Hurricane - Percico
I know I have already written a Hurricane by Truslow but I just had to make a Percico one! I read a cute comment on tumblr and just had to make it a reality and Hurricane just fitted right in.
Nico woke up in the middle of the night. The rain was pounding on the roof and made a soothing noise against the cabin window.
He stretched and accidentally hit the sleeping boy beside him. He looked over to make sure that he didn't wake up his boyfriend, but no harm done. After all Percy was a heavy sleeper, a heavy sleeper that loved to drape his body over Nico's when they slept together in Percy's small bed. Nico was burning up!
Nico quietly made his way out of the bed and went to the door. He knew the harpies would skin him alive and eat him if they found him but he just couldn't stay inside any longer. He opened the door and sat down on the first step. He could run inside at the first sign of danger. Or when he got too tired of getting wet.
The rain pounded its way into his skin. It chilled his bones, he was usually cold, cold like death, but lately he had found himself being really warm. It was as if spending time with the son of Poseidon warmed him up. As if the son of Poseidon was thawing his heart of all that ice that he had laced himself with. Ice that had protected his fragile heart for so long.
He wasn't used to be able to rely on other people. It had always been only him, in the labyrinth, in Tartarus. And even though Reyna and Coach Hedge had come along it had been him who did all the shadow traveling. And it had been so lonely, just sleeping, eating, drawing his own power. After Reyna started lending him energy it felt a little better.
It felt like a piece of his old self came back. The happy kid he had been when Bianca was still alive. He could still stumble upon memories or habits that he had had that were now reappearing. Hazel had brought some, like little inside jokes he had shared with Bianca, Reyna had brought others. Leo too, Piper too, even that marshmallow Jason.
And now Percy.
Always Percy.
He had been in love with that dweeb for so long that it felt wrong when he was to far away from him. He knew that Bianca dying wasn't Percy's fault. No one had caused her death but herself, but as a kid he had been willing to blame anyone and anything. He had just been so heartbroken.
As heartbroken as he had become when he saw Percy and Annabeth together.
The rain didn't slow down for a minute and in the distance he heard thunder. Not the one caused when Zeus was displeased with some poor demigod, but actual thunder. It sounded far away but he knew that it soon would be right over the camp. It wasn't often it rained here, and not this heavily. But once in a while Mr. D let it happen. Nico adored it. The sunny camp turning dark and muddy. The demigods hiding away in their cabins or in the Big House. Nico and a few others used to sit outside and enjoy the rain that washed their faces and bodies clean. Now, in the middle of the night, he was the only one up. The rain washed away everything anyway, it was a natural phenomenon, it wouldn't stop raining just because nobody was outside to embrace it.
He heard soft footsteps coming his way. He was just glad that the harpies hadn't smelled him out yet, they usually started screaming and flapped their hideous wings. The footsteps belonged to someone else, someone who sat down on the threshold, making Nico sit between the persons legs as the said person wrapped their strong arms around his neck pulling him to the person's body.
"It's raining." Percy said sleepy, he sounded a little husky from the sleep that he had awaken from.
"You don't say?" Nico retorted sarcastically. "I thought it was the sun shining down on me, melting me to a puddle."
"My little Nico is getting all wet." Percy pouted, Nico couldn't see the actual pout but he heard it, and it sounded so adorable.
Percy did some of his water magic that let Nico slowly get dryer. Together they sat there, outside of Percy's cabin with a magical water shield around them so that they couldn't get wet. It was really cool to date Percy sometimes.
"Why are you out here?" Percy asked and yawned.
"It was hot in there." Nico replied and leaned his head against Percy's chest.
"I know, I'm really hot sorry." Percy chuckled a little and leaned his chin on the top of Nico's head. "Wasn't the rain bothering you?"
"No, I like it. It washes everything away."
"You sound so depressing when you say that."
"Well I am a son of Hades." Nico pointed out, "But I promise I'm not depressed. Or at least not what I know off. Who knows with us demigods, always being so close to death has to make us a little insane."
"At least you get to live in a castle with your father when you die, who knows where I end up." Percy said and yawned again.
"In my room of course." Nico raised his hand to let the rain drops fall on his hand but quickly learned that Percy's bubble really was too good to be true.
He nudged Percy's knee and just a second later he felt the cool drops fall on his palm. He didn't mind getting wet, he didn't mind getting his black hair plastered to his pale face, or that his black shirt stuck to his scrawny chest. Nico had never minded water. And not only because of Percy, it just had always been that way. Nico liked to believe that it had something to do with his mother.
His mother that had died by the hand of Zeus, he couldn't remember her and it broke his heart. He had went looking for Bianca when she died but he hadn't tried the same with his mother. Maybe because he knew it wouldn't work, after all his mother had been dead a long time when he finally realized his powers. There were so many things he wanted to ask her that he never would be able too. And even though Nico wasn't scared of his father anymore it still didn't feel right to ask the all mighty Hades about his mother.
And he couldn't even go to Hazel. They were siblings and no different from him and Bianca, but they didn't have the same mother. They hadn't shared a childhood.
"Penny for your thoughts." Percy said wishfully after a long silence.
"Hand me a drachma and I might tell you." Nico joked.
"Since when is my boyfriend such a gold digger?"
"Well you offered." Nico shrugged, he reached for one of Percy's hands that hung against his chest like some kind of weird necklace. Percy's arms were strong and warm against his neck, Percy's wrist stabbed his throat a little when he moved but Nico didn't mind.
As Nico played with Percy's hand he thought about how the two of them got together.
Annabeth had decided to go home and try to build a relationship with her father, at the same time her cousin was found missing. She didn't come back for a long time and Percy was really worried. Jason and Piper were on a crazy adventure across the world trying to build shrines for all the minor gods, Frank and Hazel were in New Rome with Reyna, Leo was working in the bunker with his siblings. Everyone was off doing something else.
