Closer - Leico
Okay I promise, the next one shot won't be a Leico, or... I mean it will have some Leicco in it :)
I have become obsessed with Closer by The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey. I have no idea why but I just adore it!
So here goes :)
Nico drove the rusty pick up truck to their secret place, the desert around them was a never ending wasteland. But wasteland was to depressing, the desert may be deserted but it still had it's charms. Cactuses that grew and the flowers that bloomed on them, the birds that soared the vast blue sky, the lizards laying lazily on warm stones.
Leo had his window down, his hand was feeling the wind that rushed towards it, Nico was driving way faster than he was allowed to. The lack of police was probably the case. That or just the fact that Nico was a bit reckless.
Leo stuck his hand back in the car when Nico drove into a hole on the road. The car whined and puttered a little but kept going.
"You should leave the car with my dad," Leo said simply flipping through radio stations.
"Baby is doing alright, and I can't afford to fix her up." Nico said defensively taking his eyes off the road to glare at Leo.
"I can say I found it in the yard."
Nico hadn't come home the past five years. He had gone to the big city to study and then just stayed. He enjoyed the fast life, the people, the energy. Life felt like it was pulsing when he was in his city apartment. The only thing exciting in this dump was the yard.
The yard was the nice nickname the town had given the garbage dump. You could find anything there, everything from fridges from 1940, to car tires that could still be used, to baby strollers that had been remade into art. During the weekends on Nico's senior year of High School he and his friends had lived on that garbage dump trying to find cool things. They had competition, the most disgusting thing, the most creative, and the thing that actually worked.
Nico never won but he enjoyed looking through the yard, finding things, laughing with his friends.
"Don't sweat it, I'm only staying this weekend, then I'm back to New York." Nico said waving his hand to let Leo know he should leave the subject.
"Why? I thought you were moving back?"
"As if," Nico scoffed, "there is seriously nothing to do here, I rather have me and my broken down car in the big city then wasting away out here."
"So why even bothering taking me to the sky?"
"Because you nagged my ear off for not having called you for four years. I will give you this as a gift." Nico explained.
"Thanks." Leo said sarcastically.
"Why you so grumpy?"
Leo shrugged and stuck out his hand again, feeling the air move around it, he looked out the window watching as the desert continued all the way to the horizon. Lazy lizards, big birds, Leo yawned.
"What, you rather we went on some stupid movie night with your friends?"
"I honestly can't remember why you hate Piper and Jason."
"Jason is okay, it's Piper the way she keeps telling me that it's okay to be gay? Drives me crazy, especially when she uses her pity eyes, god I want to snap her neck." Nico growled.
"Calm down Ghost King." Leo laughed knowing that Nico would never hurt anyone.
Nico steered onto a small road, if you didn't know it was there you would have missed it. If someone saw you from the main road they would think you were crazy driving around in the desert.
It had been Percy who had found the place originally, he had been on his swim trip with his teammates. Their coach had said that a week in the desert would make them crave water like fishes. The teammates dared Percy to do some reckless shit and somehow he had found a haven. First he only let Annabeth see it, then he brought the rest of his friends.
When he and his friends left for university no one was left to look out for the haven. Only Nico knew where it was thanks to his sister.
The first time he had laid eyes on Leo he knew he had to take him to the Haven. It was something about that charming grin, those dark locks, and mischievous eyes that burned like fire. Nico had struck up conversation in that typical bad boy way, Leo had just laughed at him and grounded him.
The two of them were like magnets, it was destiny that they would get together. So after a month of talking and having fun Nico took Leo to the haven. The haven that Leo renamed to the Sky.
It became their secret place, no one else knew of it but them and some people who didn't even live close enough to it.
"How is school treating you?" Nico asked.
"Dropped out, I'm working with my dad now, I could give you a quick fix that you won't have to pay for." Leo stated and yawned again, it was in the afternoon but the poor bastard had woken up bright and early to help his mother deliver a baby cow. "You?"
"Dropped out, I'm practicing to become a tattoo artist now." Nico grinned as he pulled into a halt.
"Why?"
"I fell in love with when I had my own made."
"Hold on! My High School sweet heart has a tattoo?" Leo screamed as he climbed out of the rusty old truck.
"And a couple of piercings." Nico shrugged as he climbed up on the bed of the truck.
