "I'll take you up on the teachings, I'm surprised you've never mentioned something like this before..."
"I guess it's just such a rarity, and you tend to not get that close with people anyway so I assumed you wouldn't experience it." Cyrus pulled into their driveway. He looked over at Juno who still had her arms folded, staring straight ahead. He knew that Juno's least favourite feeling was feeling weak, and there was a boy whom she hardly knew who was doing just that to her. She always distanced herself for all her years of immortality, afraid to find true love, but have to leave them to start a new life under a new name.
Cyrus unbuckled his seat belt, looking at Juno, waiting for her to get out. He sighed, shaking his head at her behaviour. "If it makes you feel any better, I managed to snatch some B positive."
Juno grinned, jumping out of the car and running to the front door. Her speed caused the flowers in the garden to blow from the fast wind she caused. Cyrus chuckled and shook his head. He couldn't believe how easy it was to please her when she was down.
She was the most childish vampire he had ever met, despite being seven hundred years old.