It was always just Percy and Nico who was together at camp. After the war with Gaea had ended things weren't the same. Sure Percy held some lessons on sword fighting, and taught a couple of classes of Monster fighting 101. He talked to Chiron daily but Nico knew he was bored and worried.
Nico was remodeling cabin 13 and helped out in the infirmary. He and Will were good friends and even though they had flirted it had never been more than that.
When Percy got the Iris message from Annabeth that they were breaking up he didn't leave his cabin for days, he hardly ate. Nico took it into his own hands to get him food and made sure that he was alive in that damned cabin. Will helped him too, he sat in there and tried to tell jokes to cheer Percy up.
Travis and Connor joined them, and Grover and Juniper, and soon even Clarisse. All of them came and went, making sure he ate, making sure he showered and cleaned the cabin. Making sure he was alive and laughing and talking.
Slowly but surely he started going outside. Clarisse took him sword fighting, the Stolls took him to lunch and dinner and made sure to prank people just to get him to laugh. Will made sure he was healthy but other than that he didn't do much, said that there wasn't anything he could do to help the son of Poseidon. Grover and Juniper took him on walks in the forest, made sure that Percy saw Mrs. O'Leary, and got him to teach some classes again.
And Nico... well he made sure that Percy slept, that he had the energy to do all of those things again. Lending a hand to Percy wasn't something that was hard for Nico, after all Percy had saved him a lot of times, it was time for some payback. So during the nights Percy couldn't sleep they played Mythomagic and soon Percy was as good as Nico. They played normal card games, the Stolls sneaked in some board games too. But Nico and Percy quickly discovered that the night passed the fastest when they talked. So that was what they had done.
Talking turned to trusting, trusting turned to laughing, laughing turned to kisses, kisses turned to love. When they told their friends that they were dating no one was surprised.
"Do you remember when I could beat you in Mythomagic?" Percy asked as if he had read Nico's thoughts.
"You slayed both me and Frank." He laughed.
"Good times. It has been a while since we played." He once again shielded Nico's hand that had turned cold, the same temperature as death.
"We can play anytime Perce."
"Why don't we go back to bed?" he asked.
"Will you let me stand in the rain for a few more minutes? I just love the rain; it helps me think." Nico asked letting go of his boyfriend's hand.
"Sure, don't be out to long, you'll catch a cold."
"I'm always cold Perce." Nico smiled and stood up turning around to face his gorgeous boyfriend.
"Mm, it's a good thing that the cold doesn't bother me." he grinned and laid a warm hand on Nico's cheek, he pulled him closer and planted a soft kiss on Nico's lips.
The thunder rumbled over their heads.
"Come in soon." Percy urged and disappeared inside.
Nico who was once again drenched in seconds nodded. The rain made his aching limbs relax, it made all the worry seep out of him. The rain made everything better, his breathing easier. He wanted the feeling to last forever but he knew he should return to bed.
The thunder rumbled again followed but a small rumble in the ground. Nico felt his father presence. It had been a long time since the two of them spoke to each other. The last time had been at that skull cloister, were Hades told him that he wanted Nico to be happy. That was three years ago.
Nico faced his father who lurked by the corner of the cabin. Hades almost disappeared in the rain and the shadows of the night. But Nico saw him, he always did, whether he wanted to or not.
In many ways the two of them were alike, but Nico prized himself for being more like his mother. His mother that he hadn't really gotten to know. He wished he had asked Bianca more when she was still alive. All Nico remembered was that his mother had had the same dark hair as he had.
"You're happy." His father said.
"Yes. Shouldn't I be?"
"You are the only one who can answer that my boy." Hades sighed. "I just wish that it would have been easier for you. I meant what I said at the cloister, I want you to be the exception."
"I want that to father."
"He is nice to you? That Jackson boy."
"Of course, otherwise he would be roaming the underworld." Nico said jokingly, it was in vain since Hades never understood his jokes.
"Did you mean it?"
"Mean what father?"
"That he would share a room with you in the castle if he died."
"Yes." Nico breathed the words out to quickly. "There are things called a soulmate. I don't know if there is for you gods but it exists for the humans. And I am half of that. When you meet our soulmate you know it. Percy is mine. He will either share my room, or he can go to Elysium or choose rebirth. It is his death but I would very much appreciate it if he shared it with me."
"Persephone would throw a tantrum." Hades knitted his eyebrows and sighed again.
"I thought my stepmother was rather found of Jackson."
"She is, that is why she would throw a tantrum if he wished something else then to spend death with you."
"I almost feel loved by her when she does things like that." Nico said mockingly.
"Much like you don't understand my wife, I don't understand that boy in there. I just choose to trust you Nico. You are my son and I hope that you follow your gut the way your mother did." Hades said, his words as big as he was a god.
"Would you tell me about her?" Nico asked.
"Your mother?"
"Yes. Not now." He said and raised his hands to make Hades aware of the rain. "But some other day."
"If that's your wish."
"Goodbye father." Nico bowed his head and walked into the cabin.
Percy was quick to hug him dry and then pulled him into the bed. The bed that was as warm as Percy, and smelled like him too. Nico placed his head on Percy's chest that fell and raised, here he could hear Percy's heartbeat, that alone could make Nico fall asleep in the blink of an eye. Percy planted a soft kiss to his forehead and wished him goodnight before falling asleep in a matter of seconds.
Nico was truly happy, whether his father believed him or not. Percy was all he ever wanted, Percy was the one to thaw his heart, the one to break the walls around his mind. Percy was his savior in the same way that Nico had saved Percy.
Maybe it wasn't official among the fates but Nico knew them to be soulmates.