"Wait you have a mattress?" Leo asked as he joined him.
"I stole it from Reyna, she was moving and hated this because it was to hard. I was all you can't do that, and she said watch me. Long story short, it's my mattress now." Nico opened a small chest he had at the head of the bed, he pulled up blankets and pillows.
"You are way to prepared for this."
"This and the yard are the best things with this godforsaken city, of course I'm prepared." Nico laughed laying down.
Leo who sat crossed legged looked a little uncomfortable but soon laid down next to Nico, looking up at the sky, afternoon was turning into evening, "you still remember the stars?"
"What you don't?"
"I never could." Leo confessed.
"You're twenty three, learn the constellations man," Nico laughed again flashing the piercing in his tongue.
"So a tongue piercing, one in the eyebrow, anywhere else?" Leo asked.
"My nipple," Nico answered boldly.
"Bull."
"No, it's true look," Nico pulled up his black t-shirt that was way to warm in the heat, he was still as skinny and scrawny as he was the last time Leo had seen him, although he had started getting muscles and a hint of a six pack could be seen on his flat stomach.
"That's disgusting," Leo hollered as he pulled down Nico's shirt.
"You haven't done anything to inhabit your body more?"
"I have always felt like my skin belonged to me, so no, I haven't." Leo said sighing. "Piper did a tattoo, an eagle on her arm, looks horrible but she loves it."
"That's cheesy."
"What do you have?"
"You'll see once the stars come out." Nico winked.
Leo had accidentally fallen asleep in the heat, he woke up with a dry mouth and welcomed by the stars.
Nico who must have noticed that he was finally awake started pointing out the stars. One after another like a clock work. You could think that he would get tired of it but he never got. In New York he couldn't see the stars, those damn lights were always on, once or twice he had went on a small road trip just to breathe fresh air and see the familiar constellations again. During those moments he had always thought of Leo, imagining him sitting in his window, looking at the same stars as him.
Now the two of them were together again, the stars above them.
Nico sat up and took of his shirt, showing his back to Leo. On his shoulder blades were wings, black shimmering wings with constellations hidden in them. They were beautiful, Leo reached out and touched Nico's warm skin, tracing the constellations that Nico just had pointed out on the sky.
"It's amazing." Leo breathed out.
"You know why I took you out here?"
"To remind me that I suck at astronomy?" Leo joked as he once again pulled down Nico's shirt.
"I never stopped loving you, I stopped talking to you because it became to hard. I want to follow my dreams, I want to be a tattoo artist, I want to live in New York, I want to see the stars..." Nico's voice hitched, he turned around so that he could look at Leo. "This is going to sound so cheesy, but I thought that if I stopped talking to you maybe I would fall out of love. It would be easier to stay where I had to be."
"It wasn't though right? It sucked?"
"Amen to that." Nico smiled, he laid a hand on Leo's cheek. "I'm not getting younger, every day I get closer to my dream but further away from you and I don't know if that's the way I want to live."
"You can't just leave your dream for me!" Leo protested.
"I'm not... I'm asking if you can come with me. I have an apartment, there are so many job offers, there's a school close by." Nico said, "please?"
"I can't leave my dream..." Leo said hesitantly. "I love being here, this is where I belong. I love working with my dad, I love looking through the yard for hidden treasures, I love coming out here to remember you and all the good times. I can't leave this place Nico. You can't ask me that."
"That's okay," Nico smiled, "give me tonight?"
Leo kissed him fiercely, giving Nico everything that he couldn't through that kiss. They took of their clothes, they huddled closer, they pressed against each other trying to get closer still, they bit, sucked, did everything that they wouldn't be able to do later.
And even though they tried to savor it, the evening turned to night, turned to morning. The stars had come ad gone over their heads, the stars had been splayed out under Leo's hands, Nico's piercings had been so cold but neither of them had cared.
They had to say goodbye, damn the consequences, damn the world.
And that is how Leo gave Nico the night, the stars, the moon, and that is how they said goodbye. Nico dropped him off, went home to get some sleep before going back to the big city. They promised each other to talk, skype, write. They said they would visit each other.
Both of them knew the words were hollow, this was the last time and it broke them more then they wanted to admit. Maybe... maybe someday in the future they would somehow clash together again. Destiny was a crazy bitch, and somehow she had been able to get them to meet once before, why couldn't she make it happen one more time?
